J & L Property Management

Jeni Carrier, the owner of J & L Management is very unprofessional, abrasive, and difficult to talk to. It is amazing that she is in a business that seemingly requires soft skills, which she simply does not possess. My wife and I moved into an apartment that she manages and we have been regretting it on many occasions. Whenever a problem with the building association arises she has a tendency to avoid dealing with it and passes the buck to the association president. When my wife and I were on the market for a new rental apartment, we visited the place we are at, which due to frugality was not cleaned, but Jeni took her shoes off pretending as though it was clean and her white socks got black on the bottom immediately. Of course we had to thoroughly clean the place ourselves before moving in. Knowing her though, I bet that she will expect us to clean the place prior to moving out if we want our deposit back. In addition, our mint-condition AC unit was thrown out by her handy man, because we stored it in the laundry room and she offered us a $100 (which did not cover the cost of a new one), only after I cited that such action was illegal according to MN tenant statute. There are many other situations when she has failed to do her job professionally. If you are an easy-going person who wants to be left alone and treated professionally, then stay away from properties that Jeni and J and L Management ""takes care of."" more

I too have dealt with J & L and it has been a headache and hassle from day 1. Good luck trying to get a hold of the landlord and when you do they are the most unfriendly and unprofessional people you will ever meet. I have rented from many different landlords and businesses and this was a circus. Something wrong with your place? Not only will they not fix it but then they will charge YOU for it. Don't be surprised when they show up at your house at all hours of the day without notice or when you don't get your security deposit back for no reason or even when you get a bill in the mail for unknown reason. Save yourself the headache and misery of being in a lease with them and keep checking other places because I wouldn't want anyone else to have to go through dealing with them. more

If you're looking for the biggest headache you've had in your life then you've come to the right place. Unfortunately for myself, I did not hear of the incredibly unprofessional tendencies the landlady subjects her tenants to until having already signed a 12 month lease, but if you are currently reading this then hopefully you still have the opportunity to totally dismiss the ""For Rent by J & L"" sign and keep looking! I write this review purely out of sympathy for anyone who might make the mistake of doing business with J & L in the future. The above review could not state it truer; I myself have been walked in on while doing household chores on a Sunday afternoon (fully-clothed luckily) without so much as a knock on the door... I was cleaning dishes when I heard my puppy start to freak out in the living room. I go to investigate just to find the proprietor standing in the middle of the room in her work boots and NASCAR jacket. Quite a nightmare! And if that isn't enough to ward off any potential leasers, I found out too late in the game that J & L is notorious for not refunding a single cent of a deposit with zero explanation. Communication with the landlady is next to nil as well and God forbid you should need to contact her when you're stricken with an unforeseen emergency (i.e the repeated bursting of a water pipe in your basement.) But anyways, I hope this review has been helpful in your search and best of wishes to you in finding a place you're really gonna love. more
