Handyman Matters Inc

We are homeowners of a six condos and Handyman Matters did a lot of work for us. I oversaw the project and felt they were very responsive and responsible. They were resourceful, able to adapt when things didn't go as planned. They got the work done in a timely fashion. They were aware of the painters schedule, and they were respectful of that and took that as an opportunity to prep their own work which was great. In general, I thought they were professional, reliable and did a very good job. more

Handyman Matters has done a few different things for me. They fixed a window that was hard to open, unclogged some piping that had debris in it, and one other thing. I have used them about 3 different times. They also helped me fix a heater that had a loose wire. Handyman Matters has done it all to my satisfaction. I think they are pretty easy to work with. more

It's hard for me to rate things high, because I like things to be perfect. I think Handyman Matters rates pretty high. Theresa was so nice and polite and was a no-nonsense kind of woman. She didn't come in here and look at me like I'm an old woman, or just pat me on the head and tell me what she was going to do. She discussed it with me and was nice and professional. So I decided to go with them. I'm glad I did. The men were very polite and I'm really happy and pleased with what they did. They came on time and worked hard. There were no problems. The workers at Handyman Matters-Oakland were very professional and extremely knowledgeable about what they do. They arrived on time and ready to work. When they were finished, they cleaned up and left things looking as if they had never even been there. I was quite satisfied with the job they performed. I located your business in the Good Service Guide. I called and spoke with Teresa regarding an appointment to get an estimate; remodel living room; new walls; install recess lights and dual pane windows. Teresa was very pleasant; she said she would send Michael; I had a great feeling about your company and was looking forward to our meeting. She scheduled the appointment for 1:00, Jan. 15, 2011; which was approximately two weeks after my call. I thought I would receive an appointment confirmation call at least one week/days before the appointment. I DID NOT hear from your company at all; the day of the appointment I called twice and left messages to find out why the contractor was late. No one called me back! Teresa called me the following Mon. Jan. 17, 2011 and left a message saying "she forgot to tell Michael about the appointment"! This was VERY poor customer service and a waste of my time; I had previously planned to go out of town for the holiday weekend. I was very upset; and had to calm down before contacting your company regarding this situation. Unhappy Potential Customer RESPONSE FROM Handyman Matters: this happened exactly as Etta explains. I typically don't schedule work or estimates on the weekends. I was hopeful that the 2 week lead time would not be a problem. I put Etta's information off to the side to "make sure" it would not be a problem and then I made it a problem by forgetting. I am sorry! more

I called Handyman Matters because I needed a handyman, and I didn't have anybody in mind or access to someone who could do little things for me in my house. I found them in a service guide, read the comments, and decided it wouldn't hurt to call them. They immediately told me that they would come out and give an assessment of what was needed. They told me what I needed to do, and asked if I would prefer to do it myself, or if I would like them to do it. I asked him to do it, and he did it in lickity split time. Everything is working fine. He also looked at one other thing for me, told me how to do that, and offered to do it for me as well. They were handy all the way around. You can't go wrong calling them. I think you will get a good deal. The gentleman who came out was professional, personable, and very knowledgeable. more

I was looking for a handyman and there were only a handful that met my criteria. I chose Handyman Matters because they did a wide variety of work as opposed to others who seemed to specialize in one thing. Also, Handyman Matters did not narrow their focus to specific cities in the Bay Area as some others did. Their ad sounded warm, homey, and appealing. I had a good experience with Handyman Matters. They were nice. Theresa, who took my information over the phone, called me back when she said she would. She was reliable and professional. The man who came out to do the work came at the time Theresa said he would be here, and that timeliness went a long way for me. The handyman was very flexible and accommodating. I had ordered a door knocker to be installed and when he held it up to the door for me to look at, I saw that it was out of proportion with the door. I went and got another one that I had purchased earlier and had him install that one instead. Also, I had lost one of the screws for the door knocker, so he went to the store to get another screw. He did the work and cleaned up everything afterward. He was cheerful and upbeat and yet professional at the same time. So was Theresa in the office. They were a good team. more

I have only had Handyman Matters out once. They could only do one thing, but it wasn't their fault. My tub was leaking, but he couldn't fix that because he was not the plumber. He told me he would get back to me, but I didn't really hear back in a timely manner. Other than that it was very good. I finally heard back from them, and they are going to come back. I also thought there was something wrong with my garbage disposal, but it was just that the switch wasn't working. He put in a new switch, and now everything is working fine. I think they are good, and I would recommend them. more

I have used Handyman Matters several times. I have found them to be really great in terms of doing work for small repairs. They do the work quickly. They estimate the time in hours, which is helpful to me for understanding what I am paying for. They put in a section of fence, and it was great quality, but it was a little expensive. Theresa is extra professional, and she also understands my concerns as a homeowner. When they are in my house when I am not there they are careful not to let my pets loose and put the key where I can find it after locking up. They are very careful with the house when I am not there. I would call her in a minute if I need work. more

After we had a new roof put up, I had Handyman Matters do a lot of work around my house. There were some screens that they removed for me, and they fixed up the window casings. They also replaced a broken window in the attic and did a little repair work. I also had Handyman Matters build a new stairway in front of the house, the old one had rotted away, with a permit of course. This project involved getting an architect. The entire process took a long time, because there were other businesses, but I was pretty patient most of the time. I like Gregory Clark, and enjoyed him coming over to the house to make plans for the project. We went and chose railings for the stairs, and picked out different colors and styles. I was pleased with all the work when it was finished. more
