CARROL COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY: Worst Experience EVER 2/24/2011

My boyfriend and I were looking to adopt a dog this new year and came across Carroll County Humane Society and decided to take a look at what animals they had up for adoption. Stepping foot in this shelter was the WORST decision we ever made. This was the most rude, unfriendly, uneducated, judgmental staff of people I've ever encountered at any shelter. We were going through the process of beginning to adopt one of the dogs we were fond of, and immediately were discouraged, insulted and judged by our decision when we were making the adoption final. They refused to let us walk the dog and be with it alone by ourselves because our time in the back room we had with the dog for 10 minutes ""was enough."" Unbelievable. Just the most terrible experience. We let they know how we felt and we left without so much as a thank you and declined the adoption. DO NOT GO HERE TO ADOPT AN ANIMAL. We went to The Humane Society of Baltimore County and found our dream dog and had a very positive experience. I would recommend there any day over this place. more

Grouchy people! 6/2/2010

The persons in charge at animal control don't want to answer complaints and do their jobs. Nikki, very rude and angry all the time. Brian, sounds like he wants to help then reads the laws to you to make you seem stupid and him educated. Neither works. They kill when they say they don't and they lie right to your face. Carroll Co. Directors take note, your employees are making you look real bad! more

Gross people, gross facility and THEY KILL ANIMALS 12/5/2009

This place is not good at all. The staff are VERY uneducated and make you feel bad for adopting certain breeds. Nobody I know has had a good experience at this place. It's dirty with no beds for the animals - it smells terrible - and the staff are super lazy and as stated, uneducated. It's a shame that people still take animals to a place like this, when there are plenty of GOOD shelters and rescues around. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend setting foot in the place. It's also important to note that this place is a KILL SHELTER - meaning that they don't save all animals they receive. I know someone who took an animal here only to find out after checking back on the animal that they killed it! The staff is bad, the facility is bad and not worth your time. more

This NO PUT TO SLEEP SHELTER DOES PUT DOWN Animals 9/11/2009

THis facility claims to be a no end of life shelter but they recently put down a yellow lab who had some aggression issues towards other dogs. This dog was adopted by a young couple and they found the dog to be sweet, loving, and very well behaved. He did act aggressive towards other dogs when he saw them by pulling on his leash, barking, and growling but would stop and sit when commanded to do so by his owners. My 11 year old yorkie gets horribly aggressive towards other animals but has never attacked any of them . The young couple took the dog back to the Hunane Society for advise on how to cope with the fact that they lived in a townhouse in a community surrounded by dogs and they were wondering if Sampson might do better in a home with more yard to run and less run in with other dogs. The Humane Society took Sampson from this couple with the false impression that they would be attemting to find him a ""better"" home . Four hours later this young couple decided they made a mistake and wanted their dog back but when they contacted the Humane Society in Westminster they were informed that the dog was ""their property"" and that they had made the decision to ""put him down"" due to him not being ""adoptable"" HOWEVER he was wanted by these two people who NEVER would have taken him to this horrid place had they know that there EVER would have been the possibility of him being put down. They refused to return the dog to this couple and only 4 short hours later they found out that the dog had been put down by this facility. No attempt was made to reconcile this family, no attempt was made to see if the aggression was such that warranted this decision, and at no time was the owners consulted at all about their findings regarding Sampson. He was just put down out of convenience of the center. They already got their money for him so why keep him???? Their comments were ""we do not have to justify our decisions to anyone"" and that ""he was their property"" to do with what they saw fit. HOW is it FIT to put down a dog who has two people who wanted to take him back to their home and give him another chance at LIFE. DO NOT BELIEVE this facility and their lies about their commitment to the animals under their care. THEY ARE A shelter that will put down animals as they ""see fit"". Unfortunately we had to learn the hard way that they do this and in doing so lost a dear, sweet lovable and well behaved/gentle yellow lab by the name of Sampson to the cold hearted people who run the Carroll County Humane Society on Littlestown Pike in Westminster, MD PLEASE BOYCOTT THIS FACIILITY AND DO NOT MAKE MONETARY DONATIONS TO A NO PUT TO SLEEP SHELTER THAT DOES INDEED END THE LIVES OF ANIMALS!!!!!!! Pros: LIES LIES AND MORE LIES Cons: THEY PUT DOWN ANIMALS more
