One of my favorite places to go on a Friday night when they do they're Jazz Fridays. We usually meet up with friends here and I love going when they have a new featured artist; I...

I was expecting a larger, more varied collection given that Atlanta is a beta-class world city, certainly much larger and wealthier than Norfolk or Richmond which do have reputabl...

Family Days are Not to Be Missed. 10/14/2005

My family and I have been members to this museum for some time. Parking, as with everything in the area isn't great, especially during it's renovation, so go a little early, and be prepared to drive around a little bit. Family days are well planned for children of all ages. Even if there isn't a "Family Day", make sure you go, and check out a Family Pack from the front desk. It contains a scavenger hunt, and pencil and paper for the children to sketch what they see. Just delightful. more

Great Art Museum 9/27/2005

The High Museum of Art is a beautiful art museum in downtown Atlanta. The building itself is very beautiful and makes for a good layout for the museum, as you can start at the top and then wander through the galleries, making your way to the lower level where you entered. On the ground level, there are some galleries for kids, so that they can get more of a hands on experience. The High has had many big traveling shows and they also have a good collection of their own art. There's a cafe within the building too, should you need to stop and have a snack or get something to drink. The only drawback to the museum's downtown location is finding a place to park, since there isn't a parking lot specifically for the museum. more

High Museum of Art 8/20/2005

The High Museum of Art is the strange white building on the left side of Peachtree as you're heading to Buckhead. If it looks familiar, it's because it was the home to Hannibal Lector in the movie, Manhunter. The museum is not too large currently, but does a great job bringing in interesting exhibits. It's last featuring Romare Bearden was the best I'd seen at any museum. The museum will expand in the fall of 2005 and has also announced a major partnership with the Louvre in Paris to bring a lot of that museum's collection to Atlanta. The only bad thing I can say about it is that some of the exhibits can get crowded. more
