Harvard Cleaners

I have been using Harvard Cleaners for the better part of 20 years. They closed for a couple years about 8 years ago but when they re-opened I was waiting. They are salt of the earth people and work very hard. I have never had a problem and when I leave clothes I generally don't even ask for the receipt as I know it is all good, I pay end of month and it is nice to have the family-neighborhood feeling with these things. This is something lost in America and why I cherish this business and they will always have my business. I am sure there can be complaints at any high volume business yet I feel here is a place that I will never leave. They service their clients like family. more

Do not recommend that you go to this place. They take your clothes and inform you of the hours and then they close early, leaving you with no clothes until the next week. When you travel frequently for work, like me, this places an inordinate burden on you and just today, I was forced to get new clothes to compensate for their ignorance. Do NOT recommend!! more

Stopped coming here over a year ago due to them consistently shrinking my clothing. After a year at another place that kept cracking the buttons on my dress shirts, I came back to Harvard Cleaners. Why did I come back, especially after my initial time with them? I guess I am for second chances. I really give most places the benefit of the doubt, before giving them a negative review. Also, the place is only a block away, so I kind of had to give it another shot, just for convenience-sake. MASSIVE MISTAKE! One of the first shirts I brought was brand new and had not been worn (I like to get one cleaning before wearing any new shirts). It came back with an pen ink mark down the collar. They gave me a hard time at first, but agreed to clean it again for no extra charge. It came back normal the second time, so I let it be. This occurred several months ago. However, I recently brought two shirts for cleaning, and they both came back with what looked like rust stains on them. The woman who owns the place with her husband berated and told me that they would not clean my clothes again and to take the $4 ($2/shirt) and leave. I refused to take the money, and told them I had not intended to return anyhow. I immediately went to another dry cleaner who said that they would not be able to clean the shirts, because THEY WERE BEYOND REPAIR! The new dry cleaner even pointed out that it could not have been sweat stains because they were on the outside of the wrist cuffs, but not the inside. DO NOT GO TO HARVARD CLEANERS!!! I was warned by a friend never to go to Harvard Cleaners due to their unreliable and unfriendly service and overpriced rates, but I thought how bad can it be?? MY MISTAKE! Initially, I was quoted one price and later charged another to hem two pairs of pants... a mix up, no biggie, it happens. Luckily, when I went in to pick up the pants, I requested to try them on (something that my usual tailor always suggests to be sure everything fits well). I was quite surprised to find that the original hem was unevenly sewn on the pair of jeans, and the left leg was significantly longer than the right on the pair of dress pants. I could live with the uneven hem... I mean who looks that closely at the bottom of your jeans, but I could not wear the other pants as they were. There was a very noticeable discrepancy in the lengths of the pant legs! When I pointed this out to the woman in the store, she was short and snappy. She acted as though I was inconveniencing her! I asked if there would be any compensation since the pants would have to stay longer and I would have to make an extra trip. The woman was incredibly rude and said no. Then I politely told her that I would never do business with her again. She said ""good""! Finally, I had to insist that they return the cash I had already paid until I came back to pick them up the second time... the last thing that I wanted was to have them try to make me pay twice. Overall, I would say that Harvard Cleaners has the WORST SERVICE that I have ever experienced anywhere. It was so bad that I actually took the time to write this review in hopes of sparing anyone else from having to deal with this poorly run business and their very poor work. Pros: It is in the Bala Cynwyd shopping plaza. However, it could be in my backyard, and I would never go back! Cons: The people are rude. Their work is terrible. The prices are high. more
