Sooooooooo Good 12/10/2010

My grandmother was Jamaican and made the best curry goat ever! I've had such a difficult time finding ""authentic"" tasting Jamaican food. A co-worker suggested this restaurant yesterday. I read the reviews and decided to try it. I've got to say it is INCREDIBLE! The food is so good, the portions are a very good size and the service is just wonderful. The lady who assisted me was GREAT. I placed a phone order and it was hot and ready when I arrived. I will be going back again, again and AGAIN. You've got to try it! more

Delicious and authentic 4/15/2010

This place is one of North Raleigh's best kept secrets... The food is wonderful and the prices very low for the portions (which are quite generous). I have been to Jamaica several times and enjoy Caribbean cuisine. Whenever I eat food from this restaurant it brings back fond memories of my favorite Island!!! Pros: Truly excellent food and a great value more

Best Jamaican food in Raleigh 8/10/2008

My husband is of Jamaican descent and when we moved to Raleigh, we despaired of ever finding something that was even close for him to enjoy. How lucky we were to find the Jamaica Marketplace! To surprise him one night, I ordered food to go from their restaurant and will do so again and again. The beef patties were hot and spicy, very delicious. I got hubby curry goat (a favorite of his) and he raved about how good it was. The portions on a large lasted him TWO DAYS! He has a healthy appetite and they really fill those to-go containers. The plantain was delicious and the cabbage is great. They also have desserts he is familiar with, like bean pie and coco bread. We will definitely be back. Also found a great jar of curry powder at a very fair price. I recommend this place to anyone who enjoys Jamaican food. You won't regret it. Pros: Great food, interesting atmosphere, wonderful customer service Cons: Some of the food may be too hot for those with a timid tongue. more

Excellent West Indian Food 4/20/2008

Several years ago I visited this establishment and enjoyed the food. Due to a change in scheduling, etc. I forgot it was there and rediscovered it by accident (drove by) this week. \r I have a West Indian mother that hails from Antigua so I know how the food is supposed to taste. I don't know what the one negative reviewer was talking about. The food was excellent. \r I had the oxtail dinner which includes cabbage, peas-n-rice and plantain. I also purchased beef, chicken and vegetable patties. Everything was up to standard. \r There were only two disappointments. (1) The sauce for the oxtails was a little hotter (spicier) than I usually eat my food. I managed to get through it with the assistance of several cold drinks because it tasted so good! The other disappointment was that I ordered my food to go and when I got home, I realized there was no plantain in my dinner. :-( By then they were closed. I recommend checking your to go boxes before leaving to ensure nothing was left out. \r The plus was that I ordered a small dinner. The small is HUGE. I made two meals out of that one small dinner which is nothing to sneeze at since I have a healthy appetite.\r This restaurant is a well kept secret. Although several people came and went during my visit(s), I would think the small establishment would be filled to overflow if more people knew about it. Now that I have found it again, I plan to stop by regularly.\r My one suggestion is that they provide a milder recipe for some of their dishes (like their j_rk chicken / chicken wings & sauces) for those of us who like spice but can't take ""HOT"". :-)\r If you are rushing, this is not the place to stop. It may take a while (15-20 minutes) to get your food but it will be well worth it when it comes out of the kitchen. Pros: Large portions, Tasty food Cons: Food was spicier than I prefer, Wait time for food, My order was missing an item more

Best jamaican food ever 2/21/2008

I've never had Jamaican food that taste as good as the food at Jamaica Marketplace. The food is great, the meals are affordable and they fill up the tray for you. My favorite was the oxtails which are so delicious, I actually would like to have some right about now. Everytime I go in the store they have such good music playin. I always be wanting to dance. They even have carribean foods that you can buy there yourself that you cant find anywhere else. I love Jamaica marketplace and I'd rate there restaurant a 12. Big ups to the chef and to the Manager for doing such a great job with the restaurant and having such good customer service and great food. I'm always satisfied. Oh and I Iove that paul Michael raeggae CD I bought from you. The songs on there are Hot. Pros: Parking, Great Customer Service, Food is the best, Affordable, Big ups to the Chef and Great Manager more

Dissapointing Attempt at Jamaican Food 1/7/2007

I am new to the area. My husband and I read about the marketplace online. First of all, it's not much of a marketplace. Just a few dusty cds and overpriced Bob Marley candles. We ordered oxtail and jerkchicken. Neither dish were very good. The sauces tasted like they came out of a jar. There was a long wait for the food. The cashier had the nerve to request that we pay 25 cents for a cup of ice after we spend $30.00 on lunch. We will continue to search for a good Jamaican restaurant in the area. more

A Secret that needs to be told 1/31/2006

I have been on a search for good beef patty and happened upon Jamaica Marketplace. Not only do they have the BEST beef patties in all of North Carolina they have good, heathly, tasy everything (curry chicken, cabbage, curry goat) at prices that can't be beat. And there is nothing ""mini"" about their ""mini-lunch"" It's not fancy, but its the best food around. Just try it once, you'll be back... AND you will tell everyone you know. Pros: Inexpensive, Excellent Food, Authentic Cons: Limited seating, Closes Early more

Great, Great, Great! I am an American from NY and this store is long overdo in the Raleigh area. Really nice ladies! The owners mom is a gem! Both are knowledgeble about the products that they sell and always have time for a caring word. Will even call you if they are out of something & let you know when they have it in stock. Patties are delicious, though better if already heated (they are working on correcting this). Wish they had longer hours. When I want a pattie and cocco bread for a late snack, store is already closed. Lastly, great source of information for cultural events in the area. I have attended (2) shows that I would not have known about if they had not put fliers up. Keep up the work!!!! And thanks! Pros: great location, variety, reggae Cons: needs longer hours more
