Best

Living in NYC and Denville, I can honestly say that Hunan is one of, if not, the BEST Chinese food around. I've been to Mr. Chow and Mr. K's and this is much better. Believe me.

Worst

The food is average for chinese food. Atmophere is very nice and I imagine that is what you are paying for since the price is high and the portions are small. I've been there be...

Not the best experience. 7/24/2010

Service: Good About the Maitre D':(or was he the Owner?. When they were ready to let us go (4 people) to the dining rooom, this person (Maitre D' or Owner) instead of saying: please follow me, said "Hey! Over here!". Food: Filet Mignon ($23.00) hard! Some kind of cicken for my friend :with no taste at all. The same Maitre d" (or owner)in the middle of eating asked us rudely " have you finished? " I understand that it was Saturday night, but we were there just for 35 minutes! Martini :very good, but they forgot the ice. If you like to be addressed in a rude manner and you like not so good food, then go there. But because the waiting staff was good I left 25% tip. And , by the way, I owned restaurants for 26 years, so I know about food and politeness. more

At Least the Decor is Nice 3/14/2009

Microscopic portions of horrible food at shamefully high prices. Dubious interpretations of classic dishes. This is not even decent American-Chinese food. Home of what is perhaps the world's smallest shrimp roll. Oh yes, I also had to spend a significant portion of the following day in the bathroom. The establishment does look pretty cool inside and out in a Disneyesque/Chinoiserie sort of way. There were no Asian customers in the place when I was there. more

In the mood for Chinese! 12/18/2006

Hunan Taste is a really fun place to go! The whole outside of the building is done up to look like it was taken right out of China! They also have a real Coy pond that attracts everyone's attention. Inside they have one whole wall lined with a huge fish tank. This always provides a fun conversation! The food is also very good and the portions are huge! However, they really mark their prices up for dinner and they even have a per person minimum during dinner hours. So if you wanna give it a try, make sure you go for lunch! more

I miss Hunan 3/21/2006

I used to work in the area and would look forward to my trips to Hunan. I really enjoy their food.. Their lunch specials are really tasty, very fresh, and definitely not the typical fast food Chinese. I usually got Beef with Vegetables, which was sautéed beef, varieties of mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, etc. in a flavorful sauce. I asked for it medium spicy and it always came out perfect. soup and rice included, spring roll or soda for $1 more, and pineapples at the end for dessert came to about $10 including tip. My favorite American Chinese restaurant. Dinner menu is much more expensive. Fish tanks are beautiful. Excellent service. more

Ok but not for families 8/26/2005

The food is average for chinese food. Atmophere is very nice and I imagine that is what you are paying for since the price is high and the portions are small. I've been there before kids and after kids. Let me tell you that with kids, we were there at 5pm on the dot and they were not very kid friendly. It was obvious that having kids in the restaurant annoyed the workers, which is a shame. I'm definitely not going back and I'll find somewhere else to spend my money when I want chinese food. more

China Town in Morris County - Classy Chinese Food 8/22/2005

When you look at the building - an ornate pagoda-like structure with lots of red and gold - you think kitsch, not great food. But one taste and you will know that this is exactly what first rate Chinese food should be. The decor inside is as beautiful as the outside, but once the food is on the table, your eyes will be focused on the dish in front of you, not the wall paper. Their specialty seems to be great, fresh seafood and I am hooked on their shrimp. They serve a dish called Mongolian triple feast with beef, shrimp and chicken and the shrimp is the star of the show. When we have guests or when my company has visitors from Europe, we bring them here. They are always impressed. The prices are higher than the local take-out place, but the food is so good that I think they are worth it. more
