Update: (May, 2010) unfortunately, they are closed now, told they had a fire but will renovate/reopen (per sign on the door) Look forward to them coming back soon!! I have been a customer for nearly 9 years here...the Best takeout and the NICEST Family that runs it (a truly amazing story how well their sons have done!!) But I called yesterday and phone # deactivated...I moved recently so not up there yet to see for myself...can only hope it was a phone error...this place is BY FAR the best takeout (...now having tried some closer ones to Darien...yuck) Pros: Top Quality/Nicest family owned estab. Cons: I am afraid they may have closed!! more

An oasis on Main Street. 1/1/2007

I came in not knowing what to expect. Situated on a busy intersection on Main St. in a old brick building, it's easy to pass by the restaurant thinking that it's just another one of the thousands of low quality, cookie cutter Chinese restaurants that pop up everywhere. Admittedly, the name isn't too flashy, but that's the exactly the point. The little family-run restaurant does not try to sell itself as one of the new hip pan-asian restaurants nor does it try to lure customers with extravagant decor. Instead, they try to let their food speak for themselves. For starters, the appetizers are so appetizing that they can stand for meals on their own. Try their juicy fried dumplings or their barbecued spare ribs and you'll see what I mean. They have their traditional chicken w/ broccoli and pork fried rice (which are done quite well, I might add), but look towards the middle of the menu in the chef's suggestions. Their Sesame Chicken and General Tso's Chicken are unparalled in Norwalk. The crunch of the crispy breaded chicken combined with the explosion of what seems like ten different flavors when you put it in your mouth is truly an experience. If you want to be adventurous, try various dishes with black bean sauce or their spicy szechuan sauce. They have seasonal specialities up on the wall that are definitely worth trying as well. In addition, the prices are ridiculously cheap for the quality and amount of food they offer. There aren't many problems except that sometimes it gets extremely busy and the restaurant gets packed, so food might not come out as quickly as one might want it, but I would say that is a testament to the quality of their food. Seriously, don't get fooled into those fancy Asian restaurants that try to hide the quality of their food with the "artsy" dim lights; try Hong Kong Kitchen and you won't regret it. Pros: The Food! Cons: None more
