This is a good stop, a bit crafty but hey its friendly and nice. Thats better then what I seemed to experience in New Braunfels on my day trip in almost every other shop! Pros: Nice Items more

Great Wine Room 8/20/2009

I live in the area and needed a place to take my clients for a meeting. The wine room fits around 20 people and is really beautiful. The managers were really nice and helped me out a lot when it came to preparing for the meeting. They have a projection screen that you can rent instead of me having to bring my own. The food is always good here and I could choose a menu for the meeting. I got a choice of three dishes and it comes with a salad and dessert. I'm thinking about booking a Christmas party for my company.\r \r My favorite foods: Shrimp Wontons, Pork Quesidillas, Balsamic Ribeye, Chicken Guadalupe, Salmon Picatta, Shrimp Brouchette Salad, Jalapeno Crawfish Chowder Pros: Perfect for parties Cons: Room charge more

Good ""Date Night"" restaurant 2/19/2009

One Friday evening recently, my husband and I were going to a show at Gruene Hall and decided to have dinner nearby beforehand. We were resigned to the idea that our only choice within walking distance was the Gristmill Restaurant (usually have to wait to be seated & the food is okay). As we were walking through Gruene we saw the sign for Gruene River Grill. I had seen several favorable reviews so we thought we'd try it. We were very pleased with the fine food, excellent service (attentive & prompt) & atmosphere. The tortilla soup was spicy & yummy (we were sorry we had only ordered a cup). Our main courses were very good as well...he had the Smoked Pork Tenderloin (very tender and juicy) and I had the Lemon Chicken (just the right portion and very flavorful); the side vegetables were not cooked to mush but al dente. We were also impressed with the presentation of entrees ordered by another table that we decided we are going to go back to order the Shrimp Brochettes ourselves. I don't think we'll be disappointed. This is a really good ""date night"" restaurant with good food & service! Pros: Excellent food & service Cons: Kinda of a hike from San Antonio more

Better food than Gristmill 11/17/2008

My husband and I ate dinner here while visiting for a weekend, and decided to try both the Gristmill and Gruene River Grill while there to settle the Citysearch debate for ourselves. While the Gristmill had a great view and good service, the food was not spectacular. We thought the Gruene River Grill had better food, equally good service, and good ambience (although not overlooking the river). We sat at a table near enough to the fireplace to be warm, but not too hot. The food is slightly more upscale than the Gristmill, and better prepared. Pros: Food, location, service Cons: No honey mustard. :) more

Great menu selections. Delicious pasta and salads! 9/21/2008

My favorite place to eat pasta for miles! My favorite is a spicy pasta dish and their salads are soooo fresh!\r Nice relaxed atmosphere. Pros: menu variety more

Excellent food and service - IMHO better than Grist Mill 9/21/2008

Better food selection and quality of food than the Grist Mill, up the street.\r The service was also very very good.\r We have tried chicken, beef, soups, salads, fish and every time, the food has been excellent.\r Very fresh!!!\r I highly recommend people skip the Grist Mill and go to Gruene River Grill. Pros: Food selection, taste and service Cons: None that I can think of! more

Always top notch 8/27/2007

We have been here several times and the food is great. Certainly not your typical menu choices. The Basalmic ribeye was delicious and the Chicken Guadalupe is one of the better chicken dishes I have had in a long time. Wine list is pretty decent. Great location and scenery. more

Unique experience 3/2/2007

This building and premises are really cool. The restaurant has been totally re vamped from an old barn. it 's really cool. The food is good too. I would only say the pulled pork tacos are pretty heavy and really rich with the sauce. Or over powering. The first one was amazing and not that far into the second one it was too much. But i will return and try something else. My dad had the salmon picatta and it was DELICIOUS.. Pros: Great atmosphere, good food, friendly staff Cons: sauce on the pulled pork tacos was overwhelming more

Best New Braunfels has to offer 1/4/2007

This place far surpasses any eatery in the New Braunfels area. Nowhere else can you find such a wide variety of food options, ambiance, first class service, and high quality food. The food is typically described as american, but I find it to be more fusion; they have menu choices in all categories: asian-fusion (wontons), italian (shrimp carbonara, fettuccini alfredo), southwestern (SW shromp pasta, chicken guadalupe), and of cource, american (meatloaf, pork chops, steaks, seafood). Almost more enticing than the food is the atmoshpere. One dining area overlooks the Guadalupe River, while the other is anchored by 30ft ceilings and a rustic stone fireplace. I don't think it's hard to find. The parking lot and sign is directly on the main road (Gruene Rd), but the restaraunt is located behind another building so you have the best view of the river and sunset.\r \r My favorites: Shrimp Won Tons, Balsamic Ribeye, Sirloin Peppercorn, Chicken Guadalupe, Mediterranian Mahi, Homemade Creme Brulee, and the Chocolate Martini or Mexican Martini to drink (they have a full bar). Pros: Huge portions, ambience, sunset view, high quality food/ingredients, great for dates Cons: Can be a long wait on Friday, Saturday nights more

Nice atmosphere, and good food. 9/30/2006

We have been to both the Gruene River Grill and the Gristmill several times. The food is way better at the Gruene River Grill. Very rustic atmosphere, like eating in a lodge. I love to sit by the windows with the great view of the river. Very cozy. Pros: Food is great, atmosphere is nice too. more

glad they are in gruene 2/10/2005

it is about time a new restaurant is up and running in gruene. Pros: price, friendly service, casual yet formal Cons: hard to find more

Great place 2/8/2005

This is a great place for casual or not so casual dining. I have been back several times. I particularly like the Shrimp Won Tons and the Balsamic Ribeye. The have great desserts, especially the Creme Brulee or the Bread Pudding. They have a good bar and wine list. I look forward to warmer weather since they have outside dining overlooking the Guadalupe River. They are located behind the Gruene Mansion Inn, next to the Art and Music Museum. It was a little hard to find but worth the search. Pros: good value, great ambiance, good service Cons: little hard to find more
