As a steak and cheese connoisseur, I travel far and wide for that spectacular Steak and Cheese sub that is perfect in taste and all around goodness. Located in front of Miami Dade College, this sub shop makes the most delicious subs in town. You won't be disappointed. The Steak used in the sub has no fat hanging from the pieces like most places, it's all perfectly cut and one bite you'll be sold. !!! They have a chicken sub that everyone raves about... go and try this place you'll appreciate my advice. more

Survivng and thriving. 3/8/2010

My parents took me to Hungry Bear every Sunday after church when I was growing up. I'm only 23 now, but as an adult, I still find myself pulling into that familiar parking lot ever so often. The food is fantastic and quick, the staff are friendly, and the sheer smell that seems to hover around the store makes your mouth water before you've opened the door. But I have to be honest here. It's not as good as it used to be. I work in a restaurant myself, and have noticed they cut corners similar to the ones my place of work has suffered. It's not without reason, though. Small businesses feel the weight of a sagging economy far more than any individual does, and they've done an exemplary job of maintaining most of their high standards. I guess I can put it this way: Yeah, they're not as good as they used to be. But 95 out of 100 is still damn delicious. Pros: Quick, Delicious, Large Portions Cons: Not as good as it used to be more

Best subs in the US. I lived in Miami till I was 15 I've been going there since I was little. Now I live in ga and crave this place all the time. Can't get food like that anywhere else! more

The food is decent, it gives me the runs though. I met the owner and he sort of comes off as creepy. I feel like he was looking at my butt. Other than that try the steak and cheese. There is a guy there with glasses who I think was a manager that had an erection in his pants as I spoke to him. more

I love Hungry Bear. I've been going there since 2002. It's a hole in the wall store that usually has a big line (in and out in 10 minutes though). There are a lot of teenagers there to take your order. My normal favorites are: philly cheese steak, teriyaki steak, and american cold cuts sub. Subs range from $5 - $9. more

The best sub shop in Miami hands down. Always fresh and made to order. Best steak and cheese outside Philly.. more

Not as good as it was 6/25/2009

Have patronized as long as it's been in this location. Last few years, it reeks from too many shortcuts. Still very good but nowhere near as good as it used to be. In the past, we brought out-of -town visitors there and they rave also.\r \r Last 3 or 4 times, it seems to me that the focus is more on speed than flavor. My steak and onion sub with everything but mustard and cheese was barely warm. Had to search to find the peppers. They totally forgot about oregano and were definitely chintzy with the onions, oil and vinegar (if they used it at all.) I also requested to not cut it and they did it anyway.\r \r Bear (ha ha) in mind, that there were only two other people in there when I went so it wasn't like the CC lunch jam.\r \r Somebody needs to address these issues or you will see business falling off at a rapid place cause you aren't cheap. Pros: Tasty Cons: Half baked effort more

great subs, especially the buffalo chicken more

the best cheesesteak in miami!!! 1/15/2009

the best CheeseSteak in miami so far... Fast service, Fresh ingredients!!! wish they were more organized.. around 10 bucks for a sub, chips and can of soda... Pros: fresh food Cons: no credit cards - no indoor seating - charge for use of debit card - dirty outdoor sitting more

Ive eatin at just about every sub shop in miami and hungry bear is by far the best! Dont be intimidated by a long line, they work like a finely tuned machine! Theres Simply no comparison! 2/5/2008

Like the other reviews say, there is no indoor seating, but the hungry bear provides benches outside with partial shade during certain times of the year. You wont be let down. You can sit on cold concrete and still enjoy these subs! Take my word for it ive been eating them since i was 8 years old and now im 33 so obviously the are doing something great! more

Great Subs - try the turkey & bacon or cheesesteak 11/2/2007

It was tough - 4 or 5 stars. I gave it a 5 although there is no indoor seating which is my only complaint. Okay, two complaints. They should take credit cards too. Who carries cash? Anyway, on to the subs. The cheesesteak is freak'n awesome and will give Philly a run for their money. Geno's and Pat's would have to watch out. I'm big and trying to eat a little lighter so I've eating the Turkey and Bacon. The hot sub is great and they've been getting right long before Quizno's showed up. \r \r A great local's place. Go there and chow down. Enjoy.\r \r Pros: Damn fine sub - they've been around a couple of decades so they are doing it right Cons: no indoor seating - it's okay in the cooler months but hell in summer if you are eating there more

Best subs 2/10/2005

If you want an extensive variety of subs, made fresh and quick, Hungry Bear is what you are looking for. There is no seating, it is strictly takeout, but well worth it. The subs are reasonably priced (about $7) and so good! more
