Great CAJUN food! 6/17/2011

Having attended college at LSU, lived in New Orleans, and returned to the state for visits w/friends for 40 years just to eat my way through the state, I can say this food just means I can stay home in Douglasville and get most of the things I travel to Louisiana to eat. more

Best Bread Pudding Ever!!! 2/5/2010

We eat at Gumbeaux's at least once a month and have been for 3 years (actually, my husband has been going there since it first opened). Although occassionally someone in the kitchen gets overzealous with the cayene pepper :-) the food is consistently good. But what keeps us coming back is the bread pudding! I've told many a friend and acquaintance that when we finally get around to holding our wedding reception, instead of wedding cake I want several pans of Gumbeaux's bread pudding. The service is usually decent - some servers are better than others, but that's pretty typical anywhere you go. Pros: Great food, interesting decor Cons: Unless you get there before 6 pm, very long wait more

yummy! 3/3/2009

Better than Lousianna herself!!! more

Really Good 2/14/2009

Had a 62 mile drive to get to it. Was worth it. Great food. Favorites appetizers were Cajun Popcorn and Gator Combo and The Cajun Sampler. Favorites on the sampler were the Crawfish Etouffee, Shrimp Creole and Jambalaya. The portions were huge. We were full before the entrees arrived. Entrees were the Seafood Rotini and Fried Oyster platter. The oysters needed to be seasoned a little more but besides that, no issues. Place was packed. Service was excellent. Food did not take too long to arrive. Will definitely go back. more

LOVE the crab stuffed mushrooms! 4/15/2008

This place is fantastic, one of our favorite restaurants. It's not a place that I would take kids regularly, it's more of an adult restaurant at dinner time. The crab stuffed mushrooms are amazing and the portions are HUGE! more

Love It! Love It! Love It! 7/25/2007

My family recently went to Gumbeaux's Tuesday night and had the best meal. The service was great also. We do go often, however, we do not go on the weekends as much. The best time to go is through the week. If you do go on the weekends, you need to be prepared to wait. People drive from all over just to eat at Gumbeaux's. The service is always great. Nancy has been there for at least 50 years--not really, but a long time and she is wonderful. This is my favorite place to eat in Douglasville. The food is wonderful. The steak is better than any steak at Outback/Texas Roadhouse/Logan's. I LOVE the seafood gumbo. It's the best!! I am waiting for the Coconut Shrimp to be added to the menu!! HURRY UP!!! more

Excellent food, great atmosphere 7/18/2007

I have been going to Gumbeaux's for many years now. Being from Louisiana, I have to say the food is right on target. The people are very friendly and ther service is wonderful. The management is great, you can really see that everyone is on top of everything. I highly recommend Gumbeaux's to anyone looking for a great down home cajun meal with excellent service. Thanks Gumbeaux's & management !!!!!! more

WELL Worth the wait and the drive! 7/15/2007

You must have been the only one NOT happy last night! The food and service my party received was absolutely TOP NOTCH! This place is authentic and well worth the drive. As with anywhere worth eating, there is an unpredictible wait. Some people can't be happy anywhere. I've been a regular for years and I love the consistent, top quality food that I always get. Pros: fresh, authentic cuisine; great service Cons: a little bit of a wait (but worth it!) more

Horribly managed 7/15/2007

Pros: cold beer Cons: very poorly managed more

Worst Service ever 2/11/2007

Staff was not friendly and Manager was very unprofessional and argumentive. Restaurant was very busy and we were told the wait was 45 minutes. That was fine. Went upstairs to the bar for a glass of wine. It took more than several minutes to get the bartenders attention and then once we called after him a few times, he could only take one drink order at a time. he served the wine then came back and served the glass of beer, then served a drink to my friend then came back and served my friend's husband. The bar is not very large and and only about 10 people were sitting at it so it should not have been a problem waiting on those patrons. He chatted with a golf buddy of his and totally ignored the customers at the bar. When we needed refills, we had to again get his attention and wait for each drink to be served separately. Service was awful!!! After 90 minutes of waiting for a table we went downstairs to ask the manager when our table would be ready. She said there were large parties ahead of us and we would be seated shortly because a smaller table just became available and they were waiting for it to be cleaned. We continued to wait in the bar and after 45 minutes we still were not called. We attempted to pay our bar bill (which required yelling for the bartender several times) and headed downstairs to wait for the table. The manager then told us the kitchen was backed up and that no one was being seated. In total, we waited 2 hours and 10 minutes and were still not seated. We were starving by that time and left to head to another restaurant. I can't say if the food tasted good but the portions I saw being served during my 2 hour wait looked scrumptous. I will never again try to dine at this restaurant on the weekend - they obviously are not set up to handle their customers properly. I think the wait and bar staff need to be trained properly and realize that they are in the restaurant business and that involves taking care of the customer. Cons: Terrible service more

Was that supposed to be cajun? 1/11/2007

OK...I believe the people who work at the restaurant are the only ones giving this place a high rating. I cannot believe people who don't work at this restaurant would actually give it a high rating....I can't believe people who have EVER tasted REAL cajun food would give this restaurant a high rating....The staff was nice enough when I went but dang, the food was NOT cajun. I don't think they could survive outside of Douglasville. No offense....to Douglasville.....but if they had to compete with some real cajun restaurants the doors would close...and not that I wish that on any business owner but come on, cajun? Why not change the menu to what it really is? pinto beans (like lovesbridge said) over rice..... Pros: nice downtown area Cons: Food isn't cajun.... more

Best food ever 9/13/2006

I love the food but some of the server are not any good. They need the old servers back. Pros: food Cons: servers more

Gumbeaux's 8/22/2006

No, I completely disagree with the previous review. This is a great restaurant. The food is very cajun and very authentic. You are completely wrong when you say get a cajun chef, when in fact the owner and the chef are actually from New Orleans. Please have your facts stright when you write a review next time. Apparently you need to brush up on your cajun food. Pros: Great servings of food although it is a little more pricey at night. Cons: Hard to park occassionally because of location. more

Not good example of REAL cajun food 7/13/2006

I went to this restaurant and ordered a sample of about five items on the menu. Having lived on the Bayou of Louisiana, I can tell you this IS NOT real cajun food. The so-called red beans and rice are nothing but pinto beans over rice and I could taste chili powder in the other dishes. This is an extremely poor example of ""authentic"" cajun cooking. I was very disappointed. I agree with Maurice (find a REAL CAJUN cook!) Pros: We were seated quickly Cons: The food was not authentic cajun cooking more

Excellent Cajun Food! 7/9/2006

I recently went to Gumbeaux's for the first time. What a restaurant find! I arrived for lunch on a Saturday, and was promptly seated. Gumbeaux's is an unpretentious, hole-in-the-wall kind of place (and these kinds of places often have THE best food!), with the requisite Louisiana-themed decor. Our waitress, Nancy, (who is also the manager) was prompt in taking our order, and well-versed about all menu items. I overheard her speaking with other customers, and she is serious about making sure customers are 100% satisfied, or she'll do whatever it takes to make it so. The menu is broad and varied, but not overwhelming to read and decide upon. I ordered Shrimp Etouffee and a cup of Chicken & Sausage Gumbo. Each was excellent; perfectly seasoned. They were NOT stingy with the plump, good-sized shrimp; and the gumbo was teeming with sausage and chicken-breast pieces. The portions are generous, and the prices most reasonable. This is authentic and quality cajun food. I understand a second Gumbeaux's, in Newnan, failed to really catch on, and it was recently closed. That's a shame. What were you folks in Newnan thinking?! I plan to return again and again for this great cajun food, even though it is quite a drive from my ""neck of the woods."" I will take friends there, and I will pass the word --you gotta try it! Hey Gumbeaux's, open a restaurant in MY area (Northlake), or at least closer in to Atlanta. Your business would be booming! And, thanks, Nancy. You were great! Pros: Quality of food. Portions. Value. Cons: I would imagine there would be a wait for the dinner crowd, because it IS so good. There's not one located closer to where I live. more

Excellent Menu 4/30/2006

Authentic cajun cooking. Just moved from New Orleans and i feel like im back home!!!! We can definetly tell fake cajun to authrntic cajun cooking and this is it!!! more

Gumbeaux's is a bad example of Lousiana cooking. 4/12/2006

Their food does not taste like authentic Louisiana cooking. It is like a tourist trap with below average food from back home picked up and moved to Douglasville. Nice try, find a real cook. What's up with your name? more

Kinda Dirty 1/19/2006

If you are looking for real Cajun food, well this is the place. If you are looking for a clean place with good service; keep driving. Pros: good food Cons: run down, poor service, looks dirty more
