NOT A GOOD PLACE 8/26/2011

We moved my grandmother in on May 28, 2009. We got a call on March 31, 2009 around 4:00 pm that she had escaped. The constable picked her up and brought her back. We were told she was about a block down the road. The EMT was called to have her checked out and she was just overheated and they gave her something to drink. The same night she was packing to go home (which is a constant thing) somehow a picture broke her nose (causing her to get 5 stitches) and she had multiple scrapes and bruises. The picture did not break. She has paper skin which it does rip easily. I also know she has been moving her dressers around and that could also cause the scrapes. Her right arm has 2 scrapes and her left arm has 4. She also had a cut on her toe. There was a bruise on her knee and even under her breast area. She was giving 2 new meds to take. One antibiotic and one pain pill for broken nose. June 2, 2009 we received a call saying she was outside on patio and she was holding a metal pole and swinging at the staff. We called her son who lives 20 min. away to get over there. By the time he arrived they convinced her to come in. Her son was told that she was saying she was having a baby and she did want anyone to touch her. She finally calmed down enough to go to bed but she was upset son was leaving her there. June 8, 2009 we called in advance to let them know we were taking her to the doctor and to have her dressed and ready. We noticed she could hardly stand up and she was limping and crying. We went to her room to get her ready to go. We noticed that her shirt was not button the right way so we went to fix it and she did not have a bra on. Her foot was extremely swollen and red. Her swelling was already going up to her ankle. We changed her and put on more comfortable shoes and left for the doctor?s. The doctor checked her over and informed us that her bandages were never changed on her right arm because the bandage was stuck to her cut and also her foot was never properly cared for. Her blood pressure was also 104/48. The doctor prescribed her a new antibiotic to help fight infection on toe. He tried to drawl her blood but she was too dehydrated to even get one drop. We feed her and brought her back. Upon arrival she starts crying because she did not want to go back. Then once in her room we found 2 of her pills under her bed. We also noted she has not drank any of her ensures which she needs. The medicine the doctor prescribed needs to be taken with excessive fluids. We are now demanding our money we have paid because of the improper care of my grandmother. For the short two weeks she has been here she has been severely neglected of medical care; for example the care of her wounds and the medicine under the bed and not enough hydration. Needless to say we moved her out and only got back partial of the money. She now lives at Colonial Oaks and is doing wonderful. more

The Hampton at Pearland 7/18/2011

My Mother has lived at The Hampton at Pearland since December of 2004. Therefore, I feel as if we have been there long enough to have a pretty good picture of the situation and they are top notch in caring for my Mother. They have a very good set up with the separate buldings and they are very good at finding the best staff possible. The present administrative staff is the best we have had since Mother has been a resident there. The Care Associates are just outstanding. I feel Mother as been very blessed to have the Care Associates that she has had. Everyone seems to want the residents made as comfortable as possible. Everyone is treated with respect and gentleness. The Activity Director has many different activities planned to meet everyone's needs and keeps them going constantly. Everyone on staff takes suggestions very well and really try to please. The Executive Director, Ben Tragethon, has been a big asset to the faciliity because he approaches everyone with compassion and wit and ""smarts"". He has put together a great staff in his time there. We all want our loved ones to be treated in a caring way at this time in their lives, and The Hampton at Pearland certainly does that. more

Someone You Can Trust 7/18/2011

I recently read the only review on the Hampton at Pearland and was not only appalled by the accusations but deeply saddened. They simply are NOT TRUE! I placed my loved one here several years back and received nothing but miracles from them. My father was difficult to handle, believe me, he lived with my husband and I prior to us placing him there. But the Hampton knew exactly what to do in order to make him thrive throughout the remaining stages of his disease. The staff are the most caring and genuine people you will come across in this business. We looked at several places before deciding on them, even did a few trial stays. The others turned out to be nothing of what they said they were. The Hampton Pearland did! It's very sad that you only see the bad reviews, and may I point out, the ONE and ONLY bad review, and never the good ones. Even though my father has passed on, we still remain good friends with The Hampton and recommend them to every one we can. The current management staff there is the best they've ever had and you will not meet any others who are as willing as them to go not only above and beyond the call of duty for their residents, but for their family members. I urge anyone who reads this to not fall prey to false bewares. Call the Hampton, talk to other family members, go see for yourself. If you do, you'll see that the residents are not only CLEAN, but active, social, and thriving. Even the residents who are in their later stages and not able to do as much as the others. Very few places that claim to be as good or better than the Hampton CAN'T stand up to their word. The Hampton does. Like my headline, they are someone you can trust. more

BEWARE! DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!! 10/7/2010

My father has Alzheimer's / Dementia and I after speaking to tons of communities, my husband and I decided to put him here. The Administrative personnel were (at the time) extremely caring, compassionate and personable. They also told me that they provided a 24/7 on call nurse and an on site medical doctor, among other things that, well, never exist. Long story short: He NEVER received his medication and/or received it on time. They DO NOT bathe them unless you request it. His sheets were NEVER changed unless I did it. His laundry was NEVER done unless he was totally out of all clothing. They NEVER cleaned his room - I did. Their so called Executive Chef, IMO, from the food that was served, was probably a fry cook at Denny's before. The person that they tell you that is a nurse handing out medication is actually a 'Med Tech'. I realized that something was terribly wrong when, right after he moved in, the same person that was doing his laundry and passing out food, was the same person giving out meds!! In other words, they basically have a Care Associate handing out the patients medication. Their so-called Medical Doctor is actually a Nurse Practitioner. They do not tell you this unless you just happen to find out. I was also told that there was going to be a new Geriatric Psychiatrist coming in every week. Ummm...haven't seen them yet. My Father got a bit aggressive one night. The on call nurse was called and while she was on her way there, the Care Associates were able to re-direct him and get him to his room where he was doing fine. The on call nurse showed up and proceeded to not let him out of his room and actually stood in his doorway. Anyone that knows anything about Alz / Dementia knows that this will NOT work, this will only make things worse. He began to get agitated and aggressive again so the nurse called the police on him. This 'on call nurse', which I just found out is merely an LVN with a Pediatrics background and has NEVER worked with the elderly. This does NOT surprise me as her actions were of someone that definitely does not know what they are doing. My Father was restrained by the police and taken to a psych ward where right after admission, he went into a coma like state - never recovered and is now in Hospice in his very last days. I truly feel in my heart, that had this situation been handled appropriately that this would have never happened. However, as a Christian, I believe that God's timing is perfect and everything happens for a reason. I wanted to share my concerns with the Director as I wanted him to know what was going on - I didn't want this to happen to anyone else. When I went to the Director, Ben Tragethon, to bring to him my concerns, all he could do was justify and get defensive and make excuses for this on call nurse. THERE WAS NO COMPASSION - NO EMPATHY AT ALL!! His last words to me were that I should feel lucky that he didn't kick my father out a long time ago. This was said to a daughter of a beautiful, precious soul that is in the last stages of death. The Administration here are snakes - wolves in sheep's clothing! They only care about your money, which averages $5500 a month or more - Medicare and Medicaid NOT accepted - private pay ONLY. The Director will be a very sweet, kind, person as long as he or his Administrative Staff are not questioned. If you act like your from 'Stepford' and just smile and take it, then everything is smooth. If you don't, then look out...you will pay in form or another. From personal experience, I now know that we are NOT the only family that has experienced these same issues. I am now aware that this happens all the time here. So please, if you care anything about your loved one - DO NOT PUT THEM HERE!!! In my Father's memory, I have vowed to work on making sure that the voices of these beautiful people that cannot speak for themselves have an advocate. I do not want anyone going through what we have been through. more
