I've eaten my way through the south, and while no BBQ jernt up here compares to Dixie's best (just like you can't get good chowda outside of New England), Jake's is one of three places (the other two being the Blue Ribbon in Newton and Uncle Pete's in Eastie) that comes damn close. Tasty tender ribs, great sides, wide variety, and the best desserts of any BBQ place in town. Friendly service, good prices, and a no-BS dining room. Pros: Great food, friendly service, value more

Great Ribs, no waiting 6/5/2003

Jake's is one of those places you dream about. The decor is minimal, the help is friendly and the ribs are wonderfully flavored and smoky. It is a REAL joint. No manufactured atmosphere here. Pros: great ribs, inexpensive, convenient Cons: more sides needed more
