Hopewell House/hospice

I have a very dear friend in Hopewell House and I am so greatful for the care he is getting. This is the 4th person we have been there for and each time we learn something new. We know that the passing of family or friend is part of life but the people there are so reasuring, so calm and a part of the family when you need them.\r I would recomend this place to anyone. My father was transported here from OHSU from a sudden neurological event that doctors said he would not recover from. Our family was devestated and we were met at the door by a warm and loving staff that made us comfortable and made us tea. They were kind and loving to my dad.. Moving him and helping his breathing and keeping him comfortable. They doled out the morphine as often as we asked and also gave him anti anxiety medication in his last hours. We were only there for two days.. The worst two days of my life.. But the staff kept my very large family fed and let us all sleep there so we didn't have to leave dads side. These folks are Angels and my father passed in a very loving and peaceful place surrounded by family. more

My friend just passed away here. it was terrible, she spent the last 2 weeks of her life here in pain. I'm a pharmacist and I know that hospice usually is aggressive in pain management. It is not so here. I knew that my friend's pain could have been treated but the providers here were unwilling to do so. I had to fight for the family to get her increased pain relief, and even that took a long time. There was never a good reason for not treating her pain. My friend was tough. When she mustered the strength to tell the nurse she was at a 10 in pain (the worst pain imaginable) the nurse looked at her and said, ' it doesn't look like you're at a 10' . She was at a 10 for 2.5 hours and it took the intervention of another hospice program to finally get my friend the medication she needed. And that was only one example out of many. In my friend's words 'it's excuse after excuse'. Don't ever go here if you have a friend or family member in pain. Some of the staff here was good, some not so much. The many volunteers were very nice. This place broke my heart. more

I had never heard of Hopewell House until my father's doctor suggested it. I am amazed at how comforting and empathetic these people are. The setting is so peaceful and uplifting. My father received the best care available and I will be eternally grateful for the peace and serenity that my father and his family and friends felt there. It was an experience I will never forget. The respect for the dying and the concern for their pain is overwhelming to me. Thank you, Hopewell House. You have my highest respect. more

I couldn't be more pleased with my family's experience at the Hopewell House. They showed so much respect and compassion for my father, as well as the family members who came to visit. Staff offered us complimentary meals and bed space, as well as private rooms for family visits or person solace. Although the Hopewell House is surrounded by sickness and death on a daily basis, they do an amazing job of providing an uplifting and warming atmosphere for families and patients alike. There aren't enough kind words to describe my experience. I would highly recommend this place! more
