Put yourself in their place before you complain! 2/9/2009

One comment is worth a thousand words so maybe two comments will off set the other negative one. Hoosier Propane is a publically traded company and the employees must follow what is dictated to them. The account manager mentioned in the other comment does try to do the best job she can. She has a job to do and I am sure wants to keep it in these hard economic times. I have also been responsible for collection of accounts and know this can be a very unpopular "career". I have also had to deal with this same account manager and know that she does her best to help people handle their bills and allows what she calls "reasonable payment arrangements". She does address past due accounts as soon as they become past due with "friendly reminders" so the customer can pay their account in full or make those payment arrangements. I remember in my business having people claim they are paying their bill and not understand why I had to pursue each time. Yes, they paid their bill everytime BUT it was always late and drug out for weeks to months. I would try to explain what "net 30" terms meant but they felt this didn't pertain to them. I have had to make payment arrangements many times with this company and have always been treated with a curtious attitude. Why, because I followed their rules. The other comment on this account manager I feel is very unfair. I stongly believe this unhappy customer was not following the rules of "net 30" and had to be hounded constantly for their payment. I say, HATS OFF to anyone that has to deal with deliquent accounts on a daily basis. It is a hard and usually thankless job that many people should try to put themselves in our place. We really do not like to hound people for their money especially in hard economic times. But we are hired to do a job and do it to the best of our ability. Just because you are unhappy with a person for making you "follow the rules" doesn't make that person a terrible person or needing to "find another career path". My thanks for working with me! more

Avoid Hoosier Propane/Blue Flame of Albion Like The Plague! 8/9/2007

When my husband and I purchased our home, we assumed responsibility for the rental contract on our water softener. We didn't feel it was a huge deal at the time, as it was a very low payment and seemed to work well enough for the two of us. We would pay our bill a few months in advance, unless we were falling behind, and then we'd pay every other month...which started out just fine. We never received any phone calls or harassing letters at all. The company was purchased by Hoosier Propane, and things went down hill very quickly (by this time our account was current and we were paying a couple months at a time). The account manager would never call us when there was a problem with our account or if they had trouble receiving our payments. We would submit the payments through our bank (online) and it would clear. The next week we would receive nasty letters telling us our account was delinquent and we owed twice as much. The day after we'd receive these letters, we would usually receive a statement reflecting our the correct balance. Recently we received notice that they were terminating our contract because we haven't been paying our bills in a timely manner. The account manager sent us a nasty note indicating they were coming to pick up the softener and we'd have to pay for the entire unit should they determine it wasn't in good condition (these things look like they are from the 70's). Today my husband called our local branch office to discuss this with them, and we found out a lot of negative things regarding the Albion office. The current account manager has been known to lock people out of their propane tanks for being a day late on their payment. She is only to send the letters out when the account is 60+ days behind, not two days. She never makes phone calls - I can only assume because she knows what she is doing is wrong and isn't brave enough to confront her customers. If you have a choice, avoid this company - I feel bad for saying that since the Syracuse office was helpful, but the account manager is based in Albion...she should seriously reconsider her career path! more
