Hallie's Flower Garden

After checking out a number of florists in Cambridge, we settled on Hallie's Flowers to do all the flowers for our daughter's wedding. From the boutonnieres to the large church arrangements, every single arrangement was different and gorgeous. We told her we wanted something "not too formal", with colors in them, and interesting local flowers. The bridesmaids got deep orange roses with a red tint, snapdragons, some sort of long purple flower, mixed with an assortment of green flowers and berries. Gorgeous. The bride got yellow calla lilies, white orchids (to match Hallie's suggestion for her hair), and even a hydrangea that exactly matched the blue sash on my daughter's dress. Hallie worked with our caterer to make sure that the table arrangements matched the different tablecloth colors in the different rooms. I cannot tell you how happy I was when I walked in to the reception area and saw those tables and those flowers. They took my breath away. She really listened to what my daughter wanted, and came through. Her suggestion for a flower for my daughter's hair that would last 14 hours was perfect. I will also add that I have been in her shop and watched them not only make a beautiful arrangement of various stems for people but gave every small child a single flower wrapped in tissue paper tied with a colored ribbon. They all walked out of the store as if they were little princesses. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and the care with which our wedding flowers were done. I will add that her flowers must be incredibly fresh. I took one of the bridesmais bouquets, dropped it in a paper bag, and literally 24 hours later, cut the ends off and those flowers all perked right back up. It is now 5 days after the wedding and those abused flowers still look great. more

I first learned about Hallie's Garden from a friend who used to take a collection of her own vases in to Hallie anytime she had a dinner party and ask her to fill them. Each was special and unique and I remember thinking it was a terrific idea and service. When it came time for my wedding in the fall of 2007, for several insane moments I thought about doing my own flowers. I scoured web sites, flower shops in NYC, bridal magazines, and wound up more confused than anything else. It was then that I decided to meet with Hallie for some ideas. I went armed with a picture of my dress, my stepdaughter's actual dress, my fiance's actual shirt and tie, a table runner and hand blown glass pedestal vase we intended to use on each table. During our meeting (conducted in her corner within Formaggio's), we talked about the overall feel of the wedding, where my fiance and I had met, and the like. Since I told her I liked too many flowers to be able to sort through what I wanted, she suggested we start playing with some mock arrangements. As we did, I realized that what I wanted were table arrangements that didn't look planned...that weren't all the same. I wanted them to look very organic, and to work together without matching. Once she got an idea of some of the things I liked, I presented her with my modest budget, and comfortably told her she could have free reign to put together what she thought made sense. I was stunned by what she was able to do for our celebration! She completely 'got' what I was looking for and delivered creative pieces that were EXACTLY what I would have chosen if I had had the knowledge and know how to figure out. Everything reflected exactly who we were, and conveyed the warmth and intimacy of our wedding. Though it all, Hallie was kind and patient and made what I thought would be a stressful exercise pure heaven. I look at my wedding pictures frequently and love the flowers Hallie created for us as much today as I did nearly 5 years ago. thanks Hallie! more

I wanted 2 big bouquets of just budding out spring branches for a memorial service for my mom. I was hoping for something that would be beautiful, but simple. Hallie understood my idea and ran with it. She brought in branches of quince, forsythia, dogwood and pussywillows and then we built the bouquets together. Collaborating with her was like working with a good friend - supportive and fun. Of course, the bouquets she creates on her own are awesome, but I highly recommend the pleasure of working with her! more

I had the honor of having Hallie as my florist for my wedding last month. I was the type of bride that had specific visions of everything and when we had met, I had provided her an image board to give her an idea of exactly what I was looking for. I now live out of town, and knowing what passes for acceptable in other shops in Boston (having worked in quite a few), I do not need a moment to consider any other options before I call Hallie. I had approached Hallie with some vague ideas for my wedding bouquet and boutonnieres. She helped me flesh out my ideas with her extensive knowledge of flower shape and color. I appreciated that she thinks outside the box, and suggested some flowers that are not commonly seen or well known. She was very easy to work with, warm and sincere. I trusted her with artistic license to pick out the flowers she thought would work and would really pop- I wanted her to pick up the colors in my husband's pretty wild shirt. Hallie's is my neighborhood florist. the service is warm, friendly, knowledgeable and the flower selection always fresh and varied. periodically she makes a centerpiece for me and on more than one occasion, i have had that centerpiece for up to three weeks and it still looked great! Earlier this month I wanted to send flowers to my best friend to celebrate an award he had received. Although I had lived in Cambridge years ago, I was not familiar with florists in his neighborhood, but called Hallie's Garden by chance. I spoke to Hallie herself, and even though I was requesting an arrangement for that afternoon, she was very gracious and assured me it would be no problem to put together an arrangement on short notice. She spent a good amount of time explaining the many interesting varieties of flowers she had in stock. When my friend received the flowers not even two hours later, he said it was the most beautiful arrangement he'd ever seen. He asked how I knew that Hallie's was his favorite florist. It was a lucky guess! I would definitely use them again. more

We got married two years ago and several friends and acquaintences recommended that we check out Hallie's Garden for our flowers. As we were planning our wedding, we realized we wanted inexpensive, but nice flowers, since the flowers were not our priority. One thing that I really wanted was a cascading bouquet that touched the ground. I didn't care what type of flowers were used and I was looking for someone who would accept this challenge. I went to meet with Hallie's Garden with great expectations after everything I had heard about them. The flowers and various foods in the store looked nice and I was hopeful. I brought some photos with me of different types of bouquets I had found on the internet and was looking for them to tell me what was possible. I did not even tell them any specific budget (or even price range) and when I told them what I was interested in, they literally laughed in my face. I was pretty offended. To me, they seemed snobby. I really did not feel that they were willing to work with me at all. I was very happy that we found Posies and Poppies, who gladly took on the challenge for a very reasonable price. more
