The best bar in Ann Arbor 3/22/2010

For a great time come down to the Heidelberg. The main level dining room has an authentic German feel, and authentic Bavarian food to go along with the atmosphere. The basement bar looks like a German beer garden, they have 14 beers on tap, most of them imported from Germany. The best part is Das Boot, a 2 litre glass shaped like a boot that you can have filled with any draft beer. I have a blast at the Heidelberg and I will definately be back. Don't go here, unless you really like rude service. If you do go, order an overpriced beer from Monica, and don't tip her. I went with a group of friends. We are all mature and in Grad school at U Mich. My friend put her boot-shaped drink down on the bar after she had finished. Monical claimed that she had stolen the cup and wouldn't give my friend her credit card back without charging her $40 for a glass that she clearly did not steal. Monical then tried to pull the same trick on my two other friends. I will never go there again. more

BAD DJ AND SERVICE 6/25/2008

The 'Bar Above' is horrible. If you are intersted in OVER-PRICED CHEAP beer and CRAPPY music, please join the people upstairs. Downstairs is very fun. Once you come upstairs, though, you enter a totally differnt atmosphere where the bartenders are not friendly and the DJ judges people based on race and makes rude sexist remarks. Karakoke, in partiucluar, on Wednesday nights is an anti-non white people and sexist event where only white girls with fake breasts enter the stage. Occasionally a black girl with large breasts joins them. If at all possible, avoid the 'Bar Above' at the Heidelberg and check out any other bar in Ann Arbor where people of all races are treated with respect and dignity not found at 'Tthe Heidelberg Upstairs'. Pros: Downstairs has good food Cons: Upstairs acts like a club that doesnt really even start to fee like a real 'club' more

BARTENDER (ALSO OWNER'S WIFE) IS RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!! 10/5/2007

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. We ordered two boots $40 value of beer and the bartender wouldn't give us TAP WATER. She kept saying she was too busy with "actual" customers. I said I'd pour it myself but she wouldn't even hand me the pitcher that was sitting RIGHT NEXT TO HER. After cursing me out, she said I could go upstairs and order dinner and get my water with dinner. DON'T GO HERE!! SO NOT WORTH IT. Poor service, smokey atmosphere, and just plain old rude people. (After asking to speak to a manager, I found out this rude bartender was actually the owner!! Isn't that awful? What a way to run an establishment!!) more
