H H Seiferth Signs

I am writing this review as both a one time employee AND a customer of H. H. Seiferth. \r \r This was my first ""Design"" job after graduating from The Art Institute. The job was horrible and the office personnel were even worse. The negativity that is balled up in their Strip Disctrict shop is unmeasureable. It's been ten years or so since I worked there, but I can only imagine it is still the same. The other comments hit the nail on the head! There is no real training, no real design to the job, and the staff is so uncurtious it's almost unreal. Theresa, as the other reviewer posted, seems nice at first but is not. Don't be fooled. Just call there and ask for her. You can tell as soon as she picks up the phone it's going to be painful. Going on an install with Angelo, the owner isn't much better. Be warned young designers...this is not a job that you want! The pay is good, but it's not worth the horrible working environment.\r \r Flash ahead Ten years, and I've become a manager of a Graphics Department for a company here in Pittsburgh and I've used Seiferths on more than one occasion. Now they're horrible to work for, BUT THEY DO MAKE A GOOD PRODUCT! Everytime I've had a job it's been fantastic. The hard part is actually getting info from them, having them call you back, etc. That's like pulling teeth, I did a job with them not long ago and after three weeks waiting to hear back from them, I called, left a message with the receptionist and a week later was calling back again. \r \r If you can suffer through the pain of constant back and forth to get things done, and get by with no info being relayed, they do indeed put out a great product. You just have to take the bull by the horns to get what you want. (Probably not the best business practice.)\r \r I'm glad I got out of there when I did, (I just never went back), the horrible environment was too much...It was a start and I do appreciate them them hiring me all those years ago with no experience, and I admire their desire to put out a high-quality product, but after that last job and the constant feeling of wondering when the install would actually occur, I have to say...I'm thinking about finding a new vendor. more

i wish i could help more to but the last comment describes it all. I also was a recent employee, the way they treat people and employees was disturbing I was the 25th person in and out in a 8 month time. I wish i would hace seen this comment before i took the job. i hope other people see this review and think before they take the job. more

This post concerns the employer H.H. Seiferth Signs located in the Strip District Pittsburgh, PA. My intent is to inform any aspiring/struggling designer/artist/recent graduate about this employer that I have had the recent unforunate experience of working with. Seiferth signs is first and foremost one of the absolute worst places to begin a valuable working experience in Pittsburgh for any desperate designer. I am writing this not just for my own personal gain or because I am extremely dissatisfied with this employer even though I am. I am writing this post for any struggling designer or recent graduate who is eagerly seeking a start in their chosen career field. Seiferth Signs is certainly not the appropriate beginning. If you are ever pulled in for an interview you may disregard my warning at first because the shop manager Theresea will seem nice, friendly, and nothing but sincere. She will give you the impression that the position you are seeking is easily learned and that plenty of help/training will be provided. This is quite the contrary. She and other shop workers will slowly demean you, treat you with little to no respect, and make you feel as if you are useless. After two days upon working with them I was expected to flawlessly operate a router/CNC milling machine, a large format printer, and apply various methods of signage including vinyl and plastic counter parts. I was not only expected to perform these tasks efficiently, but also hassled constantly as if I were a common moron even though I informed her upon my hiring that I had no previous experience with the equipment or skills required. The pay they offer is fairly decent at $10 per hour plus benefits, but this serves only to lure new and burgeoning art students into their terrible working environment. If you are also considering safety around extremely dangerous equipment and materials you might want to bring your own protective measures as there are no precautions whatsoever at this facility. I do hope that this informative warning reaches as many people as possible so as to prevent any easily avoidable mistakes and wasted energy and time that could be spent maybe creating something useful for yourself or searching for reputable companies with well satisfied employees that are at least treated with respect and as humanely as possible. I certainly don't mean to anger anyone with this warning I intend for it to be purely as a helpful message from one self respecting artist to another. I hope that this has been helpful for some of you out there and good luck with the job hunt. I know that I will require some luck as I have quit my previous job which wasn't half bad in retrospective and now am forced to continue my search.
