Love the cakes - worth every penny 3/20/2009

Heidelberg makes wonderful cakes! You can sample them by the slice, but be warned... once you do, you'll never want a grocery store cake again for a special occasion. We particularly love the fresh ingredients used. Real cream, fresh fruit, rich chocolate, wonderful nuts, brandy, rum, or whatever your recipie calls for... it isn't fake. Try the Black Forrest Cake, or the Obs Torte (spelling, I know... it's a fruit topped cake with custard layers, whipped cream, and toasted almonds on the outside. You'll swear you've died and gone to heaven :-) more

Good pastries 4/16/2006

One of my colleagues used to pick up pastries from Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe once a month and bring them to work. She always got me a cinnamon roll, which was absolutely to-die-for. I didn't taste many of the other pastries, since I'm a picky eater, but everything looked wonderful, and the entire office always looked forward to our once-a-month pastry breakfast! more

Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe 3/26/2006

I’ve heard a lot about this shop so visited them while on a shopping trip this weekend. The pastries I sampled here were tasty. I was not blown away by anything I sampled but the food was all of good quality. My friend who went with me has been here before and commented they have good cake. I only had a couple small items I cannot comment on their cake. more

Cute shop with good pastries - very nice people! 12/29/2005

This small shop in Arlington is situated on a cute old-school strip mall. They make all kinds of pastries, cookies, petite-fours, marzipan, mini-cakes. They also sell their products in cute ready made gift-like packages. I think they also do cakes, but I have never tasted their cakes. They have a huge variety of pastries to choose from, and even if you not buying anything, they have so many different and unique things that its even worth just going in to look around. Their prices are also very reasonable considering their location. I hope to try their cakes soon! more

Overrated buttercream cakes 12/28/2005

I heard so much about this pastry shop and it was my second stop on the wedding cake hunt. To say the least I was not impressed. I don't see what the difference was between their cakes and the giant grocery store ones. They had two flavors for us to try, vanilla and chocolate. Wow, highly creative. Maybe they have great OTHER pastries, but if you are looking for wedding cake, I wouldn’t recommend looking here. They do give you a SLAB to try though, its huge. more

Tempting treats! 10/21/2005

This pastry shop is located right off the highway and when you stop in for one item, you somehow manage to come out with more than one. Everything is baked fresh daily and you can smell it's freshness. You might think that the prices are high to match, but they are not. They are reasonable. This is a wonderful alternative to common baked goods for special occasions, but great for a treat, too. more

Wonderful pastries, wonderful prices 9/27/2005

This is a can not miss in the pastry shop department. They bake everything they sell the same day it seems, so it is always fresh. They have a huge array of different pastries in a number of different flavors, so if you like sweets, you should find something to fit your tastes. Their poppy seed croissants are wonderful and if you microwave their chocolate croissants, they are to die for. The prices here are wonderful, too; they are not overpriced. A wonderful pastry shoppe. more

True European Pastry shop 7/29/2005

The owners moved to Arlington from Heidelberg thrity years ago and brought one of the finest traditions of Germany with them- a complete bakery, pastry shop, and confectionary. Everything is made upstairs, and the sales floor is a dizzying array of stuff that tastes so good it's hard to be restrained. The chocolates are made upstairs and while a little pricy at $25/lb (compare to Godiva at around $45/lb- not too bad) are better than any other chocolates I've ever tasted. Marzipan and other candies fill one side of the shop, with fresh doughnuts, breads, and all sorts of stuff that is just a joy to even look at. There is a good deli and if you ask to try a piece of something, they'll generally let you. This is great with the chocolates- they're real generous this way. They also make good wedding cakes, and are one of the cheapest around. Considering as they make some of the best cakes I've tasted, it's a natural place to shop. more
