I remember staying with aunts and uncles, grandparents, in-laws, and assorted other relatives during my youth when traveling out of town with my parents. It was always a great time to socialize and catch up on the things going on in each others lives and discuss the events of the day. The hosting relatives would always cook a great breakfast, even made-to-order eggs at times. So in essence the bed-n-breakfast concept is an extension of something from my past, or at least I could hope it would be.\r

The proprietor of Harrison House Bed and Breakfast, Lynn Varney, is an example of everything that can be right with a B-n-B. I was made to feel welcomed, given the tour of the home and the various unexpected amenities of staying at Harrison House. There's a separate refrigerator in the kitchen for guests to keep their own chilled snacks or specialty items. It is stocked with 2-3 different types of white wine (Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, and Proseco during my visit), Pellegrino water, and a large bowl of fruit for the guests to enjoy. Red wine (3 styles to choose from) is kept to the left of the refrigerator along with a huge assortment of teas (more than 15 different types) and coffee.\r

All of the inclusives in your stay are nice. The rooms are well-appointed and immaculately clean. The circa 1890 structure is architecturally beautiful and maintained in perfect condition. The main differentiating point about Harrison House is Lynn. She is a witty, intelligent, and interesting conversationalist capable of discussing a broad range of topics and displays genuine interest in the people central to her guest’s life.\r

A bed and breakfast is much like a house in that it is nothing more than the lumber that frames, the shingles that roof, and the glass that provides view. Lynn Varney makes Harrison House bed and breakfast a ""home"" and truly places the motto ""come as a guest, leave as a friend"" into living practice.\r

Thank you for an excellent stay. It is my hope that I may return with my sweetheart Lorie in the future and can assure you that we will not consider any other place to stay in Columbus, because staying at Harrison House is like staying with relatives you enjoy being around.\r
