We had a very unfortunate seating experience. We were seated at the worst table in the entire place- right between the bar and the restaurant, facing a wall. There shouldn't even be a table there! \r \r I hate to be a ""negative Nancy"" but here goes: the complementary bread was not fully cooked and we sent it back, asking for a different batch. We never got it. The service was impossibly slow. We waited for 75 minutes from the time we sat down until our entrees came! We ordered a side of asparagus that came a bit undercooked with no seasoning or preparation at all. I'm pretty sure they were simply steamed and placed on a plate. The house salad was good but the lettuce was chopped up really small which was a bit unusual. The rice in the risotto was still hard. We had creme brulee for dessert and it was a very petite serving with an odd presentation. The ramekin was wrapped in a black napkin, the top was completely covered in raspberries and the sugar below was too burned.\r \r \r The good news is the steak was cooked perfectly. The beef tips were well-prepared and served in a hot skillet. They were a bit spicy but that worked for us! The swordfish was delicious; if only there had been more of it. \r \r Check out our restaurant blog at \r decadentdetroit.blogspot [dot] com\r \r \r \r \r more

Don't bother 9/11/2009

The carpets in there are beyond FILTHY. I have been there many times and have seen the bussers toss plates and bread onto the tables as if irritated. The smoke level from the bar is atrocious. more

RE: Service problems; Dirty carpets 10/15/2008

In looking through the reviews on CitySearch, I was quite surprised to read the one about The Hill Seafood & Chophouse regarding service problems and dirty carpets. My wife and I have been to this restaurant repeatedly and have never experienced either of these issues. In fact, when I showed the review to my wife she actually recalled being there on the night in question. Why? Because we were sitting in a nearby booth and were extremely annoyed by the patron's obnoxious behavior and repeated yelling at the staff! If I recall correctly his name was Norman, he was quite rude, and he made a ridiculous statement about being from California so he expected a level of service on par with what he's used to. There was a woman at the table who even told him to stop behaving so poorly and when Norman left the table the other guests made comments about his behavior because they were annoyed. The manager and server were extremely gracious and level-headed. Although, I did see the busser toss some things on the table, I did not notice any other service problems. Nor did I notice the restaurant to be unclean in any way. It was extremely busy that evening, so perhaps there were bits of food on the floor due to the high volume of patrons, but there were no stains on the carpet or anything of that nature. And I have to wonder about the severity of the porterhouse issue given that it was Norman's dinner. Pros: Food, service and ambience Cons: High smoke level in the bar more

Service Problems, Dirty Carpets 6/15/2008

A long time local favorite location for Grosse Pointers dating back to the Bronze Door days. Always known for good chops back in the day. I recently joined a party of 9 in this newly remodeled establishment for a 80th birthday celebration on June 11, 2008, please let me share with you my experience.\r 1. Friendly Server, she let us know, she previously taught school children, very patient and attentive. :)\r 2. Goofed on the porterhouse order > Overcooked. This was the only mistake out of ten orders. :(\r 3. The porterhouse order was redone and returned to the table long after everybody else finished. :(\r dinner ruined for this guest and was packaged for later dining.\r 4. The Server was kind enough to have our brought in cake sliced and served :)\r 5. Table busing proceeded to literally throw dessert plates and silverware at guests in our party. :(\r Never has this happened to me before at a so called fine dining establishment.\r 6. The management comped the porterhouse dinner and two drinks. :)\r more

UNBELIEVABLE DINING EXPERIENCE 3/19/2007

The food here is superb, the service is perfect, the wine list is always the best. I love the Northern beans you get with bread before the meal. The gazpacho you can get instead of the salad is really good also!! This will always be one of my top favorite restaurants in Michigan by far. It is a must try at least once! Pros: Everything!!! more

Simply to die for........ 11/2/2002

Without a doubt the best cullinary experience in the metro motown area. Being a bit of a local celeb chef, I heartily endorse all of the offerings at The Hill. The chops are cooked to perfection and the Hill Swordfish Steak brings me back to New England. The wine list continues to amaze me, and please do your self a favor and request the dessert menu--I myself was very naughty and two:) more

Lucy's asked that local families donate photographs to be used in the design of the restaurant. The result: Photos taken right from albums are shellacked onto tables and hung on walls. The effect: a very clubby, Grosse Pointe-style tavern-restaurant. Low lights and a fireplace warmly illuminate cozy tables. The sandwiches and burgers are great. The specials are ordinary American fare: steaks, fish fillets and pastas. Dive into some ice cream and hot fudge for dessert.
