Worst chicken fried rice ever!!! Seems like they use Spam for the chicken...no peas or onions at all...and they definitely mix in regular white rice...what a joke...also the lo main was dry as eff! No more more

Excellent Food 9/26/2009

I'm a frequent customer at House of Wong and have been for many years. The food may be more americanized but if you take a look around most of the people who live in the area want that kind of food. The food is always much quicker than most restuarants you go to. I've gone to Old Chicago and waited like 40 minutes for my meal, whereas everytime I go to House of Wong my meal is usually up within 10-15 minutes. I have never had a bad experience with a server there. The sunday crew is especially friendly... my husband and I enjoy seeing our favorite servers there. The portions are huge for the money you pay. The french silk pie isn't really french silk, but it still tastes good. It is really a good family place to go. The servers have such good rapport with the customers. They know most of the customers by name. It's still our favorite place to go :) Pros: Friendly servers, quick and yummy food Cons: music and bathrooms more

AWESOME food, FAST and MORE than enough food! 6/29/2009

I have been going to House of Wong since I was a child and the food is EXCELLENT! It hasn't changed one bit over the years, with the exception of the price. You get an excellent meal, large portion (you always have enough to take home), the food is always fresh and hot, the servers are efficient and your food is out within minutes. Anyone who says this place is bad, should go to one of those scary Chinese restaurants where you don't know what kind of meat they are serving or how clean the kitchen is. You don't have to worry about that here. Yes, HOW has American food, so they cater to everyone, but I always get Chinese. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and don't forget to get the egg rolls--they are the best! I have NEVER had bad service and I've been coming here for over 30 years. Kudos to Mr. Wong and the staff at this awesome establishment. Pros: Portions, selection, quality, service, promptness Cons: Lots of older people more

Decent but not the best 4/28/2009

The food is okay, but not something I would absolutely have to have again. To say its the best you've ever had means you haven't been to enough 'authentic' Chinese restaurants. Pros: Huge parking and great pies. Cons: More American food than Authentic, music is annoying. more

Used to be a fan, not any more. 9/8/2008

I used to love house of wong's food, but the quality has changed drestically over the years. I ordered take out a few months back since I hadnt eaten there for about a year. I was incredibly dispointed with my food. The chicken was grizly and cold, and the sauce was bland. The staff was incredibly rude and acted as though it was an inconvenience to serve me. Pros: Decent Rice Cons: Nasty chicken, poor service more

One of my favorite restaurants! 1/29/2008

I ate quite often at the House of Wong with my family. I've grown up in roseville my entire life, and after reading reviews submitted, I do feel the need to point out that the HOW has ALWAYS been about 1/2 american and 1/2 chinese...Anyways, I really enjoyed the vast range of food choices (the beef fried rice is my favorite!) and contrary to what many users have said, I've never had a bad experience with the service at the House of Wong. The food is very reasonably priced, and especially with the American meals you get a lot (sometimes too much!) food for your money. The atmosphere is great for children, except crayons and placemats might work better to keep them occupied...I know that my wife's favorite meal is chicken chow mein, which is also excellent! Pros: Lots of food for the money, normally very efficient service Cons: Parking, music choice more

Great Chow Mein 1/24/2008

House of Wong has been a huge part of my childhood and growing up. Whenever we went to visit my grandparents in St. Paul we would stop and pick up chicken mushroom chow mein. It is the best I have ever had. Since becoming an adult and since my grandparents have passed away, House of Wong, brings back great memories every time I eat their food. They do have alot of American choices on their menu, but the food is always consistently amazing and large portions. I think people expect too much from a dining expereince, this is not a 5 star place in Downtown Minneapolis, nor do they charge crazy prices. Everything is very well priced for the portions that you do get. I am surprised by how many people who have had bad experiences! There is no other place I would rather go to for a meal than House of Wong. Pros: Huge Portions, Low prices, great food Cons: Parking, not authentic chinese ambience more

Not very good at all 1/21/2008

The service was fine, but the food itself was not very good. Also half the food on the menu was American, which was kind of weird. more

Never had a problem 10/5/2007

Wow... it's amazing how many people had bad experiences at House of Wong. I recently moved to the twin cities and I've patronized this restaurant at least 7 or 8 times. I have dined in and I've ordered take-out. The servers aren't overly friendly but I've never been treated rudely. Every time I've eaten there It's been awesome. I'm fond of the General Tsao's chicken. They give you a lot, too. I will admit though, for being a chinese restaurant, they do have a lot of American food. It does lack some ""authenticity"", but overall I would recommend it. It's ALWAYS busy... that says something doesn't it? Pros: You can usually find parking and seating right away Cons: You might have to remind the server of your dessert that comes with your meal. more

Take out only!!! 9/8/2007

I live in the area where house of wong is located so I have eaten there many times. The food is descent... Pros: Take out service works best Cons: Employess including Management are rude more

More like Perkins with a little Chines food on the menu 9/7/2007

Being that my girlfriend is Chinese, she has a high expectation of what Chinese food should be. I on the other hand love all Chinese food. Be it a buffet or something I attempt to cook at home. But we both give House of Wang two fat thumbs down! Pros: Parking & a $2 movie theater right next door Cons: Not ever an Asian food restaurant!!!!!!!! more

Horrible Cusomer Service 8/10/2007

Horrible server 5/27/2007

My wife and I recently ate at House of Wong. We chose our food from the Chinese menu and were awaiting a fun and tastey experience, until we met our server. Xue yi was her name. Xue yi was rude to us and other paying customers around us, did not keep our drinks refilled, was seen touching our food, did not let us switich from fried rice to white rice after we ordered, and did not offer us dessert that we knew came with at least one of our meals. The food was delicious, I had pork lowmein and my wife had a shrimp stir fry, but our server really ruined our dining experience. There were no comment cards where I could state my reaction to her ""service"" but I do plan to call House of Wong and inquire about her future job position working with paying customers. This woman should not be allowed to talk to customers as rudely as she talked to us and to a table near us. My wife and I have been eating at the House of Wong for 30 years and have had excellent service from all other servers, but this Xue yi did not make our dining experience fun or even pleasent. If the House of Wong had one less server, if this Xue yi no longer worked there, then everyone's dining experience would be much improved. Pros: Food selection, food taste Cons: extremely rude service from Xue yi more

Hmmmm....not so much! 9/18/2006

This restaurant came highly recommended by an older neighbor of my folks who remembered his parents getting takeout there as a young boy (it's been there 48 years this year), so we decided to try it. I ordered a specialty lo mein and the rest of the crew ordered their chicken (and other type of meat with veggies, not sure exactly) bowls - everyone agreed that it was pretty tasteless, and I was certainly not impressed with the lo mein - it was skinny rice noodles with tiny bits of shrimp, pork and veggies - and I mean tiny. Yeah, they give you a ridiculous amount, but it's not that good. Also, the lo mein came as a ""package deal"" - you had to get pie or ice cream for dessert, no substitutions (they wouldn't let me substitute an eggroll instead, for cripes' sake!). So I - and some of the others in my party - got the custard pie for the mandatory dessert, and I'm not kidding you, it tasted like there was absolutely no sugar in it, it was awful (my husband's banana cream pie was decent, though). It tasted like egg pie with all-spice on top, ishta!! But there were a lot of elderly there, so I suppose they must bland it down for them. Overall, not recommended, unless you're there with Grandma who doesn't like anything spicier than a mashed potato. Pros: Clean bathrooms and dining room, diverse selection of foods on the menu Cons: Bland, bland, bland! Very overrated. more

How I was Raised on Cantonese 8/5/2002

My first exposure to Chinese Cantonese cuisine was at the House of Wong. While I love Americanized Chow Mein, what House of Wong serves is nothing but the best in a lovely environment with friendly staff and fantastic food! more
