Took Mazda Millenia in for smog & stalling problem. "My good tech guy is out for the week, come back next Monday." I take the car back & even though he had earlier suggested that O2 sensors or injectors were the problem, he did not check either. Told me the stupidest line imaginable, " The internal knock sound is causing the car to stall, it's an internal problem." more

I ALWAYS bring my vehicle in to J&S and they do great work at affordable prices. I had them rebuild my transmission that went out. About a year later it started to leak transmission fluid. David and his staff (honored the warranty) and took the entire transmission apart at no charge and fixed the problem. A small part went out that was faulty. He put a new one in, reinstalled the transmission and the whole vehicle runs again perfect. Shifts smooth through the gears. I couldn't have done it without him, and J&S. Also, they are open on weekends so I can come in for an oil change; smog, etc. without taking time off from work during the week. Serve coffee and donuts. Nice waiting room with soft couches, color TV. and a play facility for the kids to play with children's book, etc. I can't recommend them enough, unless I could give them ten stars instead to just five. I brought my car in for change brake pad for the 2 rear brake , my car is a Toyota Camry 2007, I bough my brake pad from the Toyota dealer and bring it to the repair shop, the owner David he charge me 70 dollars for the labor changing the brake pad and he also advise me I should rotors to get the job done perfect and promise me it will not make any sound when I brake. I came home and about couple days latter the brake start to make weird sound ,it 's not a squeaky sound but low and deep sound, I thought because it the new break so i give it sometimes, but it doesn't get better so i call him and bring the car to his shop on Sunday 8/22/2010,he let his worker test drive the car and after that told me i should bring it back on Tuesday because he have more worker on that day.On Tuesday 8/24/2010 I brought my car back at 9AM ,David told his worker test drive my car again and he told me that may be the rotor need to turn again or maybe the something wrong with the brake pad and because i did not buy the pad from him he not guarantee for it and not going to fix it, I told him that i very disappoint at his service because even i bring my brake pad he still responsibility for his job because how about his worker put it on the wrong way, he also said that is safe to drive the car, ,I feel like because i am a woman they always try to rip off when i bring my car to the mechanic. more

I have had pretty bad experiences with smog shops for a long time. I decided to search City Search for some suggestions. I am so glad that I found J & S, they helped me fix the problem, the service was great, the mechanics are knowledgeable. I felt like I was not screwed with. You can trust them. more

What a pleasure! Moving to a new place and finding a mechanic can be nerve wracking! My fiance's car hadn't had service done in years and was in desperate need of some repairs. The local tire service station was unable to diagnose some of the problems and gave me an outrageous quote. It turned out the car needed a ton of work. Dave had the car taken apart right in front of me and showed me all of the broken parts that needed to be replaced. Afterward, Dave broke things down to safety problems that should be repaired immediately, mechanical/maintenance items that were not a safety issue, but should be done soon and things that would improve the performance of the car, but did necessarily have to be done. I was scared to hear the final price, but it was EXTREMELY reasonable. I felt so comfortable with Dave and the price he quoted that I decided to have him perform ALL of the work. He did not disappoint!! One of the issues was a noise that was unable to be fixed 100% (it's an older car...to be expected), so he did not charge me for any repairs related to that issue. The car drives like it is brand new! I am extremely anxious about anything related to car repairs and he completely put me at ease! I highly recommend Dave! Dave and his mechanics are diamonds in the rough. I do most of my own work on my cars, and when it's something more intense like electronics or requires specialty tools, etc., Dave is my go-to guy. Pros: HONEST!!! more

A year ago I needed a tune up and belt replacement. The place I first went to performed the tune up at a reasonable price, but for the belt replacement, they quoted me $800+. Looking for a second opinion I bumped into J&S Automotive. Dave took a look at my car, said that I need new belts and told me it was $90 out the door. He also mentioned that my breaks were giving a little squeek and they would take a look at them to make sure they were ok. In the end I got the belts replaced that day, and was told that my breaks were good for about another year. Needless to day a year later I go back to get my breaks done, and with another inspection they tell me my car is in great working order. The world needs more Mechanic shops that work the way Dave and his crew does. Pros: Great work, real prices. Cons: None more

I have been taking my car, my wife's car and my mother-in- laws car to Dave at J & S for close to five years. I have to admit when I first went there I saw his monicker as being the only honest mechanic and I burst out laughing. I mean come on, my three top professions not to trust are attorneys, doctors and mechanics. Dave has always taken the time to explain exactly what the problem is and he makes a point to map out the options for whatever the problem may be. What I mean by options are what the most you could spend is, what the least you can spend is and what the time frame is on the present condition of the vehicle. On those rare occasions when something didn't work as he said it would he has always went out of his way to correct the problem at his own expense. There are not many mechanics or shops I would recommend, but this is one that I constantly stake my reputation against, and my reputation is GOOD. Pros: Doesn't BS you, gives it to you straight. Cons: He could have a better TV in the seating area..LOL. more

Just like you, I too decided to go to J & S because of the great reviews. Maybe I am a rare case here, but you judge for yourself. Pros: Nice and freindly until you talk about money. Cons: Doesnt look like they know what they were doing with my car. more

After reading the great reviews on Citysearch, I thought I would try this mechanic. David was extremely professional and the costs for my repairs were lower than what I was expecting when he gave me the estimate. There definitely was no sticker shock! He did such a great job that my husband and I decided to also take in our other car for repairs the next day. He's open 7 days a week (Sunday is for Smog Checks) and this allowed us flexibility in picking up the car because my husband had to stay late at work and David allowed us to pick-up the car the next day, no hassle or fuss whatsoever! I can truly say that he's one of those honest mechanics you can rarely find! It was also great to have my car smogged while it was there for other repairs. His staff was very cordial and helpful as well. No Attitude, No Fuss, No Crazy Costs! I needed new brakes on my 2006 Lexus IS250... Dave took really good care of me.. Giving me better parts than the car came with and charging less than half of what the dealer would of charged me. I was in a bind for money and had a car that needed attention.. I was nervous going to a no name shop.. But rest assured. I got better service than any name would have given me.. I went here based on existing reviews and I wasn't wronged. This place is great. Dave, the owner, is fare honest and helps you out. I've gone over 4x now with various problems (side view mirror, fuse, oil). He won't cheat you like the rest!~ more

My water pump and timing belt needed replacing. I called around several shops and this shop beat the competitor's price by $160. The shop owner was smart and kind and I felt taken care of. Would definitely go there again! Pros: fast, cheap, great work Cons: none. more
