Hoodland Thriftway

I have not been in the Thriftways of welches for a long time. My nephew and I were on our way back to Bend and we decided to stop in for some snacks. I was very impressed with the large amount of pumpkins they had set up, in and outside of the store. As we came in the front double doors there was a huge arrangements Pumpkins and bails of Hay, just very inviting. the man setting up the pumpkins asked if we needed anything, my nephew said ""Uncle"" we need Pumpkins"" so my nephew started pointing and the man helped us select the ones my nephew wanted. My nephew asked the man if he would take a picture of me and him in front of the indoor Halloween set up. the man said he would love to and too a picture of me and my nephew. Thank you Thriftway for making my nephew's last Halloween his best. He passed away October 17th. more

My family and I were passing through the Welches area on the way to Sunriver. We saw a large banner saying,BBQ. As we pulled in I was suprised to see an out door BBQ and a Seafood display outside the main entrance to the store. We were over taken by the smell of ribs on the BBQ. As I purchased my order of ribs, my wife was observing the seafood display. The young man was telling her how to cook the Salmon he was selling. As I took my first bite of the ribs, my senses were overwhelmed with, the best tasting ribs I have ever had in my whole life. I complemented to two gentlemen on a job well done. Before I knew it my wife had purchased two Salmon and a dozen oysters! As I approached the man, his name tag said Seven, I asked him if they would make the trip to Sunriver, he assured me they would, so we went inside and bought the seafood. Four hours later we were in Sunriver preparing our seafood dinner exactly as Seven suggested. As my kids said, WOW. Best oysters and Salmon we have ever had. We travel a'lot we did not expect to get served some of the best meals we have had on our trips as a family, from a little Thriftway store in a small town in Welches OR. We will be back next summer. more

I have been to this store on and off for the last 12 years. I must write this review because of the new changes that I have witnessed; that have taken place within the last 12 months. First, most all, of the staff wear full complete matching uniforms. they all seem to be very knowledgable of thier products they carry. The store used to be dirty and unorganized, inside and outside. The store is now in a 180 degree change over. there is now no clutter or garbage antwhere, inside and out. The beer and wine section is more extensive and refined, an entire knew area has been constructed. The display is of a high array with competitive prices with stores in the Portland metro area. The produce and deli departments are fresh and appealing. The meat section is the same, the butcher is a nice mature man. The men in the produce section make you glad you came in, very courtious and friendly. The management must have changed from a year ago, Its an entirely different shopping experiance then the last 11 years. I would encourage any one taking a family vacation to the Mount Hood region to explore the new Welches Thriftway. more
