Ever since Star of India burned down I have been looking for a decent Indian place that delivered to Cow Hollow and found the options kind of limited. Pros: Passable food, (theoretically) delivers to my neighborhood Cons: Bad service, rude employees more

A Host Of Flavors 1/12/2008

I have lived by Polk Street for over two years now. I have walked by this restaurant on several occasions and when I saw their menu displayed on the sidewalk my attention turned the other way. I had thought I written this spot off. Well it seems to be my bias?s have bit me in the you know what. I was terribly wrong, and should have walked straight into the restaurant instead. My go to Indian restaurant recently had a fire in their kitchen so I was off again to find the ever difficult good Indian take out restaurant. And what did I find but the restaurant I had written off. Indian Aroma is not only a great Indian restaurant, the delivery service was prompt, friendly and the food arrived still warm. I highly recommend giving this spot a chance, I am sure you will not be disappointed more

Best Indian on Polk (sorry Shalimar...) and probably in San Francisco 9/2/2007

So we lived around the block from this tasty Indian food palace for almost a year before we ever tried it because a close Indian friend told us that ""no respectable Indian would ever eat at an Indian restaurant with ""India"" in the name."" So, ya know, we wanna go where people who know the food would go, and we avoided it for a long time. . .until one night when an Indian taxi driver told us that his friend (at Indian Aroma) made the best Indian food in the city, and we decided to give it a try. Since then, we have been upwards of 15 times and have never had a bad experience. Service is great, prices are very reasonable and the food is wonderful. Our particular favorites include the lamb and chicken curries, which are always excellent; the chicken tikka masala (a spicy, delicious treat without that greasy look and taste that it has at so many other restaurants around here); all of the spinach dishes; and of course, the other North Indian veggie favorite, the chana masala. In summary -- Shalimar? please. Naan-N-Curry? Please. Aslam's rasoi? Double please. Rotii? OK, Rotii is pretty good, but you get what I'm trying to say here. Do yourself a favor and try Indian Aroma. You will not be sorry. Pros: Hands down, best Indian food in SF! Cons: ?Location more

very good, unassuming, indian restaurant 8/24/2007

Everything I've had here has been very good. I looked at the menu one night and one of the employees walked outside and struck up a conversation w/ me. i was fairly skeptical - i find most indian restaurants are fairly similar (w/ a few very notable exceptions) with the heaviness and grease kind of overwhelming flavor. Everything I""ve had here (madras curry, lamb that's not overcooked, fish, vege biryiani, somosas, tandori) has been better than most of this ""typical"" indian restaurant i allude to. i don't understand why nobody is ever there b/c the food is very good. Pros: best indian restaurant in this part of town; everything is tasty Cons: can't think of any more

Buried Treasure! 4/10/2006

This place is awesome! They have the best service and the best food. Forget the Fantasy Room, this place is way better. Not only is the food better, but it's cheaper and have better beer options. The past five times I've gone there, my girlfriend and I were the only ones there. Where are the people? Always order the special. One time we had the special and it was so good, we keep coming back for it, but it was never offered. I asked them to make it the next time, and they did! Just for me! The Garlic Naan is the best! Go to India Aroma. You're dumb if you don't. Pros: the food, very intimate, service Cons: can be drafty more

neighborhood gem 3/16/2006

i live nearby and often take guests to indian aroma. the food is excellent and they also feature decently priced bottles of wine. the vegetarian options are especially noteworthy. i have had only positive experiences here and recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for incredible tastes at a great value. Pros: flavor, value, location more

The best Indian restaurant in town 6/28/2005

I love this place and find any excuse to go and to introduce new people to it. It's small, friendly, quaint and the food is unbelievably good. The name is very appropriate- Indian Aroma - because as soon as you walk by the door you can smell this amazing aroma. They have so many options- vegetarian, seafood, lamb, chicken, etc. The food is not super spicy, it's just right in my opinion. The waiters are friendly and it's fun to watch (and smell) the chef preparing some of the food in their big oven. If you've never been there- please do!!! It never seems to be full and my husband and I can't understand why. It's just such a delicious, healthy and amazing place. I highly recommend it. Pros: Friendly staff, Healthy, Great taste! Cons: Not enough people more

It's like the best... ever... 5/26/2005

The place is colorful, the staff is terrific, and the owner has a big heart. I can't say, but it is way better then the place the indian restaurant my boyfriend works at. The food is outstanding. Delicious and Delightful! more

a new jewel was discovered 5/22/2005

Awesome Indian Food 9/23/2004

I make it a weekly ritual to eat here - the food is fabulous - and I've had Indian Oven (which is also great) but this is just as good and it's never crowded - it's very surprising as the food is never greasy, always quick service and they are extremely friendly. For anyone that wants a great little neighborhood spot - check it out!! I recommend the samosas, chicken tikka masala & palak paneer - amazing!!! Pros: great food, good service more

Exotic, as they said it! 1/18/2004

I happened to pass by this restaurant, previously located on Valencia by the name oF Scenic India and then they suddenly closed down and I m glad i found them again! Excellent food, specially the Tandoori, great Shrimps. A cute waitress told me ""We are the only Bangladeshi Cusine and know how to treat a fish"". and she was pretty true, but the part I enjoyed was the dim lights, soft and beautiful music and the Aroma- from their clay oven preparations i guess. It was a shock, to see the waiters chatting with regular customers, and I never knew they existed! Oh, some times you get on house items too! Pros: good recommendations, Reasonable prices, Cute waitresses! Cons: difficult to park. more
