This is the best yarn shop/knitting store in and around Columbia. Maureen carries a great selection of high-quality yarns and she's been knitting since she was a child. She knows her stuff, inside and out. She also does custom knitting and makes needle-point Christmas stockings, but her waiting list is REALLY long. She also has a huge stash of discontinued yarns so if you don't see what you're looking for, ask her and she may pull it out of her magic bag! She carries the most current, trendy yarns and the old standbys. She has a great selection of sock yarns and lace-weight yarns. The store is only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11 to 3, and call ahead to make sure she's open before you make a long trip. The best selection of incredible yarns in Columbia is in this shop. From the newest to the old tried and true brands from around the world - and if they don't have it she'll find it for you. Colors, textures, different blends of fiber that overwhelm me every time I visit. Some of the yarns are more expensive than what the typical American knitter/crocheter is used to paying BUT the quality is there and if you have a problem with something you purchased all you have to do is tell her about it and she will take care of it. Maureen and her staff have YEARS of experience which they share generously with anyone - even non-clients. They get involved in community knitting projects. Maureen has the best selection of yarn anywhere! She has really good sales in January and July. The shop is only open Thursday through Saturday, so call before you go there. more

Read the first review and I beg to differ about the prices. You find QUALITY yarns that you cannot find elsewhere, and the prices are at or below the internet sites carrying the same product before shipping. I can go to the chain craft stores for prices, but if I'm going to spend the time to hand craft a garment there is nowhere else in Columbia who carries or will order precisely what I need. This place is a crafter's dream: lots of beautiful yarns, cross-stitch patterns galore, and little old ladies willing to help you check out. When I dropped by with some friends, we were overwhelmed with the yarns--although expensive, some of the skeins were *amazingly* gorgeous. (I bought two. I couldn't help it.) Even more fun: the ladies were spinning their own yarn! The demonstration was fascinating. The prices are a bit high, but there are the occasional good deals. Highly recommended! PROS: Gorgeous yarns! Fun staff! CONS: A bit pricey at times. more
