BAD experience 10/7/2008

First off I would like to say finding a truly helpful employee here is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Don't expect to receive any helpful information when browsing for new instruments. You should only go if you already know a lot about the various types of brands and differences in the instruments. Everytime I go in i have to hunt down employees to make my purchases; and on the unfortunate occassions on which i had to ask a question about an item all i receive are incoherent answers or snotty attitude from the sales rep. most if not all employees here are white. Except one or two in the drum section. So my experience may differ from some of the other readers. On one occasion I went in to purchase a new drumset, I had my eye on a black on black pearl 5 pc forum set. It was nice. The sales rep refused to make eye contact with me when I was checking out the set so I approached him, and he acted like he couldnt hear me and went on instead to assist a white man with his son. ( i am hispanic) I said ""Hey, whatsup I was talking to you"" he blatanly ignored me. So i said screw this place im taking my money somewhere else. I was so p-o'd I didn't even want to talk to the manager. I had $1000 cash in my pocket but the rep looked at me then at the white family and decided thats where the $ money was. Or maybe he just did'nt want to help a mexican. Who knows? all I know is I got a way better deal by just buying it online. Now I only go if I have to pick something up asap, but it's like get in and get out, as quick as possible. Pros: great selection of equipment, pretty good prices Cons: customer service, lack of knowledge on items more

My fav location 7/27/2008

This is my favorite Guitar Center location, not because it's big which I really wish it was but because the staff is knowledgeable and leaves you alone and don't hassle you all the time to buy something like in the other L.A county locations. Which gives me enough time to test the equipment I want to buy till satisfaction and more than often I end up buying it. Pretty much all the salespeople I spoke to were musician themselves so it helps a lot. You'd be surprised but there are a lot of locations who hire people who know nothing about what they are talking about. Pros: Great staff, if one doesn't know he/she will get someone who knows so they don't let you down. Cons: could be bigger more

Guitar Center - Pasadena 9/7/2005

Yes it's a Guitar Center so their product and inventory is great. But I think it's common with GC's that customer service is pretty poor. They are not very helpful but since they have great stuff it seems they can get away with it. more

Guitar Center 6/24/2005

This is a relatively new store in this area. It's nice to have one closer to home. I like to come and browse every so often. The staff is always courteous and let you play around on their equipment. It's about as good as guitar center gets. more

One stop, Rock shop... 3/23/2005

I love coming to this place. As a budding CCM - Electronica musician, this place has been my home away from home for getting all the sweet gear that I need. They've got most of the lastest brands of your main rock gear at average prices. Here's a tip, bring your own set of earbud headphones and you can jack into the demostration gear and drown out the noise. My wife and I did this and it was the coolest experience. We used a splitter so we both could hear could all the subtle qualities in the keyborad tones. The staff is always amiable and new staff has been added to insure a knowledgeable answers to your questions. Pros: Cool gear..., Cool tunes..., Coolness Cons: Noisy..., A wait for help... more

Editorial review from Insider Pages 9/19/2004

Guitar Center is a big store for musical instruments, and is part of a chain that has a good repuation. Beginners and experts alike shop there for guitars, basses, and drums. I bought my acoustic guitar (a Martin Dreadnought) there and had a positive experience. The prices are pretty good, and you have the freedom to look around and play the instruments without being hassled by someone eager to make a sale. If you're into music or know someone who is, you should check out Guitar Center. more
