Editorial review from Citysearch 2/15/2014

Go there at your own financial risk. This hospital put over $6,000.00 to a collection agency for bills from someone that is NOT me and that I'm not responsible for. They acknowledge their mistake, but refuse to take it off my credit report. The person who's bills they have put into collections in my name, don't even have the same name as me. I've been trying for over two years to have them fix their mistake. They simply lie to me and tell me they will do it, then do nothing. They have single handedly destroyed my good name and good credit. Thank's St. Vincent Hospital for ruining my life. more

Visit at your own risk 7/15/2010

The staff for the most part are technically skilled and know what they are doing. However, I witnessed things that while true, would probably get me into alot of hot water if I exposed any of it. If you don't care about using your money to support a hospital that cares about ethics, this is the hospital for you. Otherwise, save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere. Pros: Some technically skilled staff Cons: Lack of professional ethics in the building more

WRONG PHONE NUMBER... AGAIN 3/23/2010

GREAT! I NEED THE NUMBER TO THE HOSPITAL, MAKE THE MISTAKE OF TRUSTING CITYSEARCH, AND END UP USING WHITEPAGES.\r \r CITYSEARCH SUCKS! Pros: CITYSEARCH SOMETIMES GETS IT RIGHT Cons: CITYSEARCH MOST TIMES GETS IT WRONG more

Saved My Mother's Life 12/29/2009

The Hospitalists that work at St. Vincent's are outstanding, they are medical doctors that see patients all day long. One, named Dr. Shah saved my mother's live 10 months ago when she was on morphine and he switched her to a non-narcotic pain killer, my mother is 96! Thank you St. Vincent's for the wonderful care that you provide. All the staff take the time to talk to patients and family. Like my mother says ""they are so informal, not like the doctors years ago, I get great care at St Vincent's."" Pros: Outstanding Care for 96 Year Old Mother more

Pros: Staff, from the kitchen to the nurses, especially the nurses Cons: The need to be there more

Great hospital! 4/14/2009

Had a very painful testicular problem and I was treated like family. Really a good experience. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Not that bad 3/17/2009

I went into the ER for pneumonia-like symptoms, and for the most part it went okay. I only waited around 15-20 mins to see a nurse, fill out all my information, and the only reason I had to wait another 2 hours once they got me a room was because my Nurse Practitioner had to sew up someone's fingers. Bottom line: they do a good job of allocating priorities. I went ahead of quite a few people, but I had signs of pneumonia, and was very contagious. By the same token, I saw a woman with bp problems go ahead of me. Pros: Great equipment, knowledgable staff Cons: Surly employees. more

Hung Up On 12/15/2008

I was forwarded to the emergency room line from another hospital where I was put on hold for more than thirty minutes. When they finally answered my call they picked up the phone, I said ""hello, I have an emergency"" and then they hung up. I cannot believe I was treated so badly when I had a medical emergency. If they treat all of their patients this way, you are better off finding another hospital. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING TO THIS HOSPITAL UNDER EMERGENCY CIRCUMSTANCES. Cons: They hung up on me after keeping me on hold more

MY TIME AT ST. VINCENTS 11/20/2008

The people who whine and bi*ch the most get to wait the longest. I however, got in right away and was greeted by at least 5 people who helped me to a wheelchair and took me into to get looked at. They gave me a shot for the pain, gave me some painkillers to get me by until I could see a specialist. When I left I was so happy and I waived to all the illegal migrant workers still waiting to be seen. Pros: all the attention I got Cons: Cons are people who should be locked away in prison. more

Emergency dept is a joke 8/31/2008

I am very disappointed with this hospital. Their emergency department is joke. The ""nurses"" just sit on their butts talking about personal matters instead of attending to their patients. I watched as they let a woman with the ""sniffles"" go ahead of patients that were in obvious distress- one of those patients being my wife. I was less than 10 feet from the ""sniffles"" lady- I heard her complaint (obviously *not* an emergency by any means). For your information, yes, I have insurance- (which I pay an arm and a leg for). That was not a factor. Their method of triaging patients needs some work. We will never return to this place. In her own words, my wife said she wouldn't choose to be at this hospital even if it were the only one. more

Lack of caring for the patient 1/26/2008

I was in the labor ward as an outpatient being tested for some medical emergency. I was made to wait in the labor room by a nurse names Tami while they get ready to do some tests. Since I was pregnant, I needed an extra pillow to support my back while I lay on the bed as I was suffering from severe back pain. There was only one pillow on the bed so my husband went out to ask the nurse for an extra pillow. Nurse was chatting with other people in the murses station and she told my husband she will bring the pillow. We waited for 30 mins and there was no sign of her. I used the one pillow I had to support my back and I started getting neck pain as I have spondlites. My husband went out again to remind the nurse about the pillow. She was still chatting with other nuses there and did not make any attempt to get an extra pillow. We were shocked by the treatment we got there and wondered what it would be like if we go in during actual labor. after an hour of waiting my husband asked another nurse for the pillow and we finally got it. Both my neck and back was very sore because of the uncomfortable state they made us wait there. We almost walked out of that hospital. We are very unhappy with this experience. more

a different experience 9/7/2006

I was a patient on the psychiatric ward. This hospital attracts a more upscale crowd than some of the other Portland hospitals. Visits with your psychiatrist are brief but they dress very nicely.\r Medications are available if you are feeling depressed, nervous or odd. Group movie selection on VHS was not great (""All of Me"") but the manic people laughed heartily. They could work on the food. If you behave well, you can go out without supervision for a cigarette or to admire the view on I-84. As is usual in hospitals, the slippers are not comfortable and the dressing gowns are far too revealing in the back! I would recommend that you try this place. more
