Terrible Service 2/25/2009

I have been to this restaurant a number of times because I love the sushi and the saki coctails. However each time the service has been horrible, even when you sit at the bar. The wait staff is so busy talking amongst themselves they have no time to bring you food, ask if want drinks, etc. Sad! Pros: Good Sushi rolls and Saki coctails Cons: The terrible wait staff more

Great food and locale, unpredictable service 10/24/2007

The rolls are divine. All their rolls are delicious and I especially like one that's a California roll baked with crab on top, yum! I also love their dinner bento box! Even though I go there about twice a month, I know to not expect great service. The bus boys steal the show as far as service and the waiters/waitresses are totally clueless. When Mr. Hiro is there the service is WAY better. Despite this, it's definitely worth going there for the food and the location itself is quite nice. Pros: Best sushi in Petaluma Cons: Service could improve more

Okay sushi, very strange service 8/20/2007

Been here twice, once for luch at the bar and then for dinner in the dining room. We seem to have had two servers for lunch, neither of whom seemed to realize we needed to place and order and kind of floated around two feet in front of us while we waited for them to make eye contact. Once we got our food, we had to ask for chopsticks and napkins. I cannot remeber the food to save my life! Second time, we got seated and were delivered water promptly. Then we sat for about fifteen minutes and got up to leave when someone rushed over to reseat us and took our order. The tempura was quite good, less oily and massively battered than most, the rolls were smaller than the usual- which I like, as Godzillian portions are the court of last resort of most mediocre restaurants. I couldn't find the ""interesting"" rolls that I've heard in the buzz but I am perhaps a bit jaded by the hundred of sushi places I've visited since my days at USC. Pros: Minimalist interior, good sake list more

Good Sushi 10/30/2006

Great food, both their sushi and dinners are good. It is a nice atmosphere also, nicer than any other sushi place in town (they have white linens). The only draw back is that they don't have fresh crab for their California rolls. Some of the servers are a bit young and immature, but over all, they are fine. The food is good though and I return again and again. Pros: sushi, ambience Cons: service more

service spoiled experience 3/23/2006

The food was excellent, but the service spoiled it. We sat at the sushi bar and the sushi chefs ignored us to the point that we could not get there attention. There was only one other couple at the bar so it was not an issue of being lost in the crowd. We flagged down the hostess/waitress, but not until we waited for her to put the book down that she was reading. The appetizers and salad did not show up and had to be asked for after our sushi was served. more

Thank you Hiro-San 2/5/2006

Hiro's is the only sushi restaurant that I take my family to in Petaluma. The owner has alway's take great care of us, the food is great, I have not had a dish that I didn't like yet or dessert. ( try the cheese cake ) Pros: The owner, ambience, sake Cons: parking, expensive, service more

Not worth the hour drive from SF... 1/21/2006

because of the HORRIFFIC service!!!! Our waitress could barely get our order right & never checked on our table even though the tables on each side of us were being serviced by the same waitress. One of the tables sat down 20 minutes afterwards & got 3 appetizers while we waited for our food. We ordered an appetizer & 4 rolls. After 45 minutes of waiting, we had to walk out. The only thing the managers/owners could do was let us walk out dissatisfied & apologized once. Instead, we found a Vietnamese restaurant down the street with a delightful wait staff. If you live in SF, there are plenty of AWESOME sushi places IN TOWN!!!! Cons: BAD service, Loud, Small portions more

One of the best restaurants in Petaluma 7/12/2005

Fantastic, high-end Japanese food at reasonable prices. Like many sushi restaurants, the bill can add up when ordering lots of single nigiri pieces and rolls, but they offer great deals on combination sushi dinners, and really impressive bento box lunches. The $11 super bento box lunch is the best deal in town. One of my favorite restaurants in Petaluma, let alone the entire county. more

Impressive! 11/29/2004

After just moving from SF, I am so excited to find a quality sushi restaurant in the downtown Petaluma area. The atmosphere is lovely, the staff is super-friendly and the food is extraordinary. This is some of the freshest tasting sushi I've sampled and the chocolate wonton for dessert was incredible. more

New Favorite 5/26/2004

I have been to Hiro a few times now and I have enjoyed it every time. The decorating is modern and elegant, and check out the sink in the lady's room! ok back to the food...i have had appetizers and sushi there as well as some great saki cocktails. If you're into those i would recommend the ""Aphrodisia."" This is Japanese restaurant, not strictly sushi. Their selection of special rolls is limited, so it's a good place to go if you are a sushi lover having dinner with someone who can;t stomach raw fish. This place can get kinda pricey, but if you have the money to spare it's worth it! Pros: sushi, saki cocktails, atmosphere more
