Worth the Trip! 4/5/2012

I took my girlfriend here from Manhatten. I grew up in the area and after dinner with the family, she really needed a place to unwind. Thanks to Helmers' I might get her to come back. Plus, who doesn't love a good authentic German beer? I love the craft beer scene, but they still bow to the King of Beers--Germany, of course. Great appetizers, too! more

I hesitate giving this place a great review because it's so good I don't want the usual Hoboken fratboys ever going there and screwing it up. Excellent food, excellent beer and beer selection, great place to have a real conversation. more

  • Helmers' Restaurant in uptown Hoboken is one of the oldest restaurants in town. Opening in 1936, when the Helmer family came from Germany, and then selling in late 1940's to the Lueders from Bremerhaven.
    Helmers' is most known for its authentic German cuisine and German-style atmosphere complete with high wooden booths, beer steins and huge Bavarian cuckoo clock. Helmers' Restaurant has a quality menu with over 100 items from soups, steaks, seafood, sandwiches & of course German Speciaties like Bratwurst, Schnitzels, Sausages, Potatoes & Meat in generous portions! Open for lunch & dinner!
    Helmers' is a must-visit this Oktoberfest. Every Thursday we have live music, giveaways, & beer specials. Every Friday has live music, too! No German restaurant is complete without their selection of fine German beers. Helmers' has 16 beers on tap, changing each season. Join us for some fun!
