J & G Pizza Palace

I started eating at J & G's since it opened and it is my favorite all time pizza. I hope it has not changed. I live a little too far to get there now, but when I am in the area and hungry it's my number one place to go. more

I asked for gyro meat on my pizza. Gyro meat was not a topping listed, but you can see the gyro meat spinning, and it is a Greek restaurant. The waitress told me that this cannot be done. She told me that I could order a gyro and put it on the pizza myself. The waitress said that people are always asking for a gyro pizza and they just don?t do it. I told her to ask the chef anyway. The chef came out of the kitchen and told me that this cannot be done because it takes too much time, and they have not done this for 40 years and they can?t start now. I found that interesting because it is an open kitchen and the cooks were all through my wait and dinner were slicing gyro meat. Also, in the time he took to come out of the kitchen it could have been done, or you slice some gyro meat ahead of time put it in a bowl as pizza topping when requested?how hard can it be? Well anyway this was my first J&G experience and other comments would be that the sauce was almost nonexistent and bland, cheese was excellent, the thin crust seemed to be a tad bit undercooked, no water to the table, waitress was hurried, not friendly, and overworked ( they did have help wanted signs though ) . They probably will not change their ways as the place was packed. Had a negative dining experience and probably will not return. more

I lived in Sylvania in the 80s, and I still haven't found a thin-crust pizza that's equal to J & G's (although the Black Pelican in Kittyhawk, NC comes close). J & G's dining room is small and was usually packed, so I got in the habit of calling ahead for carry-out. Many of the other locals did the same thing becuase the wait for a table on a busy night could be daunting. While at a conference in Sarasota, FL several years ago, I was talking to a woman who had just moved to Findlay, OH from Chicago. Somehow we got on the topic of pizza, and she said that she'd ""stumbled"" on the best thin-crust pizza she'd ever had -- at a pizza place with an odd name near Toledo. Was she surprised when I correctly guessed that she'd eaten at J & G's. BTW, they also make absolutely authentic gyros -- but I really miss that pizza!! more

I have been going there for 10 years now, and it just keeps getting better. The waitresses have been there for as long as its been open, and know what there doing. The decor has been up graded over the years and looks nice with the velvet wall paper. Sometimes the wait on a Friday nite can be up to 1-2 hours long at prime dinner time, the inside secret is to go early. They open at 4pm everyday. If your trying to find it, dont go by J &C's its J&G's Pizza Palace. Tell them Jessie sent you! Pros: the food is fresh and worth the wait! Cons: it's a wait! but well worth it. more

The resturant is still owned and operated by the same family that it always has been. The food is good for the pricing. I have been eating there for years. It is a short walk from most downtown residents. The dining area is small and the wait can be long. Take out is opinional. Pros: It is family owned and original. Cons: small and has not be modernized. more
