I took my mothers engagement ring ( at her insistence) to J.B. Lachers, where it was bought by my late father 65 years ago. I wanted them to check the setting and clean the diamond. I drove past 5 other jeweIry stores to get there. I arrived to find a heavy set woman going in, I asked, ""are you open for business?"", fulling expecting her to say something like, ""sure, come on in"". Instead, I got a short, ""We don't open 'til ten"". I went to my car and saw it was 9:50 and decided to wait. I stood outside the UNLOCKED door of the business in the cold wind and pouring rain, while I watched them windex the counters, and continue with the rest of their morning routine. They didn't even invite me in for some coffee, which I could see from my vantage point, with all the cups, fancy creamers, cookies, etc. At exactly 10:00 I received a hand motion from a man (Lacher Jr?) telling me to come in, he didn't walk to the door and welcome me in, he offered no apology and just acted like it didn't even happen! I really don't expect that they should hold the door for me, but at the same time, I watched them, and they watched me for ten minutes, standing in the cold rain and wind, outside an unlocked door, and made me feel like a big pile of nothing. They could have said, ""come in, we don't open for another ten minutes, but have a cup of java and take a look around, we'll be right with you!."" I guess they don't need the business, so I'll most surely go elsewhere in the future, maybe somewhere where the owners will treat you like you *are* someone. I'm giving them one star only because there is no ""0 star"" rating.
