Read some reviews that seemed ok, so decided to take my girlfriend to this place for 1 yr annivesary. We had such a poor service encounter that I felt compelled to write a review...

Greatest Restaurant 6/23/2011

Been to II Toscano many times and always had a great experience. Food is excellent and the staff is so wonderful. Wine menu is fantastic and they always recommend a wine that goes with what we order which we always enjoy. Love the mussels and the lobster also the desserts especially the napeoleon delicious.\r It is one of my favorite places to eat and you will not be dissapointed ever it's excellent more

A Great Find in Douglaston! 1/4/2009

Don't let the negative reviews fool you, this place is elegant with great food and excellent service... a top notch place in Northern Queens. Go see for yourself, you will not be disappointed. Valet parking available. more

Exceptional food in a beautiful atmosphere, 8/13/2008

If you are planning to visit NYC area, you must try the exceptional food of Il Toscano Restaurant (42-05 235th Street, Douglaston, New York 11363, tel: (718) 631-0300 fax: (718) 225-5223).\r Pros: exceptional food in a beautiful atmosphere more

Average Italian food, horrible service 7/22/2008

I do not recommend this place for vegetarians. The service is horrible. I ordered a beer, waiter brought a cup that was 1/4 full with water which he poured into my drinking water. Food was average, have had better italian food up the street. If you plan on parking, bring exact change or get there early (no free parking besides street parking). Would not recommend this place because of the horrible service. more

fresh mozzarella made for you while you wait! 3/6/2008

I was told about this great restaurant near the LIRR train station in Douglaston, and took my wife there for dinner on a rainy Saturday night. I walked into a warm and beautifully appointed room with smiling faces and instantly felt that I was a regular. Great service, and great food were of course expected, and we were not disappointed! When the waitor told me that there was fresh mozzarella, I asked ""how fresh?"" I was told...we are going to make it for you. Indeed, warm mozzarella that left the taste of milk in my mouth transported me back to the Italian sausage shop from my youth growing up in Brooklyn. And that was only the beginning! My wife is a lobster lover, and she was told to order the ""lobster dish"" which while not on the menu, is available. I ordered the lasagna. We were both blown away! The lobster was cooked to perfection, and with the waitor's desire to make sure that it was taken out of the shell for her, it allowed her to enjoy the dish without having to do the work. For me..I had never tasted melt in my mouth lasagna -ever- but that was what I got, complete with all the cheeses, sauce and meat that is supposed to accompany a well made dish. It was almost like dessert. And since I brought up dessert, when you go, you must try the Napolean! Lighter than air, and wonderful to enjoy, it finished off the meal perfectly. And, we are not the only ones! Looking around the restaurant, (we dined in the upstairs dining room the last time, so there is plenty of room for big parties) we saw that everyone else felt the same way. The last time we went it was my wife's birthday and the manager introduced himself and bought us an after dinner drink. I cannot reccommend this restaurant more for people who want great food (try the veal!), great drinks, and great service- all in a winning atmosphere! more

The Best Italian Resaurant in New York! 3/6/2008

My husband and I go to Il Toscano regularly. We don't know what we like best; the food, extensive wine list, or the personal service we always receive. The food is always fresh and delicious. The fresh mozzarella is a MUST and you can never go wrong with the Lasagna. Make sure you save room for the Napoleon afterwards. It is Heaven on Earth! \r \r Just as good as the food is the service you receive, the staff is always warm and inviting and very knowledgeable about the food and menu. I can't say enough about Il Toscano but I will tell you it is my favorite restaurant!\r Pros: Everything Cons: None more

Best Lasagna and Napoleans i've ever tasted. 1/2/2008

This classy Tuscan Italian has the best lasagna, great fish and wonderful specials. The wine list is extensive and priced for every pocket. We have never had anything but great food in the 30 years we have dined here. more

Phenominal 1/9/2007

I took several clinets to Il Toscano and everyone was blown away by both the food and service. I would highly recommend trying it if you can get a table. Pros: Food, Food, Food! Cons: Finding it more

You have to have their Fresh Mozzerella appetizer & their Napolean for dessert! 10/15/2006

I've been to the restaurant on various occassions and felt compelled to write about it! I usually travel to the City with my friends but someone suggested Il Toscano and off we went. I think my first visit was 3 years ago and I keep returning. The reason is very simple, the food is always fresh and delicious and I've never been dissapointed. The food is not typical italian style cuisine and really, it is outstanding. The waiters are always helpful and the service is very good. They have an extensive wine list and if you need a suggestion they can guide you in the right direction. I would suggest going on a Thurs or Friday night. Saturday for me, is just too busy. I could go on and on but i'll stop now - go see for yourself! Pros: Fresh food, perfectly prepared. Family owned and very friendly. Cons: Will wait on a Saturday night with a reservation. more

Unique Italian Cuisine 2/26/2006

My husband took me here for my birthday and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was cozy with a very warm feeling. Our waiter was very nice and my house glass of chardonnay was light and refreshing. My husband tried the Italian beer and it was very good. I had one of the specials which was lobster in the shell..it was a full platter of lobster w/ a delicious garlic butter sauce. My husband had the Fettucine w/ shrimp, spinach, roasted garlic and plum tomatos which was light and delicious. The fettucine tasted like it was made at the restaurant. For desert the Tiramisu was fluffy and delightful~ We had a great experience there and would love to dine there again~ Pros: food, ambiance, parking Cons: a little noisy, crowded, a bit pricey more

Truly Fantastic 1/29/2004

Typically I do not spend my time reviewing restaurants. I am simply too lazy. However, as a long term customer and a true lover of fine cuisine, I felt I owed this restaurant a sliver of my time. After 15 years of consistant visits I have never been anything less then mystified by the magic this kitchen conjures up. I have been priviliged enough to sample the finest food this city has to offer. Il Toscano deserves a true round of applause. Fresh, original, creative, absolutely delicious - Perhaps I would chose a table at this cozy Italian corner versus an NYC top 5? I must admit, however, I am a regular! Pros: Fresh, Creative, Simply Brilliant more

Not friendly for non-regulars 10/9/2003

Read some reviews that seemed ok, so decided to take my girlfriend to this place for 1 yr annivesary. We had such a poor service encounter that I felt compelled to write a review for it. First, the food is okay. I've had better Italian, but I've also had worse. The ambiance is small and cozy, which wasn't too bad for a weeknight. But the service was simply horrible. The wait staff spent all their time catering to regulars they know well. We couldn't get our waters filled even after asking. It's hard to imagine worse service. So the bottom line? Don't go unless you're already a regular. Pros: Cozy Cons: Terrible service!, Somewhat pricey more
