Quality Care 2/10/2009

We are deeply grateful to Huffard Animal Hospital for their concern, care, and compassion. The respect shown to us during our visits are wonderful. We are always made to feel as if nothing else is more important than our immediate situation. All of the loving care that everyone shows during the medical/surgical and boarding visits is very much appreciated. Huffard Animal Hospital is outstanding and I would recommend anyone go there to see thier well educated vets and wonderful staff. more

Great Place 2/9/2009

The people who write anyting bad about this hospial are the low lifes that would problably spend money on a pair of shoes instead of thier pets. The staff is careing and would do anything possible for the pets. Those fees they ask for well they are acutally to pay for the drugs that save your pets! Dr. Goldman is the best vet and has run that place for years. The person who called him a "slimey salesman" obviously does not know just how much he cares for the animals and his staff! When we didnt have enough money he discounted his price and im sure he lost money. If you want to see a good vet go to Dr. McCafferty or Dr. Mosby. They are the best. The hours are great and they do thier best to get you in as soon as possible. The harsh reality is that pets die just like humans and we all look for someone to blame so hey why not blame the vet right?? Find something constructive to do. THIS IS A GREAT HOSPITAL! more

Horrible Vet 1/7/2009

My husband and I have been going to Huffard for the past five years. The front desk staff is horrible. Dr. Goldman is like a slimy salesman. We put up with those things, because there are some nice vets that work there, and we really only had to go there for routine check-ups and vaccines. However, all of that changed this year, when one of our dogs became extremely ill. We took her to an emergency vet, and after a couple weeks in their care, her condition greatly improved. She still required ongoing tests and medication, but we thought it was safe for Huffard to take over her case. We were very wrong. Huffard does not have vets that are experienced enough to handle anything out of the ordinary. They did not pay enough attention to her care, and she died. Maybe if Dr. Goldman was more interested in pet care than in making money, the focus would be on the animals themselves, not how many they can get in and out the door. more

The best vet in town!!! 12/18/2008

I highly recommend the vet care at Huffard Animal Hospital, they are truly made up of a caring and dedicated staff. The vets there are very well educated. The vet industry is a very LOW paying field to be in and you have to love it to be there so I think the staff there must care an awful lot about other people's pets. Sometimes the view from the waiting room can make it look a little crazy but those girls work hard! Every time I have ever called and had an emergency they always fit me in!!! more

Awful 11/20/2008

They gave my cat a GLOWING healthy review in September 09. Charged for leukemia tests and shots they apparently did not do because in Nov 09 I brought my cat in because he was not eating for a whole day. Huffards said they could not see anything wrong and I should go to the Annapolis ER where they can perform test. BTW they charged me $138 for telling me to go elsewhere Went to the Annapolis ER and they said he has leukemia so bad there was not hope. It was a crime they did not preform what they charge for! more

Awful! 11/19/2008

They are only about the money and they dont know what they are doing. Stay away from here if you want your pet to live! more

awful.wouldnt recommend it 10/15/2008

do not go to this vet they are awful completely insensitive. after a distemper shot my pom got really ill i brought her back a day later (even then they kept telling me to give her a couple days because it was normal to be out of it and they had no idea what was wrong it was on a sat and all they wanted me to do was go to the emergency vet because they were closing i was there for several hours for nothing...my pom ended up DYING and the stupid vet had no sympathy she told me theres always risks with shots more

Good: nothing. Improvements: place should be shut down for killing animals. more

They didn't do a damn thing... 10/10/2008

We took our dog there because she just stopped eating and was vomiting and losing weight. They said she seemed depressed. They did blood work, urinalysis, fecal study, IV fluids and still nothing - $1200 later - yes, $1200 for our dog to have a little R&R. They sent her home with two antibiotics - which I never gave her because they didn't know what we were treating and she would have most likely thrown them up. Turns out, it must have been a stomach virus of some sort. She's fine now! more

terrible experience! Front desk horrible & needs to be retrained. They told me my pet had to be hospitalized or it would die but I didnt have $750. I took my pet home & hes great now without their care. I think its about their paycheck and commission. Plus Dr. goldman needs a mint! Actually try the whole box of mints. Its terrible to speak to clients with garlic breath. more

THE BEST VETS, Part 2!!!!! 4/3/2007

In February 07, I was awakened about 6:00 a.m by my Yorkie, Benji. He was yelping w/pain. He was fine the night before, so I didn't know what to think. His pain got worse, so we took him to the animal emergency hospital that morning (Sunday). He was diagnosed as having pancreatitis and admitted to the hospital. The next day I transferred him to our regular Vet., Huffard Animal Hospital. Over the next few days he got worse. (Pancreatitis is a treatable disease for otherwise healthy dogs. Benji has diabetes controlled w/insulin just as we are. He has lost his vision in his right eye and 80% in his left eye as a result of his diabetes, so his vision is very poor. Pancreatitis is often seen in dogs w/diabetes.) The vet. (Dr, McAfferty) discussed the possibility of having to put him to sleep if he doesn't soon get better. Although he was getting powerful pain meds. he still cried out in pain. On day 5 he appeared to be stronger and feeling better. He showed continued signs of improvement and on day 7 he was allowed to go home, even though he still couldn't keep anything down. However, within 2 days, he was eating again w/dog food sold only at the Vet. office. He has since regained almost the 30% weight loss he experienced and is back to himself. Benji was about as close to death as one could come w/o actually dieing. I would visit him at least twice a day for several hours each time. It was difficult to see him crying out in pain. I felt so helpless. I cried all the time fearing losing him as I lost Mollie 7 months before. The staff at Huffard showed the same patient, kind and compassionate care in the back office as they did w/Mollie. I can't begin to find the right words to say thank you, but I sent them a thank you note and baked them a cake to say thank you. I am greatly indebted to the staff of Huffard Animal Hospital. Once again, I give them 5 stars and more. I'm so lucky to have their services right here in our own small community. By Kathy Englert more

THE BEST VETS!!!!! 4/3/2007

In Aug. 06 my beloved cocker spaniel (Miss Mollie) got sick. She stopped eating and started bleeding from her mouth. I immediately took her to Huffard Animal Hospital, where I have been taking her for 10 yrs. After looking at her, the Vet. was not optimistic and ran a series of blood tests. He (Dr. Spock) stated that she had tumors all over her underbelly and she was also bleeding internally. Her white blood cells were off the chart and her hematocrit was so low she was actually bleeding to death. A diagnosis of terminal cancer was decided and all we could do was make her as comfortable as possible. For 3 days I was in and out of the hospital spending as much time as possible with her. I cried every day, all day. The first 2 days when I cried, she would lick my face as if to say it will be ok. On day 4, the Vet. called me and told me that if I wanted to be there when she passed away I needed to come immediately. I was there w/in 15 mins. She perked up when she saw me. As a last resort we decided to try a blood transfusion which probably wouldn't change much, but we had to try. As the blood was given, her abdomen was swelling. This is a sign of internal bleeding. I was then told that I needed to think about putting her to sleep. Her pain continued to intensify and as I talked to her my inner pain intensified too. At one point she turned to me w/sad eyes as if to say it was time to let her go. I then made the decision I hoped I would never have to make. Holding her in my arms, the doctor proceeded w/the injections. Within 15 seconds her heart and lungs stopped. It was over for her but it was just the beginning of heart ache and loss for me. I sat holding her and crying for a long time and then handed her to the tech so her body could be cremated and returned to us. Dr. Spock was warm and sincere. I could see him feeling my pain. Four days later I received her remains in a sealed wooden coffin about 5" x 8", along w/a cremation certificate. A week later I received a sympathy card signed by everyone who works at Huffard. I still miss Mollie and cry at least once a day or when I talk about her. She was a beautiful purebred black cocker spaniel and was small in stature compared to other cockers. She would twirl for a treat and loved the kids in the neighborhood. When she rolled over to have her belly rubbed she look like a baby bear. During the last 7 hrs. of Mollie's life I spent sitting by her cage and watching everything that was going on in the back office. The staff were professional and kind to each pet. They treated them the way they would want their own pet treated. They were patient and compassionate. After watching this for 7 hours I knew I wouldn't want to take my pets anywhere else. I give this Vet. practice the highest rating possible. By Kathy Englert more

Huffard Animal 7/7/2006

We have been taking our dog to Huffard for over one year now and we like that appointments are easy to get...usually the same day but the front desk staff is horrible. It reminds me a roadcrew when there are 6 standing around and 1 working. It is very frustrating so I will be looking elsewhere for a vet. more
