Very knowledgeable people. I had to buy a part for my toilet. My Dad sent me there to buy some kinda ball. Mike (I think that was his name) that worked at Ace, took the time to speak with my Dad over the phone and make sure I purchased what I needed. more

Not Great - Getting Worse 11/3/2009

We have been customers at Houston's for many years. Time to call it quits. Consistently getting worse in overall quality of food and portion size is ever shrinking. Prices are high!!! Quality and quantity are low. Manager, Jeff, has indifferent attitude, aloof. Pros: Location Cons: Over priced chain - always less quality and less quantity more

Absolutely WONDERFUL! 2/18/2009

My girlfriends and i went to houston's for the first time the other night....we sat down and got greeted within 30 seconds!! Quick service and our waitress was so friendly and attentive. I orderd the BBq ribs which pretty much fell off the bone!! My friend orderd the ribeye which was cooked to perfection! Our server told us that everything is made fresh daily including their salad dressings! ...I reccommend this restuarant to EVERYONE....Chain restuarant or not it is amazing. Pros: Service and food Cons: Parking more

Horrible service and ok food 1/11/2008

Two of my friends and I decided to go to Houston's for an all girls lunch. Our waitress was beyond rude and the food was ok at best. It took 10 min to get our water and tea. Her service was so horrible that another server began to answer our needs. We all ordered salads and she brought out the first 2 salads but the third came out 10 mins later. We had to remind her that she forgot the other salad. The icing on the cake was when she told the table next to us that she would be with them we she gives ""those girls"" their check. Highly unprofessional! I gladly left her a tip of $0.01! Pros: I love the chicken salad Cons: The prices raise every year, at least it seems that way more

Simply Embarrasing 1/4/2008

Not worth the wait, and certainly not worth the price. Spinach dip good, the rest of the menu mediocre at best. Relative to the price, the food is poor. More frustrating is the seating policy around the bar. Apparently the tables around the bar are available first come first serve for dining and separate from regular dining which I was not made aware of but eventually learned while my wife and daughter and I settled in for a forty minute wait for a regular table. After waiting about twenty minutes and watching others take tables around the bar for dining we noticed a party was getting ready to leave. Not wanting to hover like hawks over the table we waited a courteous distance when a rude man who had just walked in the restaurant walked up and stood right next to the table while the party was still seated. When I asked the man if he realized others who had been here longer were waitng, he rudely said "" so what and this table was first come first serve"". Unfortunately I exchanged some unpleasantries with this person, but at no time did anyone from the restaurant attempt to remedy this situation. I cannot believe with this unorganized, unfair system that this is the first time this has happened in this establishment. I guess I wouldn't expect more from a chain restaurant, and I will never step foot in this restaurant again. more

Houston's is a casual restaurant. Far from fine dining. 6/15/2007

The other day a friend and I decided to eat at Houston's after a round of golf. We were told that we could not eat in the dining room because we were wearing caps. We noticed a female dining in the restaurant wearing a cap. I brought it to the hostesses attention and she said the men can't wear a cap in the dining room. I've eaten a many fine dining establishments around the New Orleans area and I would never wear a cap in those restaurants. Houston's is not fine dining. It's a chain restaurant that is a step above Copeland's, Ruby Tuesday, etc. The Houston's employees walk around with some sort of arrogance as if they are better than the customers. more

Not UP to Parr 2/12/2007

Hickory Burger: ordered medium well,.. a good veterinarian could have had the beef up and grazing again,..it was served rare. No Lettuce or tomato on burger,.. perfect...except it was served with Cabbage. not written on the menu that way, Waitress had an attitude about having to return the burger to kitchen for cooking,.. offered no good reason why it had cabbage on it,. but it was up to me to pick it off. Pros: Ambience, Cons: Customer Service, Food, wait staff more

Best thai steak salad ever! 8/13/2006

I love steak salads & I've tried many..including the Black & Bleu steak salad, ribeye steak salad, and many others..but so far, this salad has been the best..doesn't come with lettuce..comes with cold noodles, mango, crushed peanuts, basil leaves, steak medallions which are so tender & juicy, shredded cabbage, carrots, avocado, tomato, and an awesome salad dressing. I definitely recommend this salad as an entree...nice portion that fills you up. more

not very order out friendly 7/23/2006

great food, great atmosphere but sometimes just want to enjoy it at home, not possible with houston's of metairie. in this post katrina world this is not an option. we are loyal patrons of houston's and are very disappointed that they would not acccomadate our request for take out. the response to our request was, ""dine in only, we close in one minute."" houston's of metairie, thank you, for helping rebuild new orleans. more

Still got the taste of delicous food 8/25/2005

Whenever my boy friend comes from New York, the first place we go to is Houston's Resturant on Veterns. Its just great. I would say if you come to New Orleans next time DO NOT EVER FORGET TO GO TO HOUSTON'S RESTURANT AND THE BEST N BEST HAVE SPINACH DIP. I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH...COULDNT FIND THAT DELICIOUS SPINICH DIP IN ANY OTHER RESTURANTS IN WHOLE LOUISIANA. I WOULD RECOMMEND EVERYBODY TO GO AND ENJOY AT THIS RESTURANT. YOU WILL NEVER WANT TO STEP OUT AND WILL NEVER FORGET THE TASTE OF DELICIOUS BLACKEND FISH AND SPINACH DIP. more

the best 11/7/2003

I have never, ever left Houston's unhappy. The food is so fresh, and they prepare everything from scratch. Even their ketchup is prepared fresh daily. Home of one of the best burgers and spinach dip in town. more

Upscale Food and Service 9/23/2003

I have eaten at Houston's on Vets many times and find the place to be very upscale in food and service. As compared to many New Orlean's restuarants, Houston's is value added and is worth the experience. They have the very best salad dishes in town. The wait staff are some of the best you will find anywhere. Pros: Food, Service Cons: Parking more

ALWAYS A GREAT CHOICE 2/3/2003

Houstons will always be my choice to dine. The food & salads are always consistant. The prices seem to go up alot, but it's well worth it. Pros: Service Cons: Price range more

Another sign of the times 7/9/2002

I've been in the N.O. Houston's. It's a chain. It is to New Orleans restaurants what Brittany Spears music is to Louisiana music. If you regard both Brittany and Houston's worth your money, I can get you a great deal on a velvet Elvis painting. You'd be better served to have Domino's deliver to your mobile home than to dine at Houston's. Cons: it's a chain more

Plain vanilla 5/29/2002

If you are in New Orleans and eat at a chain restaurant, you should go move to Iowa or Arkansas. Go to a local joint - you will not only experience the culture and attitude of New Orleans, but you'll eat better food at far better prices. C'mon people. Houston's? There's so much better out there. Live a little. Life's too short to eat in a corporate chain. more

Too self-important 5/20/2002

While I like Houston's spinach dip and other menu items as much as the next person, it's a little hard to swallow the restaurant's uppity attitude. I certainly find nothing wrong with aspiring to greatness, not even for a chain, but sometimes I think the staff needs to be reminded that this is not fine dining. I'm not suggesting Houston's adopt a cheesy, uber-casual approach -- other chain restaurants have proven that is bad to the other extreme -- but how about personalizing the service a bit and lowering the prices. Ten bucks for a salad served by a dour waiter? There are too many good and genuinely upscale restaurants in the New Orleans to wait around for what you guys are serving. more
