Maggie the owner is fantastic! I wanted a mermaid dress but fell in love with the top of an A line dress. She told me she could turn the A line dress into a mermaid dress. I was a...

This place is just one word--TERRIBLE!!!!!!!

Very friendly treatment 3/30/2011

I came across House of Brides through my sister's wedding when ordering our bridesmaids dress here, and I ended up coming back for my wedding dress since we had such a great experience with Maggie. I actually got two dresses here, one for Ceremony and a second for Reception. I've been wanting to do this when I got engaged, but was unsure if I can afford it, but Maggie made it possible. I got my alterations for both dresses done here as well. I've received very friendly treatment from my sister's wedding to mine, and recommend this place to all searching. more

Great price 3/28/2011

I got a great price on my dress, which made it all worth my while. (Watch out for a "delivery" charge.) I had to follow up a few times to find out if the dress had come in but it still arrived three months before my wedding day. My dress fit me perfectly, so I'm not sure why other people are complaining. Most wedding dresses need to be altered in some way and it's always an extra charge. Luckily, my dress only needs to fit right under the bust and we got the right size for that. The alterations are actually really cheap compared to most places. My fancy double French bustle was only $45 and she was able to press the dress for just $35, tax included. more

Maggie became the hero 3/25/2011

I went through the ultimate wedding dress saga, and Maggie became the hero of my story. After being ignored by one bridal shop, having David's Bridal mail me the wrong colored bolero, and getting in to a yelling match with another bridal salon because I wanted to call the company that makes my dress and find out what colors my dress comes in, I went into House of Brides desperate and in a panic to order my dream dress! The delivery from the company takes 12 weeks, I needed it in 5!!! Gasp! Somehow, Maggie managed a miracle, got the dress ordered, with a delivery date one week from the wedding. Not much time for alterations, but still, I was optimistic. I went in on Tuesday to try the dress on! AMAZING! There were some complicated alterations needed, but Maggie got them done in one day! And they were perfect too! My second fitting, the dress fit totally perfectly. Maggie didn't charge me any rush fees and her alterations were affordable by my standards (I do a lot of sewing, so I know how much work it is!). Thank Maggie for manifesting my perfect dream dress! I love it soooo much! I am thrilled to wear it on Saturday! more

More than adequate 3/21/2011

I was sent to House of Brides by my cousin. My wedding came about on a short notice, and knew I wouldn't be able to order one in time through 'traditional' well known bridal shops (one of which, David Bridal, never called me back when I tried scheduling an appointment). She had also needed to find her dress 'off the rack,' and said this place had quite the selection for being such a small shop, and were reasonably priced compared to other shops. I must say I have to agree. I was greeted immediately upon entering, asked what I was looking for, wedding date, and budget. I was asked to pick out of few on my own, and Maggie picked out a few for me too. After finding one that fit almost perfectly, Maggie said she would do all the alterations for free, and also gave me a solid discount on the dress to bring it into my price range. Awesome. Maggie is incredible at multi-tasking. She gave me individualized attention, as well as managing whatever questions other brides had as they came in, and questions her husband would ask regarding phone calls, etc. The shop is not covered with crystals, feathers, and lace, but it's more than adequate to get the job done. I noticed in the comments, the dressing area was mentioned as a couple curtains and a rod. It's true, but who cares? The curtains weren't open unless the person changing specifically didn't close them all the way, people couldn't see you while they walked around on the sidewalk. If someone expects a bridal suite as a changing area, they can always book appointments at Kleinfeld's. I bet a few of these reviews were written by bridezillas, with expectations way out of their own abilities. This place may not have all the frills one might expect while wedding dress shopping, but if you're not a woman that's looking to spend over $1000 dollars on your dress, this is a place that shouldn't be passed up. more
