Although the dessert menu is large, many people aren't familiar with Greek dishes so stop at the Hallas Bakery in the same place and ask the staff about any item that attracts your interest. Then ask the waiter for it at the restaurant. more

Past Tense. Used to be excellent 3/27/2009

We have ea ten at the restaurant many times, and taken visitors, but on Friday 3/37/09. We were very disappointed. The salad was not at all like we had experienced before. The stuffed Grouper and The stuffed flounder had imitation Crab Meat inside. When we complained to the Manager he was very defensive and aggressive. We were not looking for free food, even though t hey offered us free dessert, we declined. Cons: False Advertising and higher prices. more

best Greek food 9/16/2008

I have to admit I haven't eaten at many Greek restaurants, but this was my first experience with it, and have found that Hella's is still the best Greek restaurant I've ever eaten at. I usually get the Pastitsio. they've had the same chef for about 12 or 13 years now, and I'll keep going back as long as he's there. my parents always get the Mousaka. we all love the food we get. one time I got the Greek spaghetti, and that was delicious too. if you're in the mood for a diabetic shock, order some baklava. it is ridiculously sweet in a good way with sugar and honey. it's the perfect way to finish a great meal. serving sizes are generous. when you get the food, it might not appear very large, but Greek food usually is very filling. the last time I was there, I weighed over 300 pounds, and could barely finish my meal. Pros: great food and atmosphere Cons: parking can be slightly difficult, but there's a parking lot across the street that you have to pay $3 for the day. more

Best Food in Tarpon Springs 5/30/2008

I read the reviews on this site and cannot understand for the life of me how anyone can say that it was no good. I am originally from NY where the Greek food is amazing but I have to honestly say that Hellas is right up there. If you had a bad experience, try it again, you will be pleasantly surprised. Pros: The Food Cons: Crowded more

Greek-American is hard to find. 5/14/2008

This is a solid mom&pop Greek (duh! Hellas means Greece in Greek) and I will return. In a world of 'benigan look-a-likes' this is a breth of fresh air. Of course it is nothing like going to Greece and eating there, but in the Southeast US this is the place to go and eat Greek (Hellas). Pros: real Greek Cons: waiters lack that 'chain store' fake smile, but the service is efficient. more

To be avoided at all costs. 2/17/2007

In all the resaurants I ever ate in all over the world, Hellas was the worst. My gyro was dry and overseasoned and the mousaka ordered was some sort of non-authentic variety with what appeared to be rice pudding on the top. Very little meat and barely a touch of eggplant. Pros: Waitress had an attitude. Cons: Worst customer service on the planet. Poor food quality. more

Excellant Greek Food 12/2/2006

This is the best Greek restaurant in Tarpon Springs. I had a birthday party for my Father-in-law and drove from Orlando to Tarpon Springs to pick up the food for the party. Emanuel told me exactly how to reheat all the dishes and it was absolutely wonderful. The service is the best and the Greek Style Shrimp is to die for. There is lots of goodies in the bakery to choose from that are delicious. Pros: Food, Service more

A top spot on Dodecanese Blvd. 11/15/2006

Hellas is among the top few Greek Restaurants on Dodecanese Blvd. It is perhaps the largest and best decorated. The food was very good. I have recommended it to friends and they gave it high marks. For someone who is only going to be in Tarpon for one day, I recommend Hellas. But is a close race with several others. Competition is stiff among Greek restaurants here so prices are right and quality is good. more

HORRIBLY OVERRATED 7/18/2006

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Huge knot of waiters stood right behind our table yelling and talking to their buddies, shouting and carrying on. My waiter couldn't tear himself away from his mates to take our order. Extremely unprofessional and disruptive during the whole meal. When I requested to move, waiter stated he had three tables and I could sit at any of the 3. HELLO MORON, I am the customer ... I can sit anywhere I want, whether or not I am in your station. THat should have been my clue, I should have got up and left right then. Pure arrogance. Cons: Moronic Unprofessional Waiter, Filth blowing down on customers from AC more

Little piece of Greece! 3/12/2006

This restaurant is fantastic. The olive oil on the table is the best there is! Loved it so much that I bought my own bottle. The service was professional and food was great! Even though I was stuffed, I found my way to the bakery next door! I highly recommend this restaurant. Pros: great food, bakery, fast service Cons: none, none, none more

Waiter's fault? 2/14/2006

Went there with a greek friend and my husband. The food was okay if it's your first time. But if you've had better before, then you'll be disappointed. I just wanna comment on the waiter. When we asked for the check, our friend offered to pay the bill, and we took care of the tip. He paid with cash. Soon, the waiter came back and asked whether anything's wrong. Then he made a remark that he didn't want his manager to think he did a bad job cause the customer didn't leave enough money for tip. My husband told him he's gonna take care of the tip and his friend asked for the change. I could see his face changed and he promptly apologized so many times. We almost didn't wanna leave tip after what happened but instead, we left him a really generous one. Cons: Waiter, Average food more

User review by stockman 7/23/2005

If there is a restaurant in the Tampa area with more Mediterranean ambiance, I haven't yet found it. This place is great. You feel like you are in Greece. The waiters are friendly yet highly professional. The portions are large and the food is quite good. For the price, it is almost hard to believe. It's one of few restaurants that lure us back often. A fabulous experience every time. Pros: ambience, Greek food, value more

The best Greek food in Tarpon Springs... 7/3/2003

Sure Pappas is good, but is geared to tourists with the ritzy feel and all.....and is overpriced. If you want the best Greek FOOD in Tarpon, with little or no frills, Hellas is it, hands down. The pricing is very reasonable, even if you visit the bakery for some take-home goodies as well. Everything on the menu is great, but the Gyros are man-sized and the best. The desserts are top-notch, since the bakery is right there within view of the dining room. I like the dining room during the day, when the street is busy, and the patio for dinner at night, when the crowds walking Dodecanese Boulevard have dwindled, lets you take in Tarpon Springs without tourists staring at you. Pros: food quality, bakery on site, no very good prices Cons: patio during day, tourist driven days more

Great Greek! 12/5/2002

I really like this restaurant. The waiters are often funny and the gyros are great. I haven't tried anything else because I love the gyros so much. I this the environment is cute because Tarpon Springs is such a nice little place. Everyone I take there loves it just as much as I do. I definitely recommend this restaurant. more
