he seems like a good doctor, but it seems like each and everytime i go there its more and more money,i saw a different doctor on a recent visit she looked like a kid,she took my dog in the back for a special "test" i was charged for that, i found out from a retired vet that they looked @ my dog in the back with a flashlight,i think that is wrong on every level,my animal doesnt seem to be getting better just sicker,i wish i would have went to another personal vet,its more like there a # here then a beloved animal, would i recommend them, absolutley NOT,the girl who takes your money the "fake blond" is an absolute redneck that should be spayed she has no compassion im sorry! more

they saved our pup 3/28/2011

Recently had an emergency with my dog that I have had for 6 years. It was on a Saturday and there was no other vet open. My boyfriend took our "baby" in and the vets noticed right away that she was verysick. They gave the prognosis to us very bluntly, hard to take in but glad thy did it that's way, she was very close to dying and needed emergent surgery!!! We left her there wondering how we were going to pay for everything.... we gave them a down payment and they decided to cut us a break and not charge us the "emergency" fee. Not onlywere they very nice when we called every couple of hours to check on how our pup was doing but they were available on Sunday night at 10 pm for us to walk in and spend some time with her. The back room was very clean... the techs are pretty young but very nice and learning how to be professional! There love for the animals however was without a doubt there! They were organizing for the next day... and were raving about how good of a dog she was!!! They re more

Save your beloved pets!! 11/21/2010

I had the displeasure of being one of Highlands employees. I ignored the abuse and disrespect of my boss and owner, George Jutris, as did everyother employee. Not only did I work full time for over a year but I went in on my days off to cover shifts. Almost every pay check was shorted. Debbie, the office manager, wha has the mentality of a high school student would lose records and take a month to make it right. It didn't take long for everybody to know they had to keep their own records. The hospital charged customers according to what kind of clothing they wore. Many times customers were charged for procedures never rendered. If you pay attention the turnover of employees are as horrific as the turnover of the vets themselves. I witnessed hundreds of animals in isolation be brought to the back kennel area because they were barking and or crying and George dosn't want to hear any noise! I also witnessed horrific surgical procedures, by Dr. George himself, rushing through as fast as h more

Excellent experience 4/5/2009

I took my dog there this morning because there was blood in his feces. This isn't our usual vet but the only vet in the area open on Sunday. \r \r My Fiancee and I were so impressed with Dr. Juntas that we decided on the spot to make him our dogs new vet. \r \r Competitive prices, excellent service (by the tech's and by the Dr.), and friendly staff make this animal hospital the best in the area. I will be going back. more

I Work There 11/21/2008

Overall the hospital is very professional us employees ultimatly very caring and full of concern about your animals. I am an employee and I honestly have no complaint. I'm one of the one who takes care of your animal when the stay for a few nights. We walk, feed, and bathe your animals strictly and try our hardest to keep you and your animal comfortable and happy. To be honest, when we are all caught up, some of us go back to the kennels and just play with the animals. It's gotta suck when your stuck in a cage for most of the day, so we think it's important to give the animals some lovin' once in awhile!! more

HIGHLANDS IS GREAT! 11/1/2008

My family has been with Highlands for over 3 years and Dr. George and his staff are wonderful. I have 3 dogs that they take care of and I use them for all my boarding needs. I recently had my boss take her cat to be put down and George handled it, not only with the utmost professional manner, but with so much compassion for my boss and her beloved cat of 20 yrs!\r Please dont take the rantings of a few disgruntled employees. The staff and facilities, have been and always will be first class.\r Dr. George is THE most well respected vet in this county and his growing practice speaks for itself more

They're the best! 5/29/2008

I could go on and on with positive words about Highlands! I have always owned dogs and have used many vets throughout the years, and by far the staff at Highlands --- Dr George, Dr Sigman, Dr Frankenberger, etc --- get my highest praises. In our 7 years of being with them, we always received personalized, attentive service for our dogs. more

What I know! 10/20/2007

Having been an employee at highlands I'll tell you that you must keep in mind that not all "assistants" are cut out to be animal care givers. The good assistants realise their calling and go off to college to become vets or registered vet techs, while the staff that are don't do their jobs well are fired. That is the reason why you find so much worker turn over at highlands. Keep in mind that the bad reviews that "old employees" give is usually the response of one that wasn't giving the best care to your animal and was fired due the inability to work at the hospital's standards of animal care. As for Dr Jutras, he is one of the best Vet's I've ever met and I trust him with my animals to the utmost. He is also one of the best animal surgeons in Indian River County. The best advice I can give you about Highlands animal hospital is to ask for a tour of their kennels and see for yourself that Highlands really does put the animals first!P.S. Dr Sigman, Frankenburger, and Donaldson are just more

what you dont know 10/7/2007

In my opinion, if you have to use "Dr." Jutras,\r you'll be better off doing the procedure yourself with the rusty tools in the garage. \r \r "Dr." Jutras is a small man driving a large vehicle.\r The term "Napoleon" comes to mind, \r "negligent control freak" is another.\r If there are clients in the parking lot, he will whip out his cell phone and pretend he is speaking so no one can complain.\r When he goes to meet with a client, he will tell one of the staff to give him 5 minutes and then come into the room for an "emergency"\r \r I have no direct evidence but the rumor goes that he has no permit nor insurance to board animals, he gets away with this because he can keep "observation cases"\r Sometimes the hospital is so full that crates need to be utilized in the old hospital.\r More often than not, there are never enough Assistants to properly care for the animals as "Dr" Jutras demands everyone be clustered around him to fulfil his need for ultimate control. \r The employee turnover there is more

great hospital! 8/30/2007

This place is the best! Our dog had surgery here and the doctors and staff were terrific. I never hesitate to board our dog here when we're out of town; she is treated like royalty. They care for her as we do in our home. Doctors are top notch. more

Poor Surgury 5/26/2007

I had my Doberman pup spayed by a Dr. Jutris, he said she would do fine. Well a day later and all of the stiches came untied. So I brought her back in to get put back together. Now a day passed and the site was very red and inflamed. Now my dog is on antibiotics for 10 days. 14 days later it is now still red and ulcerated and raw. What is going on here?? If you bring your dog in don't let that doctor do the surgury. more

They helped my sick kitty 11/20/2005

It was during a holidy party that we noticed a large lump had formed on my kitty seemingly overnight. My regular vet was closed for the holidays so rushed our little girly over to this hospital. The staff was great even though teh diagnosis was grave. They were very good at following up to make sure that we were ok a few days later. I would bring my "kids' there again if the need ever arises. PROS: Flexible hours - good location CONS: more
