Heard Museum 9/8/2005

The Heard museum offers a fun place for children to learn about the different animals in Texas and have a hands on experience. It is a self guided trip around the museum which is inside and then you can go on a short walk and even enjoy a picnic lunch if you desire. I do find them a little expensive for the length of the visit but something worth while doing at least once. more

Fun Way to Learn Science 8/18/2005

Heard is a natural science museum with lots of hands on learning opportunities. Nature trails to follow through the woods are lots of fun. The museum has all types of animals to view including birds of all types as well as reptiles. The building itself is a wonderful thing to see - designed by a local architect with lots of natural light to view the exhibits. Open to the public and memberships are available as well. In the spring, Heard offers a native plant sale to members as well as the public for a way for the community to learn to use native plants in their yards. more

    The Heard Museum is designed to enhance a child's appreciation and understanding of nature, conservation and art. Established in 1967, the museum features more than a dozen permanent exhibit areas including collections of seashells, gems and minerals. There are also live animal exhibits inside and outside the museum. The 289-acre wildlife sanctuary protects more than 240 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, and close to 150 species of wildflowers and other plants.
