how hard is it to get deep fried right? 7/20/2011

went to the market with my sons, we stopped at Jack's Fish Spot, ordered 2 large fish and chips then sat down at counter, my 13 year old noted the MAGGOTS SQUIRMING ON FLOOR--that alone, pretty damn sick !! while waiting for our 20 bucks worth of fish and chips (2 "large" orders) an older gentleman working there questioned why we were sitting there at counter after ordering, (uh.......WAITING...) was very polite to this fella though felt he was a complete jackass, sadly my impression of this guy was confirmed when he supplied to us ONE, grotesque overly drenched in oil "fish" an chips, told him very politely we ordered 2 large fish and chips, he glared at me then said he wanted to see receipt, no problem, handed over to him the proof of our purchase , he stared at it and muttered "weird......" then reluctantly delivered our other order of fish and chips, we were extremely courteous, bussed our own counter of course, can understand people being short with customers during lunch rush, have worked food service 15+ years, yet this was nasty jerkass behavior, that accompanied w/ maggots beneath lunch counter, trash and unsanitary conditions on actually counter tops which i cleaned before and after, the food served drenched in oil, pathetic, tiny 5 nugget 'large" fish and chips, obviously taking great advantage of the large tourist trade in the Market. more

A fishy tradition 5/9/2006

Whenever we need (ok, want) dungeness crab, we come to Jack's. You can't get much fresher than scooping the little doomed crustaceans out of the tank and tossing them into the boiler. (Sorry guys, but you taste SO good!) They also have a great little lunch counter where you can get the usual fried stuff & fries - fish and chips, clams and chips, etc. There are a couple little tables nearby and of course there's the counter where you can eat. Their prices on crab and fish may not be the best, but the service is excellent and it's always an enjoyable shopping experience. more

Lots of Seafood 3/17/2006

It's just across the street from the main marketplace, so the seafood is a little less expensive here. Most of the time, the selection is good, although they don't have the variety and exotic displays that you find inside the market. If you want the basic seafood, it's worth crossing the street to get a better price. The crab and shrimp cocktails that are sold here are also fun to munch on. Also a good place if you want live crab. more

Good choice for fish and chips 12/13/2005

Jack's is a good spot to pick up some fish and chips or chowder if you're downtown. The service is quick and the food delicious and reasonably priced, The service can be a little surly at times but this is all in a good-natured sense. There isn't much in the way of seating; only some kind of cramped counter spots. Still, it's a good choice for a quick bite to eat while you watch the goings on of Pike Place Market. more
