Cafeteria Food, Amateurs Serve, View Romantic 12/26/2006

The staff is made up of 100% unexperenced (""this is my first job"") , very attractive local high school girls who are given the task by the management of explaining the weakness of the kitchen and the long waits to overpriced patrons , while the management hides away never to be seen. In fact I don't think you see a ""grown up? the whole night. The management does not hire enough of these young people, so they are always rushing off and forgetting things which prevents them having enough time to apologize at length. Since it is obviously not there fault the customer is left with no one to blame when the enormous bill arrives after many delays and mistakes. The view is majestic and the architecture warm and romantic and there is a lovely fireplace. They are serving comfort food here: tasteless, big prime ribs, mashed potatoes, mud pie - quite appropriate for an above average luncheonette or the usual wedding or bar mitzvah. But the first time you take a date here they will be wowed and if you get them drunk and talk alot, your guest may overlook the food and the less-than-amateurish service from the this-is-my-first-job overworked high schoolers. Insist on a seat near the window -- even if you have to wait -- since the window view is all that this place has to offer. Pros: View, Parking Cons: Service, Food more

Terrible 30th Birthday 9/10/2004

I went to dinner here for my 30th birthday. It took the waiter 10 minutes to even acknowledge our presence (we were seated outside). We were a party of 4 and we had to ask for utensils and water and butter! Then, I ordered a pina colada. The pina colada was wonderful, but it had no alcohol. So, I mentioned it to the waiter and he said that all their alcohol is pre-measured and they could not add any more. I'll never order a mixed drink or cocktail there again. Wine is ok, but mixed drinks are a rip off. Oh, and don't get the coconut ginger rice....it tastes nothing like coconut. The rice pilaf is delightful, however. The food is amazing. The outdoor seating has much to be desired. It's dirty and could use an upgrade....very surprising. Pros: wonderful food, nice ambience, beautiful view Cons: , bad outside service, bad outdoor seating more

Only for the view but that's it! 8/24/2004

Been here twice - one time in Aug 2001 and recently tried again (2004). We decided to give it another try despite our disappointing first time experience. We thought after 3 years, things would've approved. We were quite wrong. The food was average and service was below average. On our recent visit, both the food and service was terrible. The waiters/waitresses are all college kids and have no qualified service experience. When we stated that the steak and mashed potatoes came out cold and inedible, the waitress replied that we're not the first to complain. This is unacceptable considering the restaurant is seriously overpriced. You only pay for the view. Needs major improvement! Pros: View Cons: , Service is BAD, NEEDS IMPROVEMENT! more

ONLY FOR THE RIVER VIEW 8/22/2004

The food is awful and the service equally awful for the price that you pay. The ONLY reason to go is for the river view - the view of the Hudson and the Tappan Zee and the George Washington Bridge. I have been there several times and the service has been consistently awful. They hire inept high school students. And for the price you pay the food is always below average. BUT THEY DON'T IMPROVE THE SERVICE because people keep going back for the river views. STOP GOING and they WILL IMPROVE THE SERVICE AND THE FOOD! more

Great Spot 9/12/2003

There are few restaurants that are literally on the water like this one is. Incredible views of the Hudson. Kitchen in mediocre, at best. Service is generally good and they have extensive wine list. ""Mud Pie"" desert is a must. Overpriced, but I guess you are paying for the setting. Skip the full dinner, enjoy the raw bar and some cocktails on the deck. Pros: location, location, location Cons: Overpriced entrees, reservation a must more
