This Studio Rocks! 3/14/2008

I recently moved ot Santa Monica and am so pleased to have found Home Simply Yoga!! This studio has such a peaceful presence and remarkable energy! I have a couple injuries and the instructors work with me very individually to insure that I am safe and helping my injuries heal rather than making them worse. The teachers here are incredibly knowledgeable. I can tell the teachers are chose very wisely for there experience, knowledge, positive energy and desire to help. And they are eco-friendly!! more

Real yoga and the feeling of community do still exist in Santa Monica! 2/18/2008

No wonder this place is called Homesimplyyoga! The name really does say it all: the warm and welcoming staff, the caring and incredibly knowledgeable teachers that are so ready to give you their time even after class, and even the students themselves (very open minded and talkative!) - they all contribute to a very homey atmosphere. What is provided here really is simply yoga: no fuss, no annoying marketing slogans that overstimulate your brain cells right as you walk in, no one trying to convince you to buy something you really do not need. You really get the feeling that the people behind this studio live yoga as a lifestyle - and made a commitment to pass this on to whoever enters their doors. \r I am a yoga instructor myself and therefore have been to countless studios in the LA area - and I can honestly say I haven't come across any other studio that conveys the tradition of yoga in its essence quite the way homesimplyyoga does.\r Known as an asthanga studio only, I am amazed to see the variety of classes they are offering these days. From top notch flow, to Iyengar-style to vinyasa krama and even Kundalini - they offer almost everything in the wide range of yoga styles.\r And of course, needless to say this is still the number one studio if you are an Ashtangi. Pros: All green studio!!!! And you get a nice bathroom read with their eco quiz deck they so conveniently placed there. You'll defenitely turn green after that;)! Cons: Parking can be a bit challenging at peak times, but I almost always find something on 7th if 6th doesn't work. more

Amazing Staff. Incredible Energy, Harmonious Environment. 2/16/2008

I had had prior experience with yoga, but I took my 1st real class here, in August of 2007, and I'm glad i did! I've practiced with teachers, and owners of Home Simply Yoga, Gary and Melissa, and they truly give all of themselves to you. They radiate with warmth, and love, and go to your pace, while still pushing you because they sinceraly believe in you and your abilities, even when sometimes, you do not. I was also very pleased to see that is a REAL GREEN STUDIO!\r Organic towels and reused materials are just a few of the items that make this studio ""Green"".There is a peacful area with a beautiful waterfountain, just outside the studio, to hang out and chat before or after class, and the desk staff is always ready to assist your needs and concerns!\r If you are new to yoga, I would suggest Home Simply Yoga. This is sinceraly a unique and special experience that is irreplaceable to anything else!\r \r \r more

Yoga in it's purest form!!! 2/15/2008

I am a beginner to Yoga and took my first class last Monday. I was SO impressed w/the facility and the homelyness of the staff and enviroment. The floor board is a heated dark wood and all the materials (ie. toilet paper, tissue paper, garbage bags, hand towels) are recycled. It truly is a green space which is such an important factor if you're practicing w/those who practice peace. The teacher's name was Beth and it was an All Levels class. She was very soothing for my first class and made sure that I was doing the correct poses and forms. The cool thing was that she wouldn't single me out, if she saw me doing something a bit off or a confused look on my face she would speak to the entire class as if it could be anyone in the class needing assistance. I've heard of yoga works and it sounds like a yoga machine whereas HSY is a school. I know class sizes @ yoga works are fairly large and at HSY they are kept small so that you don't get lost in a sea of people, so that they can help you grow and reach further.\r I came out amazed that I had just spent two hours stretching and breathing, releasing and resting. It truly was a rest for my mind and I will definitely continue practicing there! Pros: IT'S A GREEN FACILITY!!! Cons: Parking is a bit difficult on certain evenings, and it's an interesting find on 6th- there's a sign but you have to really look more

Like Home 2/2/2008

Coming to this studio made me want to be involved in any way possible. I wanted to prolong my conversations and be an integral part of the ""family"" that is HSY. So, I got a desk job. Gary and Melissa are my family. And, because of them others are my siblings. Through the friends that I have at the studio I have explored and grown spiritually and otherwise. I have tried things I would have been afraid to try. I have met people that encourage me with their joy and passion for life. Melissa is a wonderful instructor, and I feel that she has my best interest in mind, and not my ego. I invite anyone to stop by and stay awhile. Feel welcome to have tea or talk to me, I would love it! more

Feels Like Home 4/7/2007

I love this studio and am very grateful to have been able to practice here. The owners, Gary and Melissa, are wonderful and treat you like family. The teachers are superb and give you very personalized instruction. The other students quickly become familiar faces. The studio is very welcoming and has a neat variety of classes that aren't available at the standard LA studios. The place is cozy with beautiful dark hardwood floors - its aesthetics inspire me to have a good practice every time I walk through the door:) Pros: Wonderful Teachers, Very Personal, Beautiful Studio, Free Street Parking more

Simply Incredible 12/15/2006

There's something magical about Home Simply Yoga. From the minute I walked through the gate and saw the stone fountain in the courtyard, I began to feel the love and care that the owners Gary and Melissa put in this studio. The interior is simply beautiful, both in form and substance: I was amazed to learn that the studio is environmentally sustainable. Needless to say, my first impression was warm and welcoming.\r \r None of that has changed. I was lucky enough to begin practicing at Home soon after it opened, and I can't imagine going anywhere else. The level of teaching is sophisticated and personalized - rather than have a script read at you, each teacher I've had at Home gave me individualized instruction and adjustments. There's a connection you develop to the teachers there, that frankly, I've failed to find anywhere else. There's also a lack of ego in the room that's liberating. Everyone is focused on their own practice, and in the words of teacher Dominic Corigliano, the energy in the room is ""vital and strong."" more

The Real Deal 5/25/2006

""Home"" absolutely lives up to it's name. I have been practicing Yoga for 22 years and everytime I practice at ""Home"" I find new ways to improve as I am kindly attended to by seasoned experts on minor adjustments. They also focus on the beginning practicioner with the same amount of focus and attention to detail. In addition to the expert instruction, the owners were equally attentive while designing Home's spacious and warm layout. The flooring and the lighting are magical and contribute to the comfortable and inspiring energy that encourages me through every practice. I find that the people and practice at ""Home"" are unique to the Yoga industry today - which has unfortunately become such an impersonal business in my experience. This treasure has become truly my ""Home"" away from home. If there were more local merchants like ""Home"" in Santa Monica, real estate prices might climb higher! Pros: yoga expertise, personal instruction, beautiful space more

Hidden Gem... 5/21/2006

OK...so this place rocks...best i've been too so far. The teaching is superlative. Mysore setting allows a ton of personal attention. The Teachers don't turn yoga into some freakin' spin, jazzercise or taebo class. I've gained more appreciation and awareness since i started practicing at Home. Very intimate...my avg. class has 10-20 people in it...not 75+ like i was used too. Everyone is super nice....A very eclectic and cool crowd that have this whole ""buddy/family"" thing going on. On the down side, its probably one of the more expensive places around and parking can be a pain (i'm lazy, so even walking 1 block in LA can be a turn-off for me) but those ""issues"" are easily overcome with the quality of everything this place offers. Oh yeah...the facility is the nicest yoga studio i have ever been to. Really has to be experienced to be appreciated. Pros: Teachers, Attention, Facilities Cons: Parking, Premium $ more

Wow! Truly a Home! 5/10/2006

I'm relatively new to yoga and have been looking for a comfortable place to learn and continue to grow in my practice. The experience at Home was exactly what I was looking for. First off, the space is stunning. Apparantly it is the first green studio in socal. The studio is warm and welcoming. There is a beautiful peaceful garden area outside to relax before or after practice. I'll tell you, I've been all over Santa Monica studios and there is no place like Home. I almost want to keep it to myself, but the owners/instructors are so great, I want them to do well. Can't recommend it highly enough! Pros: beautiful space, great instructors, reasonably priced more

Individualized attention in a gorgeous new space. 5/10/2006

This green yoga studio is heven on Earth! I don't consider myself a ""yogi"" but that might change after experiencing some classes here. The teachers are wonderful and they really understand how to teach individuals at all levels. The classes are small, intimate and individualized. The space is GORGEOUS and very comfortable! I never thought I would become a ""yoga junkie"" but I have to say that I have started to plan my days around making it to a class. Pros: Great Teachers, Small Classes, Gorgeous Space Cons: Street Parking more
