Best Heating and Air Cond repair around 8/7/2010

We have done business with Tom for at least the last 8 years and he come highly recommended. Tom will only sell you what you need not slam with the usual ""need to replace your whole system: sales job that others will give you. \r Give him a call, you won't go wrong and be happy with the work that he does. more

Strange Experience 8/14/2009

I contacted Herner Heating & Air based on these recommendation here, ignoring the one that's obviously posted in the wrong place. I am a residential GC and do new construction and remodeling work. When I mentioned that to Mr. Herner he said he only works with homeowners - fair enough! Then I asked about a private project that I would working on in the near future, and Mr. Herner just hung up the phone. I am puzzled. Does Herner Heating & Air have a prejudice against residential builders? Even if they are ""the homeowner""? Pros: don't know Cons: don't know more

Can't recommend Tom highly enough! 8/3/2008

Tom is a former master aircraft mechanic and knows HVAC systems inside and out. He is a stickler for detail and provides old fashioned service rarely seen in contractors these days. He serviced my old, failing system (for free) and managed to extend the life for an additional 2 years. His only fee was asking me to allow him to install a new system when I needed one. He then installed 2 new systems for me (upstairs and down) which have performed flawlessly. Pros: Knowledgable, prompt, honest more

Worst HVAC service in the Triangle 6/6/2008

Service Experts of Raleigh (service and experts should have quotation marks around them) installed a complete air handler and heat pump system for us Oct. 20, 2006 to the tune of $5,375. System was ""serviced"" in Sept. 2007 and A/C failed on June 5, 2008. We called them to ask for repairs on our 18 month old system during this 5 day period of 96+ degree temps. We were told on Thursday the 5th they would be out on Monday the 9th. (!!) Unacceptable? Oh yeah. They got VERY rude when we complained and shuttled us from one ""rep"" to another and listened to their excuses ..... and we bought the system from THEM!\r \r Anyway, called Shumate HVAC in Garner (see other review on Shumate) and Albert came over in one hour and fixed the ""Service Experts"" installation flaw. \r \r I won't say all the bad things I feel towards Service Experts of Raleigh ..... but I wanted to let ya'll know that this is a sub-par outfit. Pros: Original A/C repair and install seemed to go well. Cons: Original install (apparently) did NOT go well. more

Honest, Affordable, Independently Owned HVAC Repair Company 12/7/2007

We had repairs done on both of our 13 year old Trane Gas Furnaces in \r early 2006 by Tom Herner at Herner Heating & Air,\r based in Apex. We highly recommend him.\r \r 2 other companies visited us and said we'd have to\r replace both units entirely (and they would sell us\r replacements, of course). Tom, who also sells\r replacement HVAC systems, took the time to understand\r the real issues (bad coil in both cases), and he\r replaced only what needed to be replaced. Cost was\r $1880 instead of $6000 - $10,000 for 2 new units. He\r said we should get 5-8 add'l years out of them before\r full replacement is required. \r \r Other qualities we liked about Tom:\r \r - Our heat failed on the weekend, and he came out\r on a Sunday afternoon to diagnose the problem. \r - independent owner/operator...equates to low\r overhead and the assurance he has to stand behind his\r work. (he offers a solid warranty on parts & labor)\r - took the time to really educate us about our HVAC\r systems, how to maintain them, and some of the ""tricks\r of the trade"" used by less reputable HVAC repairmen\r providers. \r Pros: Honest, Affordable, Willing to Educate Customer, Independently Owned, Very Experienced Cons: located > 20 miles away from us more
