Editorial review from Citysearch 2/17/2013

We had reservations for 7:15, but were not seated for nearly a half an hour. We had to wait with all of the other unhappy, over-crowded, standing guests in the small entrance area with no seating. We were all subject to the freezing cold air and wind each time the front door opened. We were finally seated by a overly hurried hostess and were greeted by our waitress within 5 minutes. Let s just say that she was not a joy to be around either. We immediately sensed her discontent and tension. We ordered our drinks and waited 30 minutes for 2 pieces of bread and no butter. We had to ask for the butter and were brought 2 small pads, which took another 5 minutes to get. After finally ordering our dinner, it took over 2 hours for our food to arrive and it was served cold. My husband ordered a steak with potatoes and asparagus. The steak and potatoes were cold and the asparagus was missing. The waitress returned to the kitchen to get the asparagus and returned with a dish of lukewarm (wait for it.....) asparagus as well. I ordered a steak and lobster tail. The lobster tail was warm, not hot and my steak was cold to the touch. We sent our food back. After a few bites, we just couldn't eat the cold food. What a disaster! The waitress was just lackluster and vacant when we spoke with her. No one made any attempt to alter the bill, console us or even show any concern at all. She simply stated that the kitchen was backed up and that they had overbooked for the night. We paid $147 for food we did not eat. The 20% gratuity was added onto our bill though. (OF COURSE) The waitress looked bothered as if she did not want to be there the entire time we dealt with her. We will NEVER eat there again. Overpriced for poor service and cold food!!!! Who knows what the food really tastes like when it s hot!!!! HORRIBLE!!!\r \r The waitress also explained to us that the normal ticket turn around is usually an hour for food. So, two hours was not that bad considering how busy they were!!!! I shouldn't have to wait an hour for cold food either!!!!!\r \r We were there on Valentine s Day and noticed an entire dining room of not-so-happy diners trying to make the best of their evening. It was all around ridiculous. NEVER NEVER AGAIN!! more

Sunday Brunch Amazing! 1/8/2012

Just experienced the Sunday Brunch at the Hilltop House today for the first time. It was absolutely amazing! Friends of ours have been telling us about the Hilltop House for a long time now and we finally decided to try it for ourselves today. Why did we wait so long to go??? This is our new Sunday destination! It was just great and we are going to tell every one that we know! See you guys next Sunday! more

Delicious Dinner! 1/8/2012

My husband and I had some frriends visiting from out of town and decided to take them to the Hilltop House. They were amazed that Fayetteville had a restaurant like this in town. They thought we only had chain restaurants! To our delight dinner was delicious. We started with the Seafood Macaroni and Cheese and it was plenty for the four of us. Entrees were absolutely delicious and presented beautifully! The finale was simply the best cheesecake I have ever put in my mouth. Our friends can't wait to visit us again so we can take them to the Hilltop House again! more

Food and service superb! 2/4/2011

My husband and I are regulars to the Hilltop House. As often as we go, I just had the seafood macaroni and cheese for the first time. In one word: Awesome! I'm not even a huge macaroni and cheese fan normally, but this was the best version of a classic that I have ever tried. Service is great, and they have the best bartender in town. We suggest the Hilltop House to all of our friends, and anyone else looking for something a little different in town. more

Hilltop just gets better and better... 2/4/2011

Just when you think you have found the perfect restaurant (fine dining, beautiful private dining rooms, immaculate service, Sunday brunch), the Hilltop House goes and adds live, interactive dinner theater to their resume. A week or so ago, my husband and I had stopped in for our usual Saturday night reservation and couldn't help but notice one of the dining rooms looked to be having a particularly good time. What initially caught our eye was the craps table (yes, like in a casino) and after a bit of nosing our server informed us that they were having one of their ""Murder Mysteries"". From what I understand, its an interactive game where everyone has a character (complete with personality traits and a back story) and at some point there is a murder. Its up to everyone, including the murder victim, to try and piece the clues together and figure out who the murderer was. Of course, its the Hilltop House so a gourmet five course meal was presented, and what we were able to see looked as spectacular as you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. We are already trying to make reservations for the next Murder Mystery and hope to see you there as well! more

Perfectly Pleasant Evening 9/14/2010

My wife and I had a civil ceremony at the Courthouse and being military (not from here) we just had both sets of parents with us. My mom went on line and found this restaurant which turned out to be exactly what we wanted! Even without a reservation, they made us feel like royalty. The food was superb, waitstaff exceptional and our overall experience was as my wife says ""perfectly pleasant"". Kudos! I will recommend it to everyone I know! more

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! 3/6/2009

This place is horrible! I don't know who these people think they are or where they think they are, but this place is absolutely hideous. My wife and I have never experienced such poor service and absolute disgusting behavior from the owner. Do not go here! Pros: i guess its all fayetteville has....raleigh is worth the drive Cons: seriously? Too many too mention. more

great service food and wine 6/18/2006

The restaurant is under new ownership and is amazing. They have an executive chef and a sommelier working there now. Their wine list is one of the best in the Fayetteville area. The chefs dishes are delicious. Stuffed pork chops, salmon, crab cakes and other are topped with his fresh made sauces. They even have an herb garden outside for fresh herbs on their dishes! The service was excellent. Great place to relax and enjoy your evening more

Horrible and highly overrated 1/16/2006

This was by far the worst dining experience of my life. I expected this restaurant, by its ratings, to have an experienced chef, a classy environment, and wonderful service. It was the total opposite. The steak was cooked horribly ( I could have had a better steak at Golden Coral). The gravy on the steak tasted like the dried (add water) gravy that comes out of a packet. The potatoes were instant. The food was just slopped on the plate like it was some buffet. The bread was like bricks. The caesar salad was made like a house salad and wasnt tossed with the dressing like it should have been. The dressing came out in plastic cup and it tasted horrible. Wendy's has a better salad on their .99 menu. The customer service & environment was just as bad. more
