Great place for FRIDAY NIGHT JAZZ! 4/1/2011

One of my favorite places to go on a Friday night when they do they're Jazz Fridays. We usually meet up with friends here and I love going when they have a new featured artist; I loved the DALI exhibit last fall, they had a really great opening night. Great place for culture!! more

High Museum.....??? 3/12/2010

I was expecting a larger, more varied collection given that Atlanta is a beta-class world city, certainly much larger and wealthier than Norfolk or Richmond which do have reputable fine art museums. Pros: Brings in outside exhibits Cons: local collection is weak more

One of the best cultural experiences in ATL 2/25/2010

Built in the 80s as an architectural work of art itself, the High maintains a fresh, modern structure that has been considerably stepping up its game. Bringing in collections from the Louvre, works from Di Vinci, Monet, and all the other big boys along with local artists making a splash, the High is a wonderful place to cash in on once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to engage in history and art. With events such as jazz and martini nights, the High is custom tailoring its approach to the modern day clientele. Perhaps the best exhibit I have witnessed was the civil rights photography exhibit - which is what the High excels in: relevance, history, and geography. Pros: Where else in town can you see works from the Louvre? Cons: Parking is a little tricky more

Disappointed 2/25/2010

went to see Leonardo with friends and was very disappointed. The jazz was average and not enough seating. I won't be back. Pros: The bartender was great!! Cons: Not enough seating, music was average more

Date night at the High 2/21/2010

You gotta love it when the museum opens the doors ""after hours"", serves cocktails and has amazing live jazz. Mark the 3rd Friday night on your calendar and grab a date - you will both have a delightful time. Pros: something for everyone more

Great Palce 2/16/2009

Excellent service and food! The music is great with a lot of people from different places around the town, Pros: Best food and music in town Cons: Nothing! more

The High is one the best cultural experiences in Atlanta 12/1/2008

Being a native Atlantan, it is nice to see such a great Pros: Great exhibits Cons: Always a drive more

student=second class citizen 10/12/2008

I purchased the student ticket to the museum for 15$, not a bad price but not a good discount either. The ticket person told me that i could see all of the exhibits. I walked through one wing of the museum and on the 3rd floor i was not allowed into a ""members only"" area. Ok, no big deal. I finished viewing that wing and tried to move on to the next. I wasn't even allowed into the next wing!!! Again members only! What did i pay for? I was so disgusted that i left without even attempting the 3rd wing. There are no signs that i saw stating that certain areas are members only, or signs at the ticket counter stating that whole collections would not be accessible with a regular student ticket. It was embarrassing to walk through a revolving door and be told by a staff member that you aren't allowed in and must go back out immediately. I felt deceived and cheated. Pros: nice architecture Cons: poor value, deceptive marketing/ticket sales more

Classy and elegant 2/4/2008

This is one of the best events in Atlanta to go on a date, or to meet someone new. There is great music, good food and drink, and lots of great people. Look, listen, and mingle. Walk around and see the great exhibits. Have some great conversation. Very romantic. Hint: Go ahead and join the Museum as a member so you can get in free. It's worth the price and you will want to come back every month. Pros: Where Atlanta's sophisticated cultured people hang out once a month. Cons: Sometimes it can get loud from people talking and it's hard to hear the music. more

Wonderful family educational day 11/27/2007

The Louve Is Alive In Atlanta! 11/14/2006

As a long standing member of the High Museum, I'm totally blown away by the current exibit, on loan from The Louve. All the great masters are here, many have not been moved out of Paris in hundreds of years. The current expansion, and the new Anne Cox Chambers Wing, is more than outstanding. We are now a world class desination for the Arts! Bravo! Atlanta! Pros: Richard Meir Design! Louve-Atlanta Exhibit! Cons: Parking Can Be Tricky, If Driving! more

We had a blast at Friday Jazz at the High! 9/19/2006

I'm new to Atlanta and found out about Friday Jazz from a co-worker. She told me to expect to hear some great jazz music in the most beautiful space on Peachtree - The High Museum of Art. I was blown away when we got there! Beautiful people were everwhere and the jazz was amazing. I had a delicious Jazz Martini and even tried sketching a live model in one of the upstairs galleries. Finding a seat was a challenge but we just opted to stroll the galleries and take in the artwork. For $15 this is a great way to kick off your weekend and I highly recommend it! Pros: Live Jazz Music, Art & Sketching in galleries Cons: Little seating more

Noise is High = Jazz volume is low 11/10/2005

Great to see the art and folks. That is what it is for... Jazz not so sure. You can't hear the music for all the idle chatter. The more people the louder they talk to speak over others so the Jazz gets drown. Sad to say that they can not spend more on large speakers to over power the talking but the Jazz is washed out by the noise polution. If you are starving for Jazz just go early and stand right at the band to hear them. Pros: Art, Atmospher, Unique Place Cons: Noise Polution, Crowded, Acoustics more

Disappointment 5/11/2004

The exhibits are nice, the building is great, but I found the staff unhelpful and often poorly informed. I received permission at the front desk to photograph part of a special exhibit, but moments later was asked to leave because I took a photo of an Egyptian artifact. When asking questions of the staff, they were often unable to answer questions. Pros: Good price, Nice exhibits more

I am amazed this is in Atlanta!!! 2/24/2003

For a city not known for its culture, this is an incredible museum. It impresses in local art and international classical art. I had never joined a museum (or anything like it) before and was convinced that my money would be well spent at the High. For my membership I get some free passes and a few other trinkets. The passes alone are worth it. Just to be able to get in on days and times that the crowds are not (and during some big events the public does flock) is worth it. Check for student discounts and coupons, they are everywhere. more

a good cultural experience 8/27/2002

This is alot of fun for kids of all ages as well as the adults. We saw the Picasso exhibit and it was wonderful. My children were really impressed with his colorful paintings and even wanted souvenirs. more

Best Museum 8/20/2002

The High Museum is the best museum. The building itself is remarkable, not to mention all the stimulating things inside. There is something for all ages, genders, and every ethnic group. Pros: spacious, entertaining, reasonably priced more

""Two years ago my Honors Literature teacher took my class on a field trip to this wonderful museum. The thing is we went to th HIGH museum of art on 4-20. We thought that was pretty cool. I love how the stairs go around on the inside and the woman sitting in the chair exhibit was fascinating. I love this museum. It's great!"" more

Excellent 8/8/2002

Everyone in Atlanta should check out the High as well as become a member! Don't forget to check out the Member's Guild at the High (the best kept secret in Atlanta). more
