Best

I am from Baton Rouge, so I would like to think I know a thing or two about Cajun food. Not only is Gumbo's my favorite restaurant in Denver; I would compare it to many of my favo...

Worst

I visited Denver last week. The fare here is an average representation of what good comes from Louisiana. The dirty rice was too spicy and flavorless, the etoufee was not spicy ...

The best New Orleans Style food 12/2/2005

The food here is exceptional southern style food. Big on catfish and gumbo. Yummy! And the bread with the spicy butter is to die for. I do not agree at all with the reviewer who experienced small portions. The price is more than reasonable for good seafood! Pros: Food, freshness, atmosphere Cons: limited menu, parking more

Good food, small portions, horribly overpriced! 7/29/2005

Went for lunch and had the seafood gumbo and iced tea. Paid $15 (including 15% tip). The soup was good, spicy, but good. Very small portion size. I do not consider myself a huge eater, but I ate lunch at Gumbo's, then had to find more food after I left, as the portion size was tiny. So, I paid $15 for lunch that was more like an appetizer. That is over-priced to me. Pros: location Cons: prices, portion size more

Highlight of Denver 7/8/2005

This restaurant is beautiful, with delicious food, very personal service, and a great vibe. The blackened shrimp over crawfish etouffe was heavenly. The tenderloin was fantastic. Our best meal in years. Pros: interior more

Used to be good not anymore 6/5/2005

Weak fare for a restaurant that used to be good. It makes me sad because I used to love this place but I think they were bought out. so sad. more

Authentic, and very good 5/13/2005

Being from the south I was a skeptic about Gumbo's, but after eating there 4-5 times it's never let me down. Terrific gumbo, fish entrees, bloody mary's, and perfect portions highlight the restaurant. The only real downside would be that the prices are a little steep for certain items, but the quality makes it worth every cent. Pros: Authentic, Fresh fish more

Try the dessert! 2/1/2004

I have been here a few times and I always come back for the great atmosphere and the DESSERT! The cajun style custard has got to be the best thing I have ever tasted! I don't know what they put in it to set it apart but the flavor is to die for!! more

Best dining out experience I've had in a 11/9/2003

Exceeded my expectations. Portion size was perfect. Real value for the quality of food received. Looking forward to my next visit. more

Awesome 10/18/2003

I ahve to say that my dining experience at Gumbo's has always been top notch. the service is friendly, the food tasty and the atmosphere inviting. You always see the same people working and I always feel at home. I have to say after reading plenty of reviews that I have to correct the statement about then not having jambalaya! They do ahve jambalaya at lunch. There is so much more to choose from at gumbo's other than jambalaya. Branch out!!! I highly reccomend Gumbo's. Please try it. Jeff, Colleen and Tim are my favorites, so if you go in ask for them and I guarantee you will have a wonderful dining experience!!! Pros: Service, Booming food, Value Cons: Nada more

Great date place 10/14/2003

Gumbo's is a great place for a date or a large group, which I've done both of. The food is wonderful, especially the crawfish and shrimp pasta in cream sauce. The service has always been excellent and the ambiance is unbeatable. Gumbo's doesn't ""pack 'em in"". The restaurant is dimly lit, spacious, cozy, and quiet. Gumbo's also offers a basket of bread that before the meal that comes with an addictive butter spread packed with herbs (Hope you brought breath mints). Pros: Ambiance, Great food, Service more

Classy Cajun 7/17/2003

Gumbo's is a little slice of the french quarter right here in Denver. The decor reminds me of several places I have dined in New Orleans. The service is top-notch. The crawfish gumbo is well seasoned and very flavorful. The Po-Boys are large and tasty. Many of the dishes look great but are quite rich with cream sauces and fried offerings. Nevertheless, they do bring to mind the flavors of Burbon Street. I was a little disappointed that the bar could not make me a Sazarac, they didn't know how. This place gets very crowded on weekend nights so call ahead for reservations. Pros: Authentic Cajun, Great Decor, Great Service Cons: Will Clog Arteries, No Sazaracs more

The Best ""Landlocked"" Cajun Around 3/23/2003

Being from Louisiana, I know what ""cajun"" food is supposed to taste like. After 13 years of living in the mid-west, I have finally found a restaurant that does this cuisine justice. I had to tell my waiter that this was the best ""cajun"" I'd had outside of Louisiana. He smiled and admitted that the head chef was born and raised in Baton Rouge. I was not surprised. Food this good, had to be from someone that had been trained at the source! Pros: Authentic, Large Servings, Nice Atmosphere Cons: Little Pricey more

Fantastic Value, Wonderful Restaurant 2/15/2003

Gumbo's is a wonderful addition to the several excellent LoDo restaurants. The service was spot on, and the ambience romantic and pleasing (if you prefer quiet, sit in the main dining room. The room near the bar is very hectic due to bar customers and kitchen staff). The value for the meals given is FABULOUS!! The Shrimp cocktail is enough for a meal in itself, as is the great shrimp or crawfish etoufee. Our mouths water at the prospect of eating here again!! Pros: Generous portions, Great selections, Romantic ambience Cons: No Valet Parking, Noisy Bar Area more
