This place sucks!!! Don't buy the stone crabs 2/12/2011

I don't know how you can screw up stone crabs. All they have to do is take out of the refrig/freezer. They were not well cracked. The shells are very thick and they gave me a cracker used for king crab which has softer shells. I have been eating stone crabs for 20 years and these were by far the worst I have ever had. I know better than to send food back (I don't like spit in my food), but I could not get into them, they smashed them up so bad there were shells in the crab meat. The mustard sauce was honey mustard dressing. They seated a party at a table the pigeons had been on and served food without even wiping the table. I paid $41 for three smashed claws and imitation mustard sauce. There are lots better restaurants in they Keys. I have been going down there for over 20 years. Fortunately for me I had never eaten there and never will again. YUCK!!!!!!!! more

A Fun, Reasonably Priced, Key West Restaurant 7/29/2008

I make it a point to go to the Half Shell every time I go to Key West. It is always worth it. I've never been disappointed. Pros: Good Food, Reasonable Price, Fun servers if you make it that way Cons: Can be warm in the Summer more

Great Seafood in relaxed atmosphere 4/20/2008

I agree, the place is busy, but I feel the food is worth it. You have to trek across the island to get there but when you get those crab claws, oysters, shrimp & crayfish in your mouth you will probably want to come back for more the next day. Come early in the day for lunch (don't wait until noon) and there isn't as big a crowd. The atmosphere is VERY relaxed. Newsprint on the tables, back of the restaurant open to the Caribbean Sea with a warm breeze. Couldn't ask for more. more

So So 3/12/2008

We heard great things about this place so we checked it out. The place was packed and we were starved so we sat at the bar, but the were really busy also. Food was only okay, a little disappointed that we made a special effort to go there. more

great views, good food 11/22/2006

The food here is pretty good. We sat overlooking the water. The food was pretty good for lunch. Our server could have been better, but we weren't in any hurry. It's a cute ""fish house on the docks"" decore. The fish are super spoiled if that is possible. They are so fat & lazy from over feeding that if you don't feed them the best from your plate they aren't interested, pretty funny! Pros: decent food, reasonable price, on the water Cons: service is so/so more

Great raw bar, and view! 9/8/2005

I loved this place, just drive up in your jet ski and get some raw oyster's and a few cold one's, kick back and check out your surrounding's! I can't wait to go back someday! Pros: Raw bar more

Doesnt stand out 7/31/2005

Very cool looking place, and beautiful on the harbor. Great place to people watch. I went with a friend who had never had any type of seafood before, she had Conch Chowder which she said was excellent, I had fish dip which was also very good. Service was quick, but not friendly. If you're near it stop, but dont make a special trip. more

Almost Perfect 1/4/2004

The seafood here is not only super fresh but it's also well prepared. The platter with raw oysters, clams and cooked shrimp was excellent. Even if you're not a fan of seafood, you need to try Key West shrimp. They're amazing! The conch chowder wasn't as exciting. The linguine with red clam sauce was piled high with fresh tasty clams. The twin tail lobster was divine. more

Fresh Seafood at good price 1/3/2003

The seafood is there just great and fresh. I have been there three times already over the last three years, and the meal there was never disappointed. Even my picky parents liked it. Last time we went, my boy friend and I ordered a big seafood platter that included shrimps ( very big and sweet), clams, stone crab and oysters. It was so good that you just have to try to, and it is not so pricey comparing to other much more expensive places in Key West. Pros: Fresh Seafood, Good view, Reasonable price more

Oysters 12/11/2002

The Half Shell has one of the best happy hours in Key West. We got 12 oysters, squid rings, conch fritters, and a pitcher of Bud Lite for $20! The service was prompt and the atmosphere was chill- truly Key West. Pros: Good Food, Cheap Happy Hour, Waterfront Dining more

An institution 6/25/2002

Picnic tables where you eat family style, it's practically outdoors, great seafood. It's a place you must find when in town. Great servers, pleasant even after all those years, fun bar. Even the oysters don't disappoint. more
