Hungry Hobo

Like many others have said the Hungry Hobo is a great place to take the family with a clean dining area and friendly staff. They realize there are many places you could take your family to eat and they work hard to earn your business with fresh food served in plentiful portions. I especially enjoy the fresh bread and the way they pile on the meat. The Hungry Hobo is run by a nice local family that is community friendly, so it is a pleasure to patronize their business. I am so hungry for the Hobo now I must go! Thanks Hobo! more

Hungry Hobo has some of the freshest sandwiches and a menu that gives you several choices no matter what your tastes. I eat lunch at the Hungry Hobo several times a month and I consistently receive great service and delicious food. They are reasonably priced as well. I recommend them to all of my friends!! They also do a great job with catering, second to none!!!! more

Hungry Hobo has a nice menu selection, great food, substantial portions (especially for the prices) and a clean place to eat. They accommodate a wide variety of people from a single person to a large family. There's ample seating for all. I would highly recommend them. Our school has used them at fund raising events and for catering as well and they've never let us down. They go out of their way to make sure that you are satisfied. The only reason that I didn't give the Perfect score was for some of the service that we've sometimes received from the teenage/college age workers on weeknights in the establishment. However, it's never been poor enough to complain about. You won't regret eating at the Hobo! more

The quality and quantity of food you receive is great for what you spend. The meat is thick and juicy and the bread is devine. I would recommend these morsels to anyone. more

This is a great place to have subs and baked potatoes. Compared to the chain sub places, the amount of meat you receive is much more and great tasting too. Prices are fair and the taco tato is great! Staff is fast and friendly also. more

I had not ate at Hungry Hobo's for years and won a recent contest for a free sandwich. I had forgot how good Hungry Hobo was. The sandwich I got was terrific and had lots of meat on it and it was great. Everything was fresh and the staff was pleasant to deal with. I'm glad I won the contest or I might of never got the chance to try their product again. As others have said " a person can't go wrong eating there". T. Himes more

I am a Youth Pastor in Cedar Rapids and an Event Coordinator for a Christian Music Ministry and have been going to Hungry Hobo for a long time. The people are always kind and helpful and the food is fab. The Bake potato's are UNBEATABLE. the soups and sandwiches are fresh and very tasty. I also like that everything is made to order and in an awesome timely manner, and the punch card is very cool. and I think the quality at both locations rock. We have always been very satisfied after having a meal at Hungry Hobo. The sandwiches are great - you really get a lot for your money! Hungry Hobo catered my daughter's graduation party and everyone loved the sandwiches. I would highly recommend Hungry Hobo! more

We go to Hungry Hobo ALOT. Absolutely love the Taco Tater! Staff is always nice and love the owners. I always order from Hungry Hobo at Marion By Moonlight in the month of June. Can't go wrong eating here! more

This Hungry Hobo chain makes you feel at home when ever you visit. The staff is always friendly and ready to help. We usually place an order to go for lunch which is so simple. Just call in or fax your order and it's ready when you get there. The baked potatoes are the best. Very filling and plenty of toppings to choose from. Keep up the good choices more

I love the Hungry Hobo and even though I live out of town, I stop in whenever I am in Cedar Rapids. I usually get the baked potato because it is hard to find another place to get them with so many topping choices! The restaurant is clean and the staff is fast and courteous. I also love the ads with Ryanne, they are too cute!! more

I have had the opportunity to eat at The Hungry Hobo restaurant in Cedar Rapids and the one in Marion and have been pleased on each visit. My two sons, with teenage appetites, always get filled up without ordering additional items, my husband loves the "Railsplitter" (the Hungry Hobo sandwiches makes the competitors sandwiches look bad...real bad!), my 3 year old daughter thinks the PB&J kids meal is pretty cool...BUT the reason for this review is the TACO TATER. An extra large baked potato, chili, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream and taco chips, this is truly one of my favorite things! The first time I ordered the Taco Tater, I was going to order a sandwich too, but after talking to the friendly owner, I decided not to. It was more than plenty, in fact, I couldn't finish it. Although we don't live in the Cedar Rapids area, we make it a point to go there when we are in town visiting. The restaurants are ALWAYS spotless, the staff is ALWAYS very friendly and the food tastes great and is priced right! The Hungry Hobo catered our wedding and the party subs were such a hit, tasted great, looked great and fed a lot of people. I have also called in orders to be delivered to my colleagues in Cedar Rapids. The order was made fresh and delivered promptly. Whoever came up with their slogan "Easy to Find, Hard to Resist" did a great job...I couldn't have said it better myself! more

Have been a longtime customer of Hungry Hobo...The food is made fresh and is always delicious...Proprietor and employees are always friendly and attentive...Both facilities are clean and inviting...The prices are fair and reasonable, comparable to similar restaurants...Attempts are made to be creative in advertising & marketing, such as the radio commercials done by their young daughter...Given any choice my husband will always choose Hungry Hobo over all other restaurants... more

My family loves the Hungry Hobo for the same reasons mentioned above. It has all the elements of a great place to take the family or friends. The place is clean, the food is delicious...(especially the bread) , the prices are very affordable and the service is fast and friendly. The owner is very community friendly and supports many local events. It is a pleasure to support such a nice business that cares about it's community...and where else can you find such delicious baked potatoes??? Yes, this spud's for you! more

This Hungry Hobo store is the best! The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The manager gets to know his customers even in only a few visits. When I walk in there, I feel like I am their only guest, I have their full attention, and they are quick to please me. This is GREAT! The prices are comparable to other sub/soup/potato shops out there. But overall experience is MUCH BETTER! You can go to a fast food restaurant and order a baked potato, never-ever are you full. You usually have to order more, plus the potatoes are usually not cleaned very well. BUT at Hungry Hobo, their potatoes are clean, HUGE, and VERY Filling. I usually buy a #26, which is a Baked Potato with Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Cheese. I exclude the Cauliflower. And I am always very full after eating this alone. And it is HEALTHY. I wish I knew where they buy their potatoes, I would love to see them in a store that big. The speed of service is the same as a fast food restaurant. But you don't feel the hustle and bustle of it. They are just calm, quick, and friendly. They sell deserts that are HOMEMADE! Made right there in the store. Usually cake/brownies/and cookies. Also they have potato or macaroni salad, which I assume is also homemade. Choices of what to eat: Sub sandwiches, Baked Potatoes (Many varieties/options), Salads (more than just a plain salad), and Soup. Kids' meals are around $2.50 - they get a 'Baby Bo' (I think a 4" sandwich), either a pudding or a applesauce, and a drink (either milk or pop/tea). The Baked Potatoes cost between $3-$4. Today I saw someone take out a Taco Potato, it looked SO GOOD. Definitely will try it the next time I am there. I don't remember the price of the sandwiches, but it is good priced also. Definitely check out Hungry Hobo, especially this store. Tell the manager you heard about them on Judy's Book. Enjoy!
