Disappointed 12/15/2009

The salad and bread were fine. The wine list very good. But the butternut squash-stuffed ravioli was marginal at best. Very oily, pasta inferior -- thick, heavy. Inedible. The waiter did not come by to ask if we liked it. He took the full plate of food away and did not even bother to ask if we would have preferred something else. We will not be going back. Pros: Good bread, good wine list Cons: Food marginal, service lacking more

Best Private Dinning Room 4/23/2008

Best value for private dinning in area- NO ROOM CHARGE! \r The event manager could not have been more fexible with all of my special requests.\r I will go back for more work and personal functions. I think this is the last place downtown \r with free and easy parking onsite.\r Thanks to Gretchen and staff - Bravo! Pros: Free parking Cons: I ate to much more

Gross 6/30/2007

This was terrible Italian food. Never have I ever been disgusted by pasta, but this place did it. I went here for my prom, and maybe it was because we were on the ""banquet"" meal. It was just disgusting. The lasagna, ravioli, and whatever other dishes had no flavor, it was like chef boyardee quality. I absolutely would never return to this restaurant, even if it is a beautiful setting. The food is terrible (this should already be a warning....food is the MAIN thing of what your paying for) and the waiters/waitresses are rude and non-informative about the food also. more

Many complaints 4/27/2007

It's because of how overrated this restaurant is, is why I became a member here. It was that bad. People should know what I and two friends experienced tonight. The good: The service was quick. \r \r All three of us agreed on what we didn't like. We each tried different dishes. So here's the bad: \r \r 1) Waiter was snotty and acted like was doing us a favor by waiting on us. We are 99% of the time big tippers but this guy got 5% plus a few pennies from us at the end. \r \r 2) The food was greatly over-priced and none of us liked what we had. The portions were small, and not nearly enough sauce on anything to give it needed flavor. My pasta ravioli was undercooked and chewy. It wasn't close to being al dente. My friend who had the spaghetti complained about the lack of taste and sauce on her pasta. \r \r 3) The place was noisy. We couldn't hear each other speak from across the table and it wasn't even that crowded for a Friday night. No way would I think of this place as romantic as someone else commented.\r \r I wouldn't return. This is probably the worst dining experience I've had in many years. And I go out to eat often. Very much over-rated. Pros: Quick service, clean tile floors, lots of windows. Cons: Lots: Bad food, over-priced food, small portions for the price, rude waiter, pay for parking during days, noisy, more

Great Valentine's Day evening! 2/14/2007

Went there this past Valentine's Day with my girlfriend and I have to say it was an excellent evening. The server was very informative about explaining wine pairings and some special promotion regarding different regions of Italy they were featuring. We ordered the lamb polenta, insalata fornaio (I think that's what it was called), roast duck ravioli (for me), and she had the seafood linguine. All the food was brought out with impeccable timing and he didn't rush us at all. The ambiance was nice especially the high ceilings (gives it that grand look). Topped the night off with a nice port and some creme brulee like dessert. A great evening, great food...check this place out!! Pros: Ambience, Service, Food Cons: A little pricey, but worth it if you want to spend some money more

Great food! 11/19/2006

Although the food was pricey for the amount you get, it was amazing! I had the gnocchi and it was the best I've tasted! I went for my birthday with 3 other friends. We all had room for dessert since the meals were smaller portions, and I got my dessert for free! You can park in the garage until 11pm and have your ticket valadated! This would be a great place for a nice date too. Pros: Parking validation in the garage Cons: Food and drinks are pricey more

Great food, wine, ambiance and service 9/27/2006

Normally eat at the Walnut Creek Il Fornaio, however my wife and I met our daughter for dinnner this evening.\r \r Everything was top notch and the service from Scott was professional with a friendly touch.\r \r Also appreicated the close covered parking with easy access to the restaurant.\r \r Highly recommended. Pros: Wine list, ambiance, food and service Cons: Only small complaint was the menu stated 2003 Caymus Cab and it was a 2004 instead. more

Great Unique Italian Food 3/20/2006

I have been to many Italian restaurants in the area and absolutely love this one. It isn't your typical spaghetti & meatball Italian restaurant. I had the butternut squash & walnut ravioli and absolutely loved it! I had a bite of my fiance's braised short ribs and that was fantastic as well! Pros: Service, Atmosphere Cons: Parking more

Great Food - Lousy Service - Prices High 2/16/2006

Although the food is consistantly great, the hostesses and bartenders are rude. Ambiance is wonderful but the food is pricier than necessary. Overall we visit when a craving arises but dont expect much from the staff. Pros: Great Food, Ambiance, Location Cons: Afternoon Bartenders, Clueless Hostesses, Parking more

Great food in a beautiful atmosphere 1/9/2006

Consistantly delicious, fresh Italian food from different regions of Italy. Kind of pricey, but worth it for the wonderful food and the great atmosphere. Great for dates and special occasions. Pros: great food, atmosphere, romance Cons: pricey more

Not too impressed 9/24/2003

Have dined here several times and each time I come back I keep thinking it will be better. Learned my lesson on the 3rd visit. Service is terribly slow. Food is not all that to rave about. Bread basket has a good variety. Some of the specials are misrepresented - salmon fettucine - I thought would be fettucine with salmon on top was actually salmon noodles - not tasty at all. No taste. Noodles seem to be undercooked at times, chewy. A bit pricey and if I am going to spend money on a good Italian dinner I would stick to Biba's. more

Our Butts were sore!!! 2/11/2003

I am from out of the area, I used City Search to find a delicious yet romantic restaurant for my boyfriend and I to spend our 1 year anniversary. We arrived starving! I could not wait to eat! Unfortunately, we ended up spending the next hour and half eating our whole basket of bread, because it took forever for our appetizer, salad, and entree to arrive, and by the time we got our entree, we had gone through 2 baskets of bread! We were so full from the anticipation of our entree and of course from all the bread. We finally were done and by the time we left, we had spent a good 2 1/2 hours sitting! Our butts were sooo sore! While the service and the food was delicious, I would have to say we will not be visiting any time soon. more

Friendly staff, over-rated food 10/21/2002

Il Fornaio is a nice place to go for drinks after work. If you like Vladi, you may spot him and some of the other King's at this place but don't expect the best in Italian food. Order anything except the pasta dishes and you'll do fine! more

Beautiful ambiance 8/21/2002

Although it's a chain restaurant, it offers beautiful yet comfortable decor. It also offers an exciting menu. Pros: nice ambiance, good food, clean Cons: a bit pricey more

Italian at it's best 8/8/2002

Il Fornaio has combined elegence with the comfort of family. The employee's at Il Fornaio seem to know how to be professional and freindly at the same time. The food is consistently good and you can always find the perfect wine to go with this great Italian food. They have created a menu that will satisfy everyones hunger needs. I must say that I am most impressed with how they take on such large groups with such ease. They even have private rooms for those who need or want some privacy. Il Forniao has thought of everything to please anyone in any situation. more

WONDERFUL Italian Food 7/26/2002

There food is delicious. Not only is it delicious, you get the feeling like your in an Italian Restaurante in Italy. The service and waiters do there best service you and get your food to you on time. The price of the food is GREAT for what you get. I recommend that you try Il Fernaio. Pros: Reasonable, Good Parking, Good Food Cons: NONE, NONE, NONE more
