Hedleys is a great place to eat, and has quickly become one of our favorite haunts. The menu changes weekly, and the specials are amazing. Anything with a demi-glaze is a sure thing. Good breakfasts too. That said, it's a very small, modern, spare environment and the food is as unstuffy as the place. The owners make incredible meats and fish, but they also cater toward vegans (I think one of the owners is a vegan). I prefer to sit outside in the small patio where I can watch the people and feel the breeze. As I said, I never order off the plastic menu (though they have good standard fare) but prefer to order off the changing paper menu. It's always done right. The owners are South African and make the most amazing desert; Malva pudding. Hot, sensual, moist; like a strange sweet combination of a rice pudding and a hot carmelly cake (it's very hard to describe, but highly addictive! haha - served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream). Yes the inside can get crowded and loud (it's really small), but for the modernist with an appreciation for good food, it's a perfectly casual place to have a really lovely meal. (ps - ask about the South African wine!).
Pros: casual, not usually busy, surprising specials, lovely meats and excellent desert, vegan friendly
Cons: small, small kitchen=slower when busy
